I hope people who voted orange are going to suffer.

And that's the problem with people today. Why would I wish ill-will on someone just b/c of who they voted for? Americans should be rooting for America and other Americans, regardless of who is in office. Or at a minimum rooting for your friends/family, of which I'm sure at least one of them probably did vote orange based on the election percentages.

I don't root for dishonest bullies and liars, home team or otherwise. We're not the good guys here, and we aren't on the moral high ground.

And I know you are trying to be smarter, and yes you are right they have dropped $2, but what you omitted is they spiked to $5 AFTER Trump took office, and have now reset to where they were in November, when people started complaining, but they are still high.
Stop using facts! They aren't needed in Trumpland.

Not sure if it was mentioned anywhere, if so please correct me. But, shouldn't the tariffs affect the OEM costs/prices and NOT the MSRP prices? So if making an iPhone costs $200, but Apple Sells it for $800. Then the 50% or so tariff should affect the $200 price. So it's $300 now. And not the $800 price, turning it into $1200.

And I'm not defending this policy at all. But, it's even more indefensible for ANYONE to have to pay that much more for any product. It's not like we are all given a 50% raise to compensate for it. OR EVER WILL BE!!
Apparently you’re the first person in this thread to actually figure out the economics.

That analyst ought to be fired for gross incompetence.

I changed my wording a bit as I felt like my comment sounded exactly like what you thought - that America has some sort of a moral high ground, which is not what I was trying to imply.

I was just saying we shouldn't be wishing for someone to suffer just because of how they voted, which is what the comment I was replying to implied.

I wouldn't root for dishonest bullies and liars either, regardless of home team or not. But I know extremely good people who voted for Trump, and extremely good people who voted for Biden and then Harris, and I would never wish any of them to suffer. That's absurd.

My understanding, or lack of, is that tariffs are based on the value at entry, not MSRP. So maybe we’ll get a little insight into how much it costs to make an iPhone based on the adjusted price after tariffs.

I'm posting this for the forth time, since no one is paying any attention. From yesterday:

Rough math, since since the 16 Pro has a 46% profit margin, that means it costs ~$540 to Apple. China tariffs are now at 54%, so 540*1.54=831.6, and 831-540=$291

If everything is passed onto consumers, the base Pro will now be $292 higher, but lets round up for Apple's sake, and make $1300 for the base Pro model iPhone.

Maybe no facts, but it looks like lots and lots of French Fries 🍟

US has been screwed in the global trade market for decades! Also we have one of the most open economies in the world, and the lowest average tariffs rates in the world.
The US has benefited from globalisation more than any other nation making them the richest country in the world.

Let’s not forget than it is American companies who moved their manufacturing offshore to get cheaper labour because shock horror Americans like to buy cheap goods in Walmart.

If anyone “screwed” America it’s their own corporate greed.

I'm more worried about the price of cars. They are already crazy expensive. There was no way I was going to buy a new car any time soon; now I just gotta make sure I baby the cars we already have. I have an extra iPhone lying around if necessary.
The new Honda I'm about to buy made it to America last week so I got the non-tariff price locked in. Adding a few thousand to the car price will really hurt.

It's such a crazy lack of understanding in the MAGA base about what has led to what.

The same people shopping at Walmart for the cheap goods are also irate about low pay, no social support structure and the loss of jobs and destruction of their local town from "big box chains" ...

(while standing inside a Walmart)

Glad to hear you locked in the current price. We're just going to ride it out. My VW is five years old, and the wife's vehicle is seven..she sold her Tesla a couple years ago. Unless something catastrophic happens, we're not going to buy again while Trump is president.

We're fairly well off, and pay cash for our vehicles...but I'm not supporting this nonsense, and I'm not adding any unnecessary money to the tariff cash register. It's not much, but it's what we can do.

Gasoline savings? Prices up 40 cents per gallon since tariff announcement in Phoenix area. How does that help the folks that make minimum wage of $7.50 per hour?

Projections of $3,500 to over $5,000 cost to each working family to give the less than 500 billionaires several trillion dollars.

The fan blades may start darkening in Septemberwhen when we enter heating season….

I sold my Tesla last month as Elon started truly going mad. Currently carless. Looking forward to my nonTesla.

Fair point for sure. I shouldn't make statements like that based on mass reactions on macrumors.com :)

The inflation situation was a bit more of a slow burn compared to the tariff "shock", so this feels a bit more knee-jerk than inflation was - but you're right, people definitely cared.
This. The democrats used to be for working class, but they are so far left now they can’t dig themselves out and blew the election.
