It’s a sweet phone, I’ll buy one soon to replace my 6s.

But at the moment I’m more interested in how it’s sales will be presented on the next Apple event. It’s obviously going to be the “fastest selling “something” ever”.
Just wondering since they have three new phones that all need to be “best ever”.

Guess we’ll know by the end of next week.

I'm liking the phone I have.
The only thing that would make me switch to Apple is eSIM and that won't be supported until early next year.

Yeah, the warehouses must have been stuffed to the rafters. Good thing they gave themselves an extra 5 weeks of production to try to build sufficient inventory and keep from selling out.

They almost managed to pull it off, but again demand outstrips supply. Happens every year. No matter how many they make, it’s never enough lol.

Has nothing to do with it. It's not a coincidence every model was suddenly unavailable for shipment on the 26th, all at the same time. It's not because they sold out, it's because today was the cutoff for them to ship phones and guarantee they'll arrive on time. The '1 week' estimate now reflects the *next* batch they'll ship.

That took long enough. It’s well over 3 days since the pre-orders started.

And so it should.
Would you rather not have them for the launch day delivery on the first few mins of the preorder?
At the moment it means nothing. Neither low demand nor sufficient stock (though I am inclined to believe the second, they had plenty of time for this one)

There are no batches, it’s a continuous production schedule. The rest of your post doesn’t make any sense either, orders put in today could arrive on Monday the 29th, they don’t have to arrive by launch day. And there is no 1 week estimate, it’s 2 weeks.

Funny how the trolls are always the first to respond to MacRumors threads - I suppose they are the type of people with a lot of time on their hands.

This just means Apple caught on that people were using the web site to gauge availability and thus demand so they yanked it. Maybe this will work out for them and drive foot traffic into Apple stores.

So what? You've no idea whether that's due to having sufficient stock to fill the orders, or a lack of demand. Appears you've gone for the latter, without any evidence to disprove the former.
Appears you've assumed it can only be one or the other, without any evidence to disprove that it's both. ;)

Happy to see no-gap 64/128/258GB range with reasonable price increases. That's a first (in many many many years).

NOT surprising at ALL ... Sept 12th, or thereabouts, is a known AAPL launch date, with pre-ordering soon to follow ... who the hell is gonna remember that Oct 19th is the pre-order date for the XR ???

NOT many ! ... but the flood gates will soon open, if they haven't already.

My 128 GB in Red arrives on Friday :)

AAPL where is that clear case ???

I just checked and all models are still available for inshore pickup on Friday in Australia. I'd say here you don't need to order, just turn up.

The customer Apple has aimed at here is the corporates who buy big numbers of phones in bulk for staff. They don't need their iphones to have the latest camera, premium materials or the high spec screen - they just want them to work with their systems and have reliable software, plus support if needed. This phone has been designed for that customer base - Apple invests a lot in the corporate market including specialised staff to support those relationships. This pre-ordering business is not important, the real story will be how these sell in the next 12 to 18 months. Watch the older phones sales too - companies are still buying those in big numbers as they are a good option when thinking about the bottom line.

Means we have to wait a while before the unlocked ones show up. :(

If you pay full price you get an unlocked phone with the carrier's SIM in it. I checked this a couple of times just to be sure, and it says it right there on the order page. Strange but true.

Apple cannot win. If they do not sell out nobody is interested and the product is a flop, if they do sell out they have not created enough stock on purpose to create hype.

or it could just be that after 11 years of making iPhones they have got the logistics finally right and know the quantity to make to meet expected demand. The first earnings call for next year should be interesting to see numbers on.....

Massive supply most likely.

I think so. They had more than a month to make enough phones for launch day.
The difference between Xr and X last year is the variety of colors available, just like Apple Watch many SKU may lead to certain models be hard to get on launch day. They're just in time for the holidays though, in a few weeks it will be easy to get an Xr

I'm not trying to be conspiratorial, but up to last night everything was available for pre-order for the 26th in the China store. Today they all give a 1-2 week timeframe.

Perhaps they're just prepping global couriers and distribution for the Friday influx and tagging a 1-2 week delivery for everything going forward. Maybe it's just a nice marketing coincidence?

I think it was the case that Apple over provision for China, basically in such large supply quantities that no one will profits from reselling. I am not aware of any other iPhone that had over 50 countries at launch. So it is highly likely Apple made lots of Xr, and depending on each countries demand they will tweak its supply and delivery. Apple could also ship the slightly excess capacity to Third party retailers, which traditionally have very limited supply during launch date.

I am also suspicious that Apple are pushing more Xr through Carrier model, where Apple is giving bigger discount to Carriers on Xr. Although I don't think the Subscription + Phone model still isn't very mainstream in China.

It sold out in China very quickly though. So I don’t think they over estimated initial demand in China.

They are all sold out in the Uk. I guess we are a nation of cheap skates then lol

Do not confuse unavailable with sold out.

Yesterday there were still 128 and 256 available in almost every colour, and there were also some 64's left too. They have obviously shifted the delivery window now due to logistics. They can't guarantee they can deliver orders placed now in the original time frame. Apple is all about under promise and over deliver. Apple always deliver orders before the quoted date in my experience and I'm guessing orders placed now would possibly still arrive on Friday.

Really? Because I waited and pre-ordered. The XR is 90 percent of the iPhone XS for 25 percent cheaper. But I will agree that it will destroy the XS in sales. The vast majority of consumers will say “oh it does virtually everything the XS does with longer batter life , larger screen and much cheaper? SOLD” . The XS only exists to sell loads of the XR. The XS is for padding their pockets, the XR is what you’re gonna see most people with in 2019.

I think this is pretty accurate. I love high end phones however by the time I've put it in a wallet case, I really don't think I will notice the difference. I think I'm also ready for a bigger phone but not an XS bigger phone.
