I think you and many others including myself have not seen the same issues. Many have surmised that this is likely a software problem, others think its hardware because of the FCC report. The thing is no one knows for sure, just like no one knows how many potentially have the issue.

I am not for one minute going to deny that there are some that are having issues as there is no reason for folks to come in a forum and make that up, just like there is no reason for those of us that aren't having the issue to come in and say we aren't if we really are.

I say if you are having the issue by all means contact Apple... If you aren't then enjoy your device, you happen to get a good one. No is shouldn't be hit or miss with these devices, but it's not the first time we've seen stuff like this on a new release phone. Apple will have a choice to make, which is to figure out what the heck is going on here and if necessary even do a recall on those that keep them, though I suspect if something doesn't give between now and the 14 day return window many will opt to do that and just wait to see what happens. If I were having the issue that is what I would likely do. However, there is no way in hell I am going to Android, that is just not an option.

Just for the record, I've not had the reception issue, I've not seen no service, switching between LTE and 4G or 3G. My Wifi logs in the minute I walk into my home or office and connects to the 5Ghz connection even though we run 2.4Ghz as well because we have equipment that can only connect to that. I wish that was the case for everyone.

Right. I should also clarify, I’m not saying I’m not having an issue to annoy people, or to deny that anyone else is. I’m just adding a datapoint to many. I’m sure some people are having issues and that it’s aggravating.

SMH... So sad that statement like that can even be made. What’s that say about all of us who continue to support Apple by running out and buying all their latest gadgets?

I have to agree.

I hands down wanted a bigger screen but it sucks that

1) Video seems to stutter on the bigger more beautiful screen. LOL
2) I am having reception issues all of a sudden that i am looking into a new router (Nighthawk)

This is all just me refusing to believe this **** has a flaw and having regret because i sold my X. SMH

Seeing how Apple is slow to jump on the latest cellular tech, we do not have to worry about 5G and iPhone for another 5 years.
While Apple was slow to the 4G/LTE game and was still able to grow their customers 7 years ago, I don't think they could do that in today's environment with regard to 5G. Samsung, ZTE, and Huawei would eat them alive overseas. South Korea and China especially are not playing around.

I did have No Service issue one day with my Xs on T-Mobile but that was brief and hasn’t returned. Otherwise my connection at home has never been better. No issues with WiFi either. I wonder if restoring from backup is causing some of these issues for most folks and doing a network reset would help? It’s also possible a software issue. I noticed that I had to repair my series 4 watch and my wife too with her Xs and series 3 watch. Phone would say connected but watch would show disconnected icon. Hopefully 12.1 gets released soon.

100% an issue.

I am not getting 5GHZ network in parts of my house where i had no issues with iPhone X.

Actually still have an X to compare and no issues with that phone.

******** and i hope this is some software bug.

iPhone XS Max Unlocked.
I’ve been comparing my wife’s 8 to my Xs in the house all day today. There is most definitely a performance decrease on both WiFi and LTE on the Xs. We are on AT&T but she has the unlocked model so I believe it has the Qualcomm modem. This is ridiculous really.

Video shouldn't stutter - that cpu and gpu chip does trillions of calculations per second and is way ahead of qualcomm chips! They said in the keynote!

That drastic of a difference seems like it shifted you to the 2.4Ghz band while the iPad is on the 5. What is your WiFi setup like?

It's an Airport Extreme Time Capsule. Other than that, I do not know what the setup is.

Assuming it's a software issue and not a hardware issue. We could very well have another iphone 4 fiasco.

Don't think a free bumper case would cut it.

Maybe they should give out a free retractable lte/wifi aerial? :D

My ipad mini 2 actually has excellent lte and wifi reception everywhere. Is that Qualcomm or Intel?

I wish I could laugh at all of this. But at $1200 it’s a hard pill to swallow. Especially considering this comes in a long line of Apple oopsies.

Ah all phones are getting ludicrously expensive. I'm bracing for the galaxy s10 price to finally upgrade my s7. They really should make the premium price have premium components though.

Wish apple would upgrade the ipad mini. The 2 has been perfect for my tablet needs. Never going to happen though I would guess....

Same. I got mine today (Max) and noticed how slow it was. Tested with my wife’s 8 Plus side by side. Her 8 was faster with a Speedtest on WiFi and more than ten times faster with LTE. Me, 8Mbps dl, her at 90Mbps. Talked with Verizon tech support tonight and all three people I was connected to said I was the first they’ve heard of any issues.

I have no issues with speed on my XS - seeing 80-90 Mbps down on LTE with AT&T, and wifi is easily able to keep up with my Internet speeds 100/100 Fios. Just putting this out there - plus LTE still works on my high floor office area where my 7 just couldn't get a usable signal.

All this Qualcomm business is just in your minds folks. Glad they're slowly being pushed out of their attempted monopoly.

The WiFi thing is ridiculous. My Xs keeps grabbing the 2.4 GHz band. I did what someone else recommended and blocked my MAC address from the 2.4 GHz band and now it grabs onto 5 GHz. Went from 50 Mbps to 220 Mbps.

Currently getting 4 Mbps on AT&T LTE in Seattle. I’m not happy. I don’t remember exactly, but I’m fairly certain I was almost always 20 with my iPhone 8 Plus. I guess I can return it within 2 weeks. :/
It looks like the WiFi issue can be indeed fixed with software. However, I’m not sure if the same can be done about the cellular thing.

Apple products have alway had issues when they are first released (including software). I always consider the people who buy an Apple product when it is first released as beta testers :).

Shockingly different speeds huh!? Not something Apple can just shrug off as a “network thing”. Of course they won’t have to cause the will just remain silent.

It’s not all in our minds. That’s an awfully ludicrous statement to all of us sitting here with concrete evidence that something is clearly awry.

Oh yes, it’s a hardware problem. That’s why my max works perfectly.

Those likely that are not having the problems are those in markets with saturated towers like a big city where you could be connected to one of ten towers at anytime . Rural users and those on the edge of coverage areas are not going to be able to use any of the XS phones . Just now I made an hour drive and I almost never had full signal. It seemed stuck on 1 to 2 bars the entire trip. The only way I could get 4 bars was to turn my cellular amp on and even then it struggled to give me 4 bars . Fix your crap Apple !!!

My XS Max is defaulting to and getting stuck on 2.4GHz. Had to actually MAC blacklist it on the 2.4GHz network for it to utilize 5.0GHz.

Once again your experience doesn't speak for everyone else's. Share what is going on with your phone in your situation, but quit trying to make it sound like the rest of us that have already clearly stated we've used our phone in very fringe areas without issue. This issue is not impacting every single phone. Enough already!
