Seriously. I used to be under 20% by the end of an 8-hour shift at work using my 7+. With the XR, I’ll be around 70%.
It's similar to the plus, indeed. A user shared 4.5 hours on 73 with Low power mode. That's maybe 30 minutes higher than my 7+ on iOS 10. Is it better? Perhaps, yes, but not twice or thrice better if comparing apples to apples (both phones on original versions. The most unfair comparison is the one that has been done: an older phone's battery life being crippled by iOS updates being compared directly to a newer phone on its original version). With iOS 10 the 7+ would have been 60%+ too.

Edit: I don't use my phone for music: I found a screenshot of my 7+ on iOS 10 with 70% left on low power mode, with 4 hours 50 minutes of on-screen usage.
I no longer use it. A family member has it (returned to my 6s due to the camera being broken and being unable to fix it... Long story) but it is still on iOS 10, and with the same amazing battery life. There wasn't much progress on battery life on iPhones since the 6. (The 6 was much better than the 5s on heavier usage, the 6+ was incredible; the 6s improved that a little further), but the main breakthrough came with the plus, and that has been quite stable (10-12 hours of usage) ever since (if not updated).I had a 7+ last year. The battery life was incredible on iOS 10. Easily 10 hours of on screen usage. iOS 11 made it drop to 8 hours. I always restore and set up as new, so it wasn't a weird software bug. It's sad how they intentionally lowered the battery life.
If updated, as you say... Then it severely decreases. Not only the plus: the 7 dropped from 8-9 on iOS 10 to 4-5 on iOS 12, likewise with the 6s (my 6s is on iOS 9 and gets 8-9 hours).I had a 7+ last year. The battery life was incredible on iOS 10. iPhone XR battery life is just amazing even coming from a plus size iPhone. Noticeably better battery life. Even with real heavy usage, I don’t have to worry about topping up my phone throughout the day.
It’s the best thing about XR still imo even though it has a couple nice things going for it, but great battery life is a very big deal on a mobile
100%. I’m in sales and my phone is the company’s phone, technically. However, I almost would rather have the Xr with what i have experienced with it now, than a Xs model. I think I prefer the X or Xs size the best (coming from a 6s with apple battery case) more than the Xr but the battery is my favorite feature I can’t live without.
My 6s with battery case only got me thru 5pm ish. When I go to bed at night around 11pm i usually have 15-20% left on my Xr.
I decided to try to see if I could completely drain the iPhone XR in a day. So I took it off the charger when I woke up about 9.40 a.m. and proceeded to use the iPhone as much as I can throughout the day.
In the end I gave up because I was way too sleepy, it was already 1 a.m. which was way past my usual bed time.
10.5 hrs of screen on time, this is with gaming and reading Manga and watching youtube videos, was not able to even hit the low battery warning. 27% left.
The battery life is absolutely amazing.

My iPhone 8 can still achieve a full day of usage on one charge. So it’s not terrible. Granted, I’ve never had an xr or xs so I guess I’d never really knowiPhones 6, 7 and 8 have a 326 ppi display and the battery life on those is complete trash.
I don't think you can compare Android battery capacity vs. battery life to that of iPhones...
Sweet mother of pearl! How is this even possible???? Were you on wifi the whole time? Brightness level? Cellular data off?
No man, just every day use. Wifi on, LTE is on. Brightness level is determined by auto brightness, with true tone on.
Really insane battery life.
