Don't get me wrong. I currently own a 30GB video iPod, and its looks are fabulous. But having previously owned a Microsoft Zune, comparing them, i actually preferred the zune. Sure, transferring videos isnt as easy, but i normally dont put any videos on it my music players anyway.

Im not a big fan of that touch sensitive wheel, and i prefer the zune's click wheel. The downside is the zune has a problem with... er... breaking down.

If the zune ever gets mac-compatibility, you can see my iPod up for trade, hopefully for the slick-looking halo 3 zune.

Which brings me up to the statement, also, if anybody has one and is willing to get rid of it for an iPod, feel free to knock.

So Your Opinion Dictates The iPod As A Fad? What About Years Of Millions Of iPods Sold?!

ya i don't think that its much of a fad. They're amazing little devises and the zunes fail in comparison (and thats coming from someone who almost bought a zune)

You could argue that MP3 players on the whole are a fad, once the next thing comes out all the iPods and Zunes of the world will be outdated. You have to group both players together tho.

There is one other downside to the Zune and every other player on the market; there's no video content. The average user cannot rip DVDs because of encryption. The Zune store has music videos, but ONLY Apple sells copyrighted movies and TV shows.

Creative has nothing. Zune has music videos. Apple has more music videos, movies, and TV shows. If you care for video content, there's no option BUT iPod.

I agree, Except; How is a Zune not a fad if iPod is?
Well, to be a fad people have to widely adopt and love it. Don't think the Zune even makes it to the Fad level.

When I say fad I mean that eventually something better will come out that will kill iPod sales.

when i say fad i mean iPod really wouldnt sell half as well if 10 kids on your 5 house street have it, and 500 kids in a run-down small philadelphia poverty riddled neighborhood still have an iPod nano pressure you.

by the way the answer to your question is NO

It's one hell of a fad then to last 6 years and sell over 100 million units so far! :) I'm sure Steve Ballmer loves your thinking though. ;)

Thanks for a laugh:)

Fads die because they are lame. Technology usually gets replaced with something more advanced.

I seriously doubt the iPod could even be considered a fad at this point and if they keep updating and innovating, the iPod brand itself will last for a while.

A fad is defined as a fashionable craze, like the hula hoop.
I guess you could say iPod is a fad, but I think one think we overlook is that one of the most important features of the iPod is not the iPod itself but the underlying works, the songs that we use to define our life. That makes for a deeper love than a hula hoop.

Pogs were a fad. Pokémon cards were a fad. the iPod has been around since 2001, and 6 years later is still going quite strong.

It's not a fad.

I'm too tired to argue which one is better though, except the sales numbers should speak for themself. Keep in mind, the first iPods were $500 for 5 gigs, and the first Zune's were $300 for 30gb.

I didn't think anything could get lamer than the OP's post...guess I was wrong.

How does all that relate to the iPod being a fad. Which, by the way, is your opinion that you are entitled to...no matter how wrong you are.

disguise? Its just a hyperlink.... dont you know how to do that? wow your a noob!
It's you're. The word is you're.

Yeah, thats true, but seriously, iPod is a fad, even Cnet agrees with me...

That's right because CNet clearly is the authority on all things fad.

I think you're wrong. I think something will replace the iPod...another iPod. Do a search buddy for all the lame threads on every Mac board that starts with OMG IPOD KILLER! You too will be amazed at how many iPod killers there are out there.

Enjoy your Zune buddy.

fad
–noun a temporary fashion, notion, manner of conduct, etc., esp. one followed enthusiastically by a group.

I suppose in the whole scheme of the existence of the universe the amount of time the iPod will exist will be temporary.
So Mr MacBook has a point.:)
