update the iPod Classic.

Just saying: A short time ago I went to Amazon, and they are not selling anything that is seriously competing with iPods (except some used device made in 2011). It seems that everybody has given up on investing in this category (including Apple) to make newer products, and many have given up on selling in the category (fortunately not Apple).

I think that standalone media players are dead. Even some cheaper smartphones can replace the iPod. Apples mistake was, that they did not integrate GPS in the iPod. No replaceable battery, no memory expansion and hardware decoder support only for a handful of formats makes this device even more unattractive.

What? As I just said, there are no music players around (anymore) that are competing with Apple in that category at all. Nobody cares about removable batteries and memory expansion. Nobody cares about limited hardware decoder support because (a) the formats used are supported and (b) most people don't even have any idea what that means.

Yes, there is a new category that is generally more useful than an iPod, which is the smartphone. My new iPod is a used iPhone 3GS which is _used_ as an iPod (and has the GPS, and can make phone calls if needed and connect to the internet, but rarely ever does).

I want the complete set of iPod touch color choices for their iPads. Those shades. I like them much more than that of the iPhone 5c.

Is Apple really expected to update iPods next year? They'll keep selling them but I doubt they will be updated.

Yes, they will update the iPod touch. There's no way that they'll have iOS 8 running on an A5 chip in 2014.

Do you also feel like MacRumors is posting more junk for the sake of posting something? I feel like this has gotten worse the past few months.

Yes. These round-ups add nothing new to the discussion, in fact, this has been the worst round-up. "We know nothing about the new iPods, so we'll just write that they'll be released Fall 2014." Thank you for the obvious info, MacRumors.

Like an iPod Watch

If they have an ipod on a watch, with Nikefuel band/Fitbit capabilities, and find a way to not have it attached to headphones (meaning wireless), I would like one.

Basically the current problem I'm describing is that currently one needs an iPod, headphones, and wristband (or some way to collect body data)... it's should be all in one and conveniently synced to with your other data on your iPhone and any special apps. (I guess sorta like an evolution of the Shuffle)

.

The Time capsule should turn into Mac/iPhone user's personal iCloud.

I like this idea. I just picked up a 2TB TC and with only my Mac Mini with 140Gb of it's 620Gb total (500Gb spinner and 120Gb SSD) there's plenty of spare room on the TC not being used.
And even with 3 iPhones, 3 iPads and an iPod in the house to back up, there will still be a stack of spare space.
If Apple takes hints at all this is one I'd ike them to look into.

They just updated the earphones/EarPods. I'm not sure if they would update it again or just introduce a wireless headset model.

I hope they never discontinue the iPod line. I love all my iPods and will continue to purchase more in the future (if they're still around). There are lots of things my iPhone 5 does great, but I like having a dedicated music player.

I hope they never discontinue the iPod line….
The hope dies last.
But it looks like, almost nobody cares about iPods. Even here noone mentions that there is a new Firmwareupgrade for the iPod Nano 7G and it makes trouble with Nike+. Nobody cares about, that the Nike+ website for syncing the walks is still down, since almost 2 years.

Apple forgot, that the iPod was the entrance to their company. Apple is running out of ideas. They can only think of iPhone and if they want to make a new iPod, it will become a small iPhone, that nobody really want to have. They make iPhone 5C with stupid colors. Apple is having a burnout, but i hope they will be healthy soon.

How about a "glass" screen that doesn't crack so easily and then cost more than half the price of the ipod to get replaced.(And that goes for the ipad too.) :(

Continuing our series of roundups summarizing the latest news and rumors about each of Apple's products, today we are publishing five new roundups covering the company's iPod and AirPort lineups. The new roundups include iPod touch, iPod nano, iPod shuffle, iPod classic, and AirPort.

Apple's iPod lineup has not seen much in the way of updates recently, with a September refresh seeing only a slight change to color offerings for the iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPod shuffle with the previous slate color option being replaced with a new space gray option carried over from iPhone 5s. The new color later made its way to the iPad Air and iPad mini as well. Given that Apple typically updates its iPods in the fall each year, new iPods are not expected until late next year.

The AirPort line of Wi-Fi base stations is currently divided, with the larger AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule models having been updated in June with new designs and support for the latest 802.11ac networking standard. The AirPort Express has not been updated to support 802.11ac and was last updated in June 2012 when it received an Apple TV-like redesign.

As with our previous roundups, the goal of our iPod and AirPort roundups is to simply answer the question of "What are you expecting" for Apple's future products at any given time. That opinion evolves over time as new rumors surface, and our roundups will be updated regularly to reflect the latest rumors.

All of our roundups remain accessible through a dedicated index page showing a time-ordered list based on the last date each roundup was updated, as well as directly through the "Roundups" tab in the navigation bar on all MacRumors pages.

New airport models probably coming soon in 2016 since drop on rerurb models noted March 2016.
