Such a small change has to take Apple 4+ years to implement, I guess in my whole life I would never see them getting to some of the bigger changes, like Offline Map support, or SIM card support in Apple Watch.

This was already fixed from iOS1 to iOS6, then Apple changed it to opaque in iOS7 and it was imposible to see the video behind. Apple never admitted they screw that up, because it looks like fundamentalists are running the design studio now. Now it seems solved in iPad but in iPhone will be broken too. One solution is to use Instagram/Snapchat design, but again, Apple will not admit they screw that in iOS7

Can YouTube videos be played in the background with the screen OFF, like in iOS 9 and 10.0?

It broke some time around 10.2 or 10.3, and it's really ****ing annoying.

It only took 10 years for Apple to listen to users about this?

Holy... !@#

Just one more Android-like feature making its way to iOS. Notification shade, check. Customizable control widgets, check. Access to your files via an app, check. Pretty soon, I'll have zero reason to stick with Android.

I have no idea what this article is referring to. I've NEVER had any problem adjusting the volume of any video I was watching.

Now make it so that incoming phone calls don't take up the entire screen. How is this still not addressed?

That is the only feature that I envy of Android users. IT'S SO SIMPLE!! Just a notification at the top. If I'm playing a game or watching a Snapchat, I don't want my entire experience interrupted by a phonecall that I 9.9/10 don't even want to answer

I hope they also changed the big overlay in Music, e.g. when tap a song to "play next" …
- never understand why such a large portion of the screen has to be covered by such information??

Does this mean Apple is finally paying attention to the user interface and user complaints? Or has this just been in the que long enough to finally be fixed? If the former, there are plenty of other improvements they can make.

ok...... good improvement, but u know ppeople will be picky...

"oh, lets see the u change the volume...... HA! u still have iOS 10"

im sure this will be a huge talking point during the keynote...
The keynote that already happened?

Seems like the article covers and demonstrates (via images) it all fairly well.

Nice! Now all I need is a toggle in settings to allow for Portrait lock to lock everything except video! It's literally all I have on my iOS wishlist and I've been using and jailbreaking iPhones since the 3GS (I don't jailbreak anymore).

An orientation lock button like in the YouTube app, that rotates the video if you have orientation lock enabled.

Oh okay! You mean like this!!!

iPhone users can finally cross one item off their wishlists: the volume slider no longer covers videos in iOS 11.

Now, when a user adjusts the volume while watching a video, a much smaller volume HUD appears in the top-right corner of the screen.

While the change is small, the user interface tweak was highly requested by many iPhone users for several years. On iOS 10 and earlier, the volume HUD intrusively pops up in the center of the screen for a few seconds after the volume is adjusted, unnecessarily covering the video content until it disappears.

Some third-party apps such as YouTube already had their own smaller volume HUD, and now the look is universal across iOS 11, as part of Apple's broader improvements to the native video player on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Apple introduced iOS 11 at its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday. The first beta was seeded to registered developers later that day, to be followed by a public beta in late June. iOS 11 will be available as a free software update for all compatible iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models around September.

Good move, I wanted

Nice! Surprised nobody noticed until now? Don't let people fool you when they say iOS 11 doesn't change much. All of these small changes add up to a better user experience.

Now if only we could get them to implement the same double tap left/right on a video to skip back/forward 10 seconds that YouTube has. I find myself accidentally trying to do this in the native video controller all the time because it's so useful and intuitive.
Yes! It actually took YouTube forever to implement it as well, but when they finally did it was nice. When I'm watching video on a mobile device, it is highly likely I will be interrupted or distracted by something, and I ALWAYS want the ability to go back or forward 15 seconds. Same thing with audio. I want those 15 second backward/forward buttons there as well.

Have you used the Prime Video app at all? The single touch play/pause is amazing.
The truly amazing part of Amazon video is X-ray, where you can get instant data on actors, locations, etc. for every frame of a movie or TV show, with all the backend provided by IMDB. This is where Apple needs to step up their game. Playing in the services area with real innovation, buying/working with interesting companies that don't necessarily build the bottom line, but make the ecosystem even more appealing & sticky by providing features/benefits for real enthusiasts/connoisseurs, not just ho-hum mainstream stuff. Now that Apple seems to be taking "Pros" seriously again, maybe they can start developing new ways of serving music, movie and TV lovers with best in class features/benefits.
[doublepost=1497070929][/doublepost]Amazing what they can do these days.
