If the Xs Max comes out with 64gb starting, that will be an absolute insult.

£1000-1100 phone with 64gb is unacceptable in today's markets.

They made the same mistake with the iPhone X, no surprise sales were way lower than what they expected, and no surprise they are discontinuing the X. People were forced to get the 256gb model because 64gb simply wasn't enough for power users who were spending £1000 on the base model.

Currently using 80gb out of 128gb, so I would hope for the base model to be 128gb.

So what do we think, base model iPhone Xs Max starting at 64gb or will they do the right thing and start it at 128gb?

It's better not be bloody £1059 64gb starting price.

The price will be from £1000-1150, which I have accepted and will go with it. But 64gb for that price is taking the p***.

They've done it before and it backfired so hopefully they don't do it again. But I have a feeling they might.

A premium product with a very premium price point cannot be given a mid range spec.

It will probably be 64 GB for the base model. Dropping prices and raising storage, Apple doesn't do that

They'll do it because they can. The Apple brand is more appealing than the specs.

I think they will do a 64GB model as some people simply do not want or need more and want to save money. You do not have to buy it and I am hoping for 512GB on my XS.

last year half the Internet went nuts when Apple announced a smartphone for over a grand.
Fast forward, the iPhone X is one of the best sold iPhones ever.

Apple knows EXACTLY what their customers accept, an iPhone with 64Gb storage for over a grand.
    Rinse and repeat

I don't have to buy it yes, but competitors offer better specs for similar hardware.

I don't really care about the brand, I would switch to android but their phones still have random stuttering and the experience isn't as smooth as iOS.

512gb will be too pricey for me. It's expensive hardware firstly, and Apple will add their uplift which will take the price high.

Keeping the base model at 64 gb is classic Apple pricing strategy. It’s just the way they do it. For the masses who barely know what a gb is, 64 gb is still enough for an enjoyable experience. For most people with a little tech savvy, jumping to 256 gb for $100 or $150 is such a no brainer, they won’t be able to resist. Then, there are those who just always buy the max storage (or actually really do fill their phone with tons of stuff), and they’ll opt for the 512 gb. Apple does this with all of their products, and it’s one of the reasons they make a lot of money.

Competitors do not run on iOS so that is a non-option for most looking at upgrading their iPhones.

They may not even have a 512GB option. It will not be an issue for me, either way.

As long as it’s not over £1,000, an Xs Plus (or whatever the latest name may be) with 64GB is fine for me. I don’t use cloud storage but do keep everything on my 3TB iMac, occasionally just syncing whatever I need to the phone.

    Some questions.

    1) How many iPhone X have Apple sold?
    2) How many iPhone X did Apple expect to sell?

Until you can answer both of those factually, you’re making baseless assumptions about sales.

Also, the X is likely to be discontinued because it’s being replaced by a refreshed model and, unlike other iPhones before it with the exception of the 5, also getting a more entry level, but all new, sibling. The development of both of these would have been well underway at the point the X launched. The LCD model is not a knee jerk reaction to ‘disappointing’ iPhone X sales and the rumoured cessation of the X is not a mark of failure.

But onto the storage options, it’s anybody’s guess but I think if they do introduce a 512GB, the base would increase to 128GB. I don’t see them moving back to three tiers as it leads to too much price overlap potential between the various models on sale. So it’s either same as last year, or 128/512GB. But, given that 64GB nudges users towards iCloud and, Apple being a business and all, if I had to call it I’d say the options won’t change.

I don't see why they wouldn't still do three tiers, 64/256/512. The ipad pros have this similar setup.

when i had my 64GB X i had something like 50GB free, but this time i may opt for the 256 storage option. I'm getting married next summer and i know i'll be taking a bunch of photos and 4K video. I'd rather keep it on my phone for access at all times. Also i'm not into music streaming, so i'll likely be expanding my music selection and will need some space. I really don't use many apps, so i don't need space for that. 64 GB might be enough, but if i keep the phone for more than a year it likely wont be, and when i go to sell the phone 64GB will be a really low storage option and will make it harder to sell for a good price.

Currently using the most storage I've ever used @ a little over 28GB out of 64GB, so we should demand at least 2TB of storage or we boycott. Just kidding, for me 64Gb is very acceptable, to me anyway.

Well I keep all my photos on the camera roll from snapchat and camera from my first iphone 4 to now.

Last time I used itunes to transfer photos to iphone it was a really bad process and really annoying, not a case of drag and drop like every other device out in the world.

I have a lot of group conversations and share a lot of pictures and memories from university days and it's convenient for me to have it on my camera roll at all times.

64 256 and 512 mb, is wrong, the base should be 128, it fits the pattern but that is just bad for customers like me. Paying a premium already, and having a pay a premium on top for what is standard across other devices in the industry.

That's Apple though... Think about it, if you're running a business like Apple, your goal is to make money and maximize the money you can make. If the consumers are telling you that they're willing to pay a certain price for certain upgrades, and you continue making money hand over fist, why would you cut into your own profit margin for the benefit of the consumer? It doesn't make logical or business sense.

Luckily as the consumer, you have a choice. If paying a premium price and not getting certain things you consider premium bothers you, there are other devices like you mentioned that do offer such things at that premium price. At this point, the only difference between the phones is the operating system. Essentially all of the tech and design are so similar these days there's nothing that really differentiates one flagship phone to the other.
