I don't see how it's on Apples side unless the downloaded file is corrupted. In that case, delete it and DL again? Or unless it's at the point of activation.

Mentioned above that it could be firewall? Hmmm, I don't know about that. If that's possible, sometime disabling a freewill doesn't unblock all ports, they may need to be added to the exception list and leave firewall on.

The iTunes installer actually installs a bunch of different programs. I've seen it skip some of these on windows, don't know why, could be a permissions thing. The fix for that is to extract the individual programs out of the package and install one at a time.

Just throwing out some ideas.

Just got back from the Apple store. As mad as I was I must say I'm impressed that they got me in without an appointment and replaced my phone. This is my third iPhone 4 so I'm hoping its the charm. And I had them update it at the store so I didn't have this problem again. She did say she wasn't surprised to hear I had a problem when I told her I was using a PC....which is total BS, but whatever. I was happy with my visit and I hope its the last

I had 4 or 5 minutes left till download was complete and to be installed when I came across this thread.

I stopped the download. If it is a server overload, then I can certainly wait. I have 5 bars of service and from what I've read there is no "need" or "new" features to have this moment. (I can deal with a sideways flash in landscape. Its on auto anyway)

I don't want my phone stuck.

Yea I would definitely wait until everything is settled. I just got mine back up and running after 3 plus hours and countless attempts. My guess is server issues as everyone seemed to be experiencing the same issues at roughly the same times.

Did 4.01 brick everyone?

i want to update but i am scared it is going to brick my iphone. it did that to my friends. idk what to do. who here had no problems?

People post if they have problems... How often do you see someone posting about how great a product something is.

And there are a ton of people who had zero issues with the upgrade. Some folks did run into issues and there are various ways to fix it. For me it was simply disabling my firewall software and the update worked flawless, some others might have to reinstall iTunes just for it to work.

i say go for it even tho i bricked..i think so many ppl tried to update when it came out but it should have calmed down since earlier

Bricked. Error 9.

Tired of this crap.

"Here is the iPhone 4...oh you're having problems? Here is some software. It's WORSE now?!"

Had tons of problems. Connected my iPhone 4 to iTunes, pressed update, it downloaded, extracted the package then in the middle of the restore I got a 1400 error and it put my iPhone in recovery mode. Thank God I backed up before I started this charade. So I went to restore both manually and automatically and my mac would still throw up that 1400 error. I wound up having to restore my phone on a PC for it to work. What a pain in the ass.

Hooked up, downloaded update, updated, now talking on phone to my daughter via Facetime. Took all of 10 minutes. No issues.

Bricked my iPhone 4 three times before it finally worked. I tried updating and I got 1002 error then tried in recovery mode which yielded another 1002 error. Then I tried DFU restore and got 1004 error. I remembered I modified my hosts file so I unmodified it and restarted the computer and DFU restored again, which finally worked. I think it was the restart that solved the issue. :D

mine updated fine, but my friends didn't... there are many solutions online, but idk none worked for him. he has a mac. should he reinstall itunes on the mac?

Remember that a handful of people who have problems doesn't mean that everyone had problems.

People have problems with every iOS update. It's just that there are more whiners now.
