please post the FULL lcd panel id.. dont worry its not unique to your phone,
The serial number you posted looks wrong, you can find it on your Box from the phones menus.

full lcd number is 7459072

and serial number is def different than my last iphone. It starts with all numbers for some reason. Its def 327343P****

u have a week 34 phone with the Good Lcd panel. It seems everyone with that Panel has the best results. To my knowledge there are only two 7 series panels. The new one (7459072) which up to now noone has complained, and 7455232 which people are having mixed results. Some say its terrible, some say its good. Go figure :)

Its safe to say that 7459072 is the one to look out for. I just hope mine is that one when it arrives in the next few days.

My replacement is a week 34 with this LCD panel ID. I dont know what the ID was on the other one I had, but the negative issue was terrible (pics posted in this thread). This screen is flawless.

ugh!

I had a week 33 with the 7459072 screen, it was really nice looking. However, I broke the screen. Didnt know how good I had it! I went back to apple and bought a new one (they wouldnt replace), a week 38, screen was no good. Went back the next day, the genius exchanged (although he thought I was crazy), and got another week 38 with screen 7455232. It is no good, and not only is the black off, but the white areas are kinda yellowish. Ive got two weeks from last friday to deal with this, so my plan is to go back to the apple store and exchange sometime next week, hopefully for a week 39. At this point, Apple better figure out how to deal with this, b/c this I am upset. Right?

I just got a replacement for other issues and noticed the screen on this one is terrible. It's 7455232. Looks like a week 35 serial number. I called up Apple this time and they're gonna send me another replacement (as opposed to going to the stores which seem to be low or out on replacements now).

I returned my 2nd iphone to the apple store but this time I just asked for a refund. I didn't want to deal with the LCD problems and make a 3rd trip to the store. Maybe I'll try to get one 3 monts from now. Hopefully all the bugs will be worked out. But if you get a new production week and the phones are fine please do let us all know.

My new unit is a week 37 unit with the 7459072 panel.... I don't seem to have a problem anymore? is this the keeper panel?

YESSSIIIRR that is the magic panel. I have had no issues with mine. I personally think this is better than the 5 series panel. it is WAAAY more vivid, and the whites just POP, and so do the BLACKS> it is awesome. Absolutely awesome. Before i hated this phone, the screen was shi*t. Now it is flawless.

got my 37 week phone... in the uk.. its a 7455232 panel tho. It still needs activating (im still at work, i'll do that when i get home). I can see the small white dots when the phone starts up and when im preparing to shut down. I need to test it with the pics of JZ and such. No much i can do really other than complain.. i cant return it

It seems strange. Guys can you do this epxeriment. When you Turn ON the iphone, You see the apple logo with NO white dots. Then they just show up. I dont think the brightness changes at that points. This leads me to believe that its some kind of init call that does something wrong somewhere.. Which means might be a firmware issue after all. I'll post more details when i activate the phone and play around.

I have this issue. It started when the touch came out. I got one at Best Buy but it had the bad display. I took it back and ordered an iPhone from Apple Refurbished. It arrived but had the same issue. I took it into the Apple Store in Plano, TX only to be told there was nothing wrong with it. When I got home I called Apple and after about an hour got to a personal phone rep who was very helpful.

With her I ordered another one and issued a return on the first. When the 2nd phone arrived it had the same issue again. I called her back, and she told me she had everything in the case notes, called the Dallas Apple Store and set up a Genius appointment for me. Told me to go and not leave until satisfied. I haven't even activated it yet.

Went into the Dallas Apple Store, and the "Genius" again claimed this was the first he'd heard of the issue. Took the phone unactivated into the back to restore it for some reason, but came back out 15 minutes later with a another, unboxed, already activated phone. Said here, the notes say to just exchange it.

I looked it over, but it had the same issue as before, and while I was waiting I had checked all of their display models and all but two were displaying negative blacks. These were all freshly placed, week 33 models though.

When I said I wasn't happy he got the manager who told me that there wasn't a problem. I tried to get them to bring up the image in this thread on a computer and on the phone, but they said it wouldn't matter since the computer is a different display. I tried to get them to show me their phones but they wouldn't since that's against policy. Though they said their displays were identical to mine.

I took them over to one of the few good display phones, brought up the image on it and mine, and it was at this point that they acknowledged the difference, but stated it was slight. Slight! On one you could see a face, on another just a black glowing box. They said they'd speak with the GM and again disappeared into the back.

They came back out a few minutes later saying that it was within spec and that there was nothing they could do. I asked them both, in turn, if this was the official word. They both replied that yes, this was official and there was nothing to be done.

So here I am, 1 bad iPod touch, and 3 bad iPhones down. I've called my phone rep again to see if there is anything else to do, but at this point I think I'm done. Nothing is worth this much trouble and time wasted.

Notes:

First iPhone was week 32
Second iPhone was week 34
Third iPhone was week 33

All iPhones were panel 7455232

The funny thing (maybe scary given the upcoming update) is that I now have an iPhone straight from an Apple Store that been hacked for activation (I guess since I surely didn't activate it sitting in the store and they just handed it to me like this). An official hack?

Spoke with my Phone rep again. She now confirms that this is within spec, but that she wants me to be happy with the display and that it's up to customer perception. She wants me to think it over tonight and call her back in the morning.

My options are.

Send bad phone in for repair, if it gets fixed, be happy, if not, she'll do a force return and get me a new one until I'm happy. This takes time though, lots of it.

Or, buy another one, this time not refurbished, but new, and hope the issue was resolved on the newest models.

So, a question. What should I do? I'm thinking of buying the new one and hoping it's good. If it's bad, I'll return it and stay away.

Has anyone had a new one, bought very recently from Apple.com with these problems?

Ok, i dont seem to have the negative black effect (PHEWWWW...) but i have those white dots, which are bearable. I notice tho that on startup those dots are not there, and then they just show up. Again... lets hope this is firmware fixable

I went through 2 bad iPhones today at the Apple Store. It is definitely not "within spec" - Apple has said that this is a problem, officially. (At least for the Touch)

The Apple Store in Natick, MA was extremely kind to me and instantly said that my iPhone display looked terrible and wrong compared to the employee's, and exchanged it for a brand new phone. This phone was bad, as well as the next one I got. They said they weren't aware of a bad batch but they dont want to keep giving me bad phones, so they said to make genius bar appointments whenever possible every few days or every week and we will switch for a new phone until I get one with a correct display. They take my word that the replacements have bad displays and don't even second-guess me and check it out for themselves.

That is the best service I can ask for other than getting a good phone. :D

Hopefully I'll get one of the Week 37 models soon (they kept giving me 36s), so hopefully by Friday they go through the week 36 stock.

Everyone keep in mind that the Touch owners didn't get their screens all straight until week 38...

Hey everyone,

I have been following this thread with great interest since my wife got me an iPhone two weeks ago. Sure enough, I had the negative black issue. The LCD panel ID was 7455232. I made an appointment with the Genius Bar at the Apple Store Mall of America, Bloomington, MN. I showed the Genius my phone and explained what was going on. He took out his iPhone and compared to mine. He seemed aware of the issue and had another way of checking if the screen is sub-par. He open the Calculator app on both iPhones. His was a 5 series panel. He showed me that on a good display you can clearly see a textured look to the calculator face between the 'buttons.' His was clearly visible and on mine you could barely make it out. I showed him the Jay-Z album cover. So, without question, he exchanges my iPhone for another. I ask him if I can check it before I leave which I do and see the same problem. So the Genius, who was EXTREMELY helpful, starts taking out box after box of replacement iPhones until we find a good one, which happens to be a 5755232 series screen with a week 33 manufacture date. All of the other replacements were 7455232 series. He says to me that it looks like they definitely have a production problem with that series of LCDs and shows another Genius what is going on. Unfortunately, I discovered when I got back to work that I have a few dead pixels. So, I am going to wait a month until they get through a batch of these replacement iPhones until they get through the 7455232 series screens, if they do.......

I have a series 7 week 27 screen and i don't have the negative black problem...........

Oh, man. My 8gb refurb is arriving in a day or two-- now I'm more apprehensive than excited. What are my chances of having this problem on my phone? 50/50? Higher?

This sucks.

Update:

I went to a different Apple store (Holyoke) and explained the problem I have and showed them the Jay Z example. I explained what the other store did and they took an interest in it. They took my phone into the back room to look at it in the dark and compared it to their refurbished iPhones and after about 20 minutes, came back out with a new iPhone that has a proper display!! :D

They also asked me many questions about it and said they were going to file a proper report about the problem to Apple because from what I told them (going through multiple brand new iPhones in the store).

So I'm happy now!

BTW, the one they gave me that works is a week 34.

Hello. I'm new to the forums, and I stumbled upon this forum when I noticed that my iphone wasn't showing dark images correctly, and lo and behold, this thread was full of the same issues I was having.

I don't remember exactly what the series number on my LCD panel is..

I purchased my iPhone last wednesday at an AT&T store, as the nearest Apple store is over 100 miles away. So, after playing around with it awhile I notice that it has a the reflective screen issue and I tried to exchange it at the ATT store I purchased it at, but all I could get out of them was, "call Apple", they wouldn't even acknowledge a problem with it let alone talk to me. So I ended up going to another ATT store and it just happens to be that one of my old co-workers works at that particular store and was there. So I show him what it was doing, and he immediately saw the problem, as did his other associate. He showed his manager and talked to him about it, trying to get him to just do a straight exchange on the phone because it had only been a day of having it. Despite his trying to get the manager to do it, he refused and I was told to call Apple, yet again. So I called Apple, told them about the problem I was having and he put me on hold momentarily to go talk to a tech. After he returned, I was immediately told that they would ship me an AppleCare iPhone for my use and to return my iPhone in that packaging for service at no cost to myself because it was so new and of course, still under warranty.

I called Saturday, they shipped the AppleCare iPhone on Monday and I just received it today (Tuesday) and shipped them back my phone. I'll try and keep y'all updated on what happens if you would like, but so far it looks like they're going to take care of the phone for that issue.

Sorry for the long post, was a bit of background. Also, I've only had a few hours of sleep as the FedEx guy came early and I couldn't get back to sleep, so there may be some very incoherant stretches. :D

I have a week 32 iPhone (7R732******), I got it 3 days ago, and I first noticed the problem when watching a movie with some dark scenes (the beginning of Donnie Darko if you've seen it)

I heard about the negative black issue, but when I looked into it I found out its exactly what my iPhone had...

My dilemma -

I don't have the money to get at&t service yet, so I used the iPhone Tool to bypass activation. It works just like an iPod touch now.

Now, If I were to restore it and bring it into the Apple store, how would I show the problem? Can I bring it in with bypassed activation, and they will still give me service? (does bypassing activation void the warranty?)

Also, there is one stuck pixel that doesn't really bother me too much, but it just adds on to the problem with the negative black...

I just got back from the Apple Store. I restored it, and used the iPhone tool to activate it...

I got up to the genius bar, and brought up the black album. She said that there was a slight difference, and because it was under the 14 day limit she could swap it out. My new phone has the 7455232 LCD panel, and it is horrible compared to my first one. The negative black is worse than in any pictures I've seen on the internet... The serial number is 32733******, so I think she gave me a refurb... The lady was nice, and even though she didn't see it as bad she still swapped it out...

So now, I have a refurb (I payed for a new phone) with a HORRIBLE display...

What do I do now?

Also, thanks to everyone who suggested things to do!
