No rational person actually thinks the XS has a better camera than the Pixel 3. The latter blows everything away. This is reinforced by almost every tech reviewer. Didn't the verge rate the pixel 2 camera above the XS?

The S10 also beats the Xs max on DXO.

Yup, as stated in another thread, i don’t care much. But since the other poster mentioned about all these reviews....well, just in case he/she is into DxO, i posted it.

The Pixel does have a better camera than the XS Max, but it's not worth insulting someone over making that point.

The only area where P3 is clearly better is in Night Sight. But that is software, which i am sure Apple will incorporate in their next software update. I think that Apple may even do it better because of the A12 chip. I can see Night Sight version that can also freeze motion.

The rest is up to personal taste....XS has class-leading dynamic range, while P3 has lots of contrast.

But then you add in VIDEO capability, and XS destroys P3.

I’ve not seen all of these videos but in some of them I did prefer the XS max over the S10 plus and mate 20 pro. However I think I might have become accustomed to the colour temperature of iPhone pictures over the years.

In this blind comparison I picked the XS max most and then the S10 plus. The pixel was a very distant third only scoring points for selfies.

A lot of this is highly subjective but the pixel is well regarded as the best amongst most reviewers.

IMO, Apple did sell us short with the iPhone X camera. I was disappointed with it...not much (if any) than my 7+. The only improvement was the telephoto lens having OIS but otherwise, disappointing.

Apple saved the big camera jump for the XS. It is probably the biggest jump in camera quality since.....forever. Maybe the closest was with the iPhone 5 to 5s jump....but even then, the quality jump is not as much as between X and XS.

Bigger (wide angle) sensor brings it up to speed with the Note 9 and Pixel 2/3. Smart HDR just yanks it over those phones. The difference is even bigger when you factor in VIDEO CAPABILITY...extended dynamic range in video is a game-changer. And of course, ultra-wide dynamic range in pictures doesn't hurt either! :)

I'll never go back to android - it's just too messy for me but I agree there are some good phones like the Note 9 and some Huawei models.

I think that Huawei has fantastic hardware......their main camera sensor is the biggest that i know of....I think 1/1.7” size. That sensor is the size of some of the best P&S cameras!! For comparison, XS/Note 9/Pixel 2&3 main sensor is 1/2.55”. This gives Huawei a big step up in low light and details.....and zoom resolution.

The problems with Huawei camera system come down to two things:

1. Due to big a$$ sensor, there is no room for OIS on any of their lenses. So, at low light it has to use a faster shutter speed which compromises some of the advantage of having a big a$$ sensor. And of course, lack of OIS is a BIG issue in VIDEO. And this is why Huawei VIDEO is some of the worst for a flagship.

2. Software. They do some weird stuff with their pics....beauty mode all the time, super saturation one minute, bland as hell the next. Mate 20 Pro is a little better but you can see from videos above, it remains very inconsistent. You just don’t know how pictures will come out click after click.

And in photography, CONSISTENCY BETWEEN SHOTS is paramount! And this is where iPhone XS (and Pixel 3) remains class-leading.

And of course, with Smart HDR, iPhone video capability is way ahead of everyone.
