Why not make it all round instead? ... would look neat hanging from a cord like a necklace ... or something similar to the old pocket watches.... maybe even have a 'clock' mode

That would be freaking awesome. I already want one, for a different reason than anyone here has mentioned. My iBook is with me all the time, but you look like a major dork walking around w/ your notebook open to listen to music. At the same time, it's no big deal to swap a playlist around every day or so.

I guess the only thing we all know about this (apart from it's coming I hope) is that when it comes, lots of people will want one cus it will look so good.[/QUOTE

No, we know a lot more than that...

• We can also easily and accurately predict that many people will call it simultaneously too expensive and lacking in storage capacity.
• We will complain about the form factor, and also about the color choice(s).
• Naturally, battery life will get bashed, too.
• Of course, there are those who, despite it being the low-cost entry into Apple digital music players, will also complain that it doesn't have a 7" color screen, video out, and pda functionality.
• Why isn't this a phone and an iTunes remote for my Airport Express network?
• Given that this type of device is great for workouts, bike rides, runs and such, some people will wish it could track how many calories you are burning and what mileage you cover, too. C'mon Apple, why can't it measure your heart rate???
• What, no bluetooth headphones? What is Apple doing??
• And let's not forget the ever popular general standby "Why does Apple always seem to miss the boat on new products?" whine-fest.

Can't wait :D

You forgot to mention that it's not going to play Ogg-Vorbis files...

Flash pod good idea

I dropped my 30 Gb ipod 3 weeks ago. It's toast. I'm sad. sucky thing is that apple said it would be cheaper to by a new ipod. So I think an ipod that has no moving parts would rock (flash has no moving parts right?). Sure the capasity sucks, but if you drop it, I'll assume it won't be as bad as what happened to me.

Anyone know of where to get an ipod fixed in Canada? I found a few sites on the web, but they are in the States, and I'd prefer to keep it within Canada. Just so it's cheaper and I won't have to deal with the hassle of boarder.

Flash Player be a coming???

Recently something happened that makes me believe that we will see a flash player early next year.

At this point all I can say is that I have a strong well developed gut feeling. Then again, maybe I am still suffering from all that Thanksgiving turkey!

Sure looking forward to MWSF.

Aw, come on Sushi, you gotta give us more than that! At least make a wild claim to gnaw off an appendage if you're wrong! ;)

Okay. Okay. I promise to gnaw off _your_ leg if I am wrong!

How's that?

I probably should not have posted my comment in the first place. Let's just say that a source has failed to respond the way they normally would based on a message to them concerning the flash iPod. Yes, I know that this is vague. Sorry. And I could be totally out in left field on this. But for some reason, I have a real strong gut feeling that I am not.

...but I am willing to gnaw off your leg if I am wrong. Does that help? :D

Has anyone figured out how the ipod flash will handle huge file lists? I can't imagine having to click your way down a huge list. My thinking is a stretch: voice activated. Maybe not the actual title, but things like jump to songs that start with "T" or something. It is supposed to hang around your neck right?

Ok its a stretch... what other ideas do you think Apple has pulled up?

Alright then buddy, you've got a deal! (Heh heh, sucker, little does he know I have two wooden legs...) :p ;)

Cell Phone Ipod?

encrypt3d said:
Ill stick with my 20GB one. What can you do with only 1GB?

Has anyone thought of the posssibulity that apple will combine a flash ipod with a cell phone. The two go perfectly together and would fit in a small attractive package that would open a new market comprised of current ipod owners.

Moto Deal: Apple realizes t hat it needs partners. Perhaps apple will liscinse its songs to all cell phone companies and make its own.

The more I think about it the more I think the flash ipod should be part of the new Motorola phones as part of that deal mentione dearlier this year. That way you get a colour screen, other functionalty such as space for photos, and a device that most of us carry anyway with the benefits of a chunk of our itunes library. Include symbian oerating system for full isync with everything on your Mac for contact info, and I think we have a winner.

Who will be the first to set their ring tone to the entire "Street Official Mixtape" that Apple is giving away?

iPod Flash competition

Just returned from a typical electronics store in Japan.

They had some very cool MP3 flash players.

Saw the iAUDIO U2. Very nice.

http://eng.iaudio.com/

Then click on the iAudio U2 link.

1GB Flash / FM / Mic Recording / Line in recording

Smaller than a pack of gum. Goes for about 20 hours on a battery charge.

Expensive...yes. Worth it...yes/maybe. This model along some others were sold while I was there. Very popular.

Also noticed some good interest in the iPod mini. But not the same fevor. It seems that the flash players are quickly becoming a fashion statement. The iPod mini, while very nice, just can't be hung from a neck strap device -- it's too big and heavy.

I sure hope Apple doesn't drop the ball on their flash player if they introduce one.

What part of your iPod is broken? If it starts up, but just can't load playlists, or play music, then it's the hard disk. If it doesn't even start up after resetting it, then the logic board is probably broken. That could happen in a flash player too. A device doesn't need moving parts to be fragile.

I can't see why apple would not enter the flash based market, while I would not purchase one there are many people who would. Why not tap into that market by using the iPod's name as a sure fire way to increase the ipod and apple brand name.

Addition...

I know this seems like 3rd generation news, but I was talkign to 2 poeple who claimed to be parents of the guy who created the iPod and they said the new flash iPod was going to be the size of a AA battery and would hold 1500 songs. we'll see....

This doesn't even make sense to me.

Apple is known for it's great interfaces. It's hard to see how a AA sized device would accomplish this. Readable display? Useable interface?

As you state...we'll see!

Still waiting on this end for any more info. On a side note I hate to visit the stores here. So many flash based players. Nice ones! Seem to be selling very well.

Saw somewhere on MR were someone suggested that Apple change MW to before the holidays. You know, if Apple did MWSF in the November timeframe it would certainly make x-mas purchases a no brainer and increase sales.

Ah what do I know. Back to waiting for the flash iPod...

The iAudio G3 2GB model is out in Japan. Yes, 2GB. Works well. Battery lasts a long time (50 hours by spec). Cost is 44,000 yen.

Awesome!

Looks like the iAudio G2 or G3 will be my next flash MP3 player if Apple doesn't deliver with the iPod flash/micro.

Is it just me, or does it seem like it is taking forever for MWSF?

Arg!

Who cares about MWSF? I bet it won't come before february..
I realize that items introduced during MWSF won't be available for a while...at least that is the usual situation.

However, knowing what is coming out down the pike will be nice.
