Where's the $2399 iPhone I heard so much about? Oh yeah, like I predicted. Not. Gonna. Happen.

Pro tip: don't listen to fear-mongering from people who scream at the sky.
Sure. But where is then the win for Trump? No manufacturing will be shifted, no tariffs will be collected. What did he just gain? Please provide the pro tip on that.

Two weeks ago the world was worried that he might be successful in finding a loophole to get a third term. How many weeks before the republicans try to find a loophole to get rid of him? The double edged sword for Trump is that most of the Republican Party only support him because that was the opportune thing to do, not because they actually support his politics. Once it is no longer the opportune thing, the whole party will turn on a platter, and Trump is ****ed. He really is imploding his own presidency at breakneck speed right now.
Watch for Trump's approval rating to see whether Republicans continue to support him.

nothing can make you guys happy, no matter what.
Sometimes when you do something stupid enough, nothing you can do will correct the stupidity. Even if we return to the outset, and totally reverse the damage done, what remains is the stupidity of doing the damage in the first place, and all the uncertainties it brought along.

So yes, it is very easy to make us happy: Find a competent president. Even that cannot erase the damage done, but it would at least give a chance of repairing the trust that similar stupidity won’t take place in the future.

Trump I was doing weird stuff that everyone laughed about, but in the end didn’t matter much and not too much damage was done. Trump II has already proven to be capable of utterly destroying USA’s status as the world’s leading economy.

Pro tip: Look at all the other stuff that’s skyrocketing in price.

Pro tip: Look at the over 8% decline in the S&P 500 over the past 3 months. It’s a loss of $5 trillion — with a “T” — in 3 weeks.

Acting like an iPhone exception somehow invalidates all the legitimate fears is silly.

You mean the one that is already down 7.7%?
You’re quoting the Economist numbers I assume. Sadly that’s slightly misleading since it’s versus his peak, and he did get the usual inauguration bounce. He’s only down a few points from Election Day which is just bonkers. That said, it’s a clear downward trend, and public opinion tends to lag all events except those that are catastrophic.

I still don't think I will buy anything or do my annual iPhone upgrade. Our society is way too volatile right now. I am pulling out of this economy for the medium term. We don't need much except food which I've already stored up a bunch and we have a garden (and a farmer's market which is local). Then we just need to pay for our mortgage and utilities. Have turned off most of the services we subscribe to, dialed back our internet speed, adjusted our thermostat, cut back our Apple Premium Family subscription to just iCloud Storage. Our budget is in lockdown while we ride out this storm.

A general boycott on the economy would clear up this mess quickly as all the oligarchs of business in America bring Trump's house of cards crashing down. I recommend everyone else freeze their spending too, at least as much as possible. It's not going to be fun, but it is necessary to correct this madness. Together we are much stronger than we realize.

Now we understand Apple's long game.

"The iPad is a computer in the palm of your hand": tariff exempt. :)

Those noise reducing headphones: computer.
That $29 USB C cable: computer.
That Watch: computer.

It's more like if they (republican congressional members) go against trump, he'll make sure they're primaried (like Liz Cheney was) in the next midterm election.

Spot-on. That was a brilliant move by Cook.

Sadly, he’ll still get trashed, as he does everyday. :(
Brilliant, not really. He just did what Zuckerberg and others did. Cook was not the first. He simply gave the same amount as others did, after some of them did so. Again, he was not a leader.

So the bribe, I mean “donation”, that Tim Cook made to Donald Trump was money well spent after all. Now let’s see the creative accounting involved in the bonuses Apple pays out to Cook to reimburse him four that expense.

Could have built them anywhere except China and paid only 10 percent. The point is to quit feeding China. I wonder how many Americans understand what China's government is and how the people manufacturing these iPhones get treated like slaves. They have no hope, and China's cities are amazing and full of technology built off the backs of its own people so they can dominate the world. China is what America was 50 years ago; so far ahead of the rest of the world. US dollars building China's money supply, military, infrastructure, cities, roads, amazing high-speed mass transit, and Americans have nothing but their own marketing BS to blame for their addictions to buying cheap crap made from slaves in poor countries dominating where few steal all the money for the wealthiest 1 percent.

Trump's lies are going to start costing him his own supporters, too. His supporters seem to believe him, while the others hate him. Will be nice when the whole society seems him for the greed and lies. All the words are just words, until the real backend of the government changes everything - the thing is this shows the President doesn't really control anything as if he did he wouldn't cave so easily. Apple needs an exemption like the average person needs a lobotomy. If anything, I think things manufactured in Taiwan are the only parts that should be exempt from any tariffs. Oh but Americans would be ticked if Tim Crook charged them double for their iPhones. Make Apple products in the free world where the money will not get used to build a military to destroy Taiwan and anyone who gets in its way.
Corporate America have had ample time to look for alternatives countries, but couldn’t find one that can handle the capacity, technical expertise, logistics, supply chains and rare minerals to completely replace China. China has cornered the market in mass production on a grand scale, ever since it opened up itself to the world in 1978. No country can catch up to them now.

You are assuming that trump / bannon / the heritage foundation / the billionaire bros / the gop congress / and the trumpanzees haven’t figured out a way to “rig” the constitution!
That’s what I am expecting if the Dems don’t have a veto-proof majority next year. They can practically rewrite the constitution to give tRUMP the job for life.

Gawd I hope you are right ! But then what? We get Vance?

Everything is going to end up in the Supreme Court. And that’s already getting a little "iffy”.

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind.

Trump, v. the act of breaking wind audibly.
