iPhone XS and XS Max Owners Complain of Wi-Fi and LTE Connectivity Issues

Early adopters complain of bugs in newly released products? Color me shocked.

But, when people say that they are a beta testers after parting a fortune, they get offended !

They even sell this as part of premium user experience!!

XS Max, also experiencing the weak LTE signal, seeing it drop completely while commuting, switching between towers? And sometimes even switch to 3G.
Noticed the weak WiFi and getting stuck on 2.4 GHz band even when close to the AP, on Saturday and thought it was odd.

Believe the weak signal is also contributing to excess battery drain. Turned off background app refresh and all the tricks, losing 5% every hour, when with little to no screen time. On the X if I didn't pickup the phone for an hour it would have lost 1% or less.

Coming from the X where I did not experience any of this. Hopefully can be resolved via update.

Getting rapid battery drain here too when LTE/WiFi seems to be fishing for solid signal. I’ve never seen the signal meters behave so erratically (quickly going up and down) on any iPhone, and I’ve owned them all.

Yes, the trailblazer premium experience, brought to you by Apple like nobody else can, except Range Rover and Jaguar :)
When I was picking up my series 4 yesterday I was asked if I wanted to upgrade my 8+, I declined not needing the trailblazer experience at this time.

Yet you’re “trailblazing” the series 4.....pot meet kettle.

Pretty Interesting Poll! Confirms what I've been saying!

Does your iPhone XS/XS Max have worse cell signal than your prior phone on the same carrier?

  1. Yes the signal is worse

No the signal is the same or better

Yep I answered the pol and am one of the current 56 percent. With AT&T on a Xs. Getting same to a bit better than my X of past year. My WIFI definitely improved and unlike my 7Plus two years ago and X past year my Xs is holding well on the 5ghz band of my Apple AirPort Extreme. When I am out on cell I am seeing same bars as I have seen with several generations of iPhones including x (low 1-2 bars at house, 4-5 bars in a number of areas of town near interstates, business mall areas and such with close towers.. My 5 day initial experience is that I am getting better results even if the bars of strength are not changed much.

UPDATE: I am starting to have problems with my
WIFI failing both 2.4 and 5 ghz when i am out side still works in house and bars look same but fluctuate a lot so outside WIFI is worse.
Since I also have only 1 sometimes two cell bars those seem to be worse today but not earlier this weekend so I guess I am joining the 40% with issues interesting changes hmm. In strong cell areas 3-4 i am still getting better results

Mine is just fine.
Also, after a day of poor battery performance it's working well - I suspect this is all the post installation cleanup/caches/synced data/photos/etc. being tidied. Same for the Watch Series 4. Day one battery was terrible. Now it's great.

Just put the AT&T sim card from my 8 Plus in the Max for the first time, was prompted immediately for a carrier update. Did a speedtest from my basement where the LTE signal is fairly weak. Was shocked to see it drop to 4G, with 5.5/.7, compared to the 8 Plus 47/5.

Reset network settings then a reboot, LTE popped up then got a more respectable 28.8/5.8. Tomorrow is the true test when I subject it to the real world.

I hear somebody say, the issue cause by software modern, when the iPhone lost respond, then the connection will lost too. So you have to switch to airplane then turn off, the signal comes back. But previous iPhone is hardware modern, if the iPhone has issue, the phone still connects to WIFI or cellular network.

AT&T 512 Xs Max

Here are WiFi results and they have been this way since launch day. No issues.

The issue doesn't seem to be related to maximum throughput, its more about coverage/range. On my UniFi-controller the reported signal strength on my iPhone Xs Max when in the bedroom is reported as being noticeably lower compared to my iPhone X.

When located closer to the access point it doesn't have any noticeable issues. It connects to the 5.0GHz network and gets expected 802.11ac throughput. But the connection/signal drops off way earlier and it starts to struggle with the connection in areas where other devices don't seem to have similar issues at all.

Take my Apple TV 4K / 5.Gen also located in the living room, connected to the same access point is having significant better signal strength and is getting much better throughput as a result.

Seems like its much of the same on 4G/LTE as well. Throughput is great, but the signal strength in more challenging locations seems to be quite a bit worse compared to the iPhone X so it will drop the connection in areas and situations where the iPhone X simply didn't. During my daily commute on the train through tunnels where the iPhone X rarely dropped connection my iPhone Xs Max seems to drop consistently.

As the issues seems to be with both WiFi and cellular, which are two different chips from different suppliers (Intel for cellular and Murata in collaboration Apple for WiFi) it seems like it has more to do with the new antenna design and/or gain and not the chipsets themselves. Hopefully the antennas can be optimised and tuned through software and firmware updates-

Turn the brightness down or maybe background refresh for all but your most used apps. Maybe set some apps to turn on GPS while using instead of always. If you’ve done all of this already then maybe something is wrong or the battery life just isn’t that great.

You just bought a 1000+ dollar costing phone just to turn all features of because it otherwise won't function well? :')
