Onkyo Setup instead
I was recently looking for something similar to this. I have an iPod 3g 30gig, and like to be able to use it at home.
I have a finished basement with a "home theater". Its a work in progress, but I have a nice receiver, speakers, decent TV, etc. Plus a good heavy mini-RCA cable to listen to my iPod.
However, upstairs in my living room, we wanted to be able to listen to iPods, the radio (mostly red sox games, but sometimes the news), the occasional CD, etc.
I looked at Bose (No Highs, No Lows, must be BOSE (tm)), Klipsch, JBL, etc.
I ended up with this:
http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=CS-210&class=Audiosys&p=i
with their iPod dock
http://www.onkyousa.com/dsa1.cfm
It was under $300 dollars, I can pick up the base with the iPod in it to select songs and the remote works on the iPod, pause, play, skip, fast forward, etc.
The speakers have a better frequency response than the HI-FI
Speaker Type - 2-Way, Bass Reflex
Woofer 4 13/16"" OMF Cone
Tweeter 7/8"" Balanced-Dome
Frequency Response 50 Hz-40 kHz
APPLE iPod HI-FI Frequency response: 53Hz to 16kHz ± 3 dB
Crossover Frequency 7.5 kHz
Sensitivity 83 dB/W/m
Max. Power 70 W
Nominal Impedance 5 ohm
AND it weighs 7.5 lbs.
If I ever hook it up to a TV, it will show the photos from an iPod.
Of Course, since it has multiple inputs, I could also hook up a tape deck or Airport Express as well as the iPod dock.
It does charge the iPod as well.
So, I get better sound, better stereo due to movable speakers, it weighs less, plays CDs and has a radio, and is $50 cheaper.
I am glad with what I got. I just don't see any advantages to the HI-FI, unless you like black and white. In which case you can paint the stereo!
