4.0.2 hosed my entire library. I open up iPhoto and it now says "no photos" instead of the 5500 that were there before

I'm reimporting all my pictures back in right now and I'll try the 4.0.3 update when I get home.

In two years, this is my first Mac catastrophe. :(

4.03 launches, asks me to update my photos (which takes way to quick when its 1.25gb library and a 450mhz machine) then just says "loading photos" nothing else, i repaired permissions, trashed prefs and it still does this.
it just sits there saying "loading photos"

You know the truth dont you...

The iPhoto update has pics from Steve's recent operation which will now be subliminally appearing during all your slide shows with phrases relating to beating the big C designed to enhance Steve's "reality distortion field" (TM) :D

Wow—at this rate we'll be at iPhoto 5 any day now! :) /

They should say what the problem is, and it should automatically update from 4.0.2 (someone earlier says it doesn't notify you an update's available).

I doubt most users go to Apple Discussions or MacRumors to find out if the update they just installed yesterday already needs to be updated again. And how many "regular" people run Software Update everyday?

While the topic is about uprades, what version is XCode now. I'm running 1.1 but heard that Apple was supposed to release 1.5 today. I've never been able to download anything from the ADC site, the ftp download never seems to work. Why doesn't Apple provide all of the ADC downloads from the regular downloads site.

The thumbnails in my iPhoto library render much faster in this version. This update is certainly better than 4.0.2.

Ruh Roh...

Not sure if this happened to anyone else, but the iPhoto update stopped mid-way and gave me the spinning beach ball of death on my week-old G5. Wouldn't let me force quit or anything, had to hold down the power button to restart. Now it Software Update says there's nothing for me to upgrade. Super.

For me, it stopped midway, displayed a red exclamation point next to the update in the list and said to check my connection. I didn't get a spinning beachball, however.

Since I am and was currently surfing on the Web, I know my Web access is fine and has not been interrupted. Maybe Apple's servers had a momentary hiccup?

I just checked again now and the update is still available for me. I'll try downloading it again. I guess if it doesn't show up in the list for you, you'll have to download it manually.

EDIT: I resumed the update and it's done. Opened it, and it took approx. 5 seconds to update my photos (I have less than 1000). I quickly played around with a couple things, and then quit. It closed quickly. So all seems A-OK for me.

Mmm. This time round I might wait a few days...

Same for me on my (Original)Dual 1.8 G5.

Apple is really horrible at admitting to security flaws and software problems... this is a primo example... them not saying what was fixed in the 4.02 release.
you never know, there could have been a huge hole or somthing that could be dangerous to reveal, like somthing that could hack someone [edit: steve jobs' pr0n collection] else's iDisk or somthing.

i think ill give it a couple of days before i risk upgradeing to a magical dissapearing upgrade!

I don't think the exact nature of the operation really makes any difference with the spinning beachball of death. It's just a regular occurance with OSX that you have to get used to.

Slightly different problem with iPhoto

Has anyone else had the problem where iPhoto appears to start up just fine, bringing up the library, but after a few more seconds it brings up the spinning beachball for about 5 minutes? During this time, the activity monitor does not show ANY CPU activity associated with iPhoto although 3 threads are open. Problem was happening before both iPhoto upgrades.

I am using iPhoto Buddy to manage several different libraries. (The library referenced above only has 252 photos)

I have repaired permissions and killed the requisite files as suggested by Apple.

System Specs: 1 GHz 15" TiBook, 768 MB RAM, 10.3.4, iPhoto 4.0.3

Any ideas?

This update removes pancreatic tumers. :D

Sigh... obviously you didn't read the other iPhoto thread where another inconsiderate person such as yourself made the same comment. Let me reiterate what I said to him:

Your comment is totally uncalled for and not humorous no matter what anyone's sense of humor might be. Show some respect for Steve and his condition, along with everyone else in his position, many of whom are far, far worse off. There are good people out there with this condition who are going to die gruesome deaths and you try and make light of that? Show some respect and more importantly show some maturity.
