I don't know what planet you are from but my iPod is (currently) holding 1288 songs, 10 podcasts, 4 TV shows, 3 feature length movies, and a bunch of notes, applications, etc.

Oh, also a few thousand contacts and all my email. ;)
Yes but it has to hold 200 songs for when you go away on WE.

3 reasons to doubt ...

I believed this rumour at first, probably because it's exactly what I *wanted* to believe (that the new iPod will have a camera). :) Now I am not so sure.

If you take a close look at these drawings, there are several questionable errors that would make it unlikely they could be used to program tool and die equipment for the necessary molds.

  1. on the top of the "back view" on the right the radiating lines describing the curve are themselves curved. This makes no sense in terms of the 3D object being described (at least to my eye).
  2. the line on the same view just above the median makes no sense also because it's angled. This is either a mistake, or a line demarking a removable piece like a battery cover?
  3. the hash lines on the side view on the extreme right also make no sense in that this is generally done on a flat surface. They also, very unprofessionally, go over the edge of the outline.

So please, whomever made up this (apparent) fake ... do I get the prize for pointing out all the flaws? :D Did I miss any?

Either that or the average American case manufacturer hires twelve year olds to do their CAD work, which of course entirely possible.

well most the people i know who call it an iTouch are around 13-15 years old... so theres your answer...

Hey. I'm 13. I would never call it an itouch! I do know a lot about technology. I have upgraded a PowerMac G4 and an iMac G3. I have a total of 6 macs in my house. 2 iMacs, 3 PowerBooks, and a G4.

Sorry if I came off a little stupid sounding but not all 13-15 year olds are like that.

you have 6 Macs

On that note I am going to sleep.

/BARFS/ I really hope that that isn't the new Nano design. It looks sooooo ugly and unusable because it will wobble everytime I put it on a flat surface. There's no way I'd buy one if it looks like that and has a screen like that. Regarding the iPod touch, I don't understand why Apple is bulking up their products. It seems like a giant step backwards. Looks like "Let's get ready to suck" is going to be the new slogan for this event. /Sighs in disappointment/

Cool, like I said - I am using a 15gb 2004 model. Ok, after 9/9 this may be the year I upgrade - we shall see

Not that my opinion counts for much, but I quite like 'iTouch'. I think it better represents the punch and simplicity Apple's famous for.

I don't like 'MacBook'. 'PowerBook' always did it for me.

I'm hope for a nice price cut across the board, and if these rumors of 199 iPod touch is true, then we're gonna see it! I really don't know where it levels the other mode thought....unless Apple keeps the Nano at 8Gbs, which would be a downer.

49 for iPod shuffle 2Gb
99 for iPod nano 4Gb
149 for iPod nano 8Gb
199 for iPod touch 8Gb
299 for iPod touch 16Gb
399 for iPod touch 32Gb
249 for iPod classic 120Gb
349 for iPod classic 240Gb

I mean, I'd rather see

49 for iPod shuffle 2Gb
79 for iPod shuffle 4Gb
99 for iPod nano 8Gb
149 for iPod nano 16Gb
199 for iPod touch 16Gb
299 for iPod touch 32Gb
399 for iPod touch 64Gb
249 for iPod classic 120Gb
349 for iPod classic 240Gb

But I don't know if thats in Apple's profit margins.

6 macs? 1 for each member of the family? Man and my wife was concerned about me buying her a mini because of the cost of a new computer... we only have 2 macs. My macbook and her mini

It would be really cool, if the new iPod touch looked like the iPhone 3G, has an external speaker with a volume rocker, and had web and email service anywhere, like with the iPhone but no phone/calling plan.
Just an idea.

look like leaked photos from a few months back

That touch design looks a lot like these images.
I tried to find that image in the archives but didn't have any luck.

new nano screen looks 4:3 still...

what happened to all the widescreen talk?

if you want to watch movies on a small screen, you want more a 16:9 ratio screen. no black bars (well, ok less black bars on wide, wide screen films).

it just looks like the same screen (and probably still 320x240 res) turned sideways.

the 3" (480x270) screen on the Samsung P2 would be better for movies - if only the damn thing played more formats... guess you can't win!

on another note, i'm really hanging out that iTunes store goes 256kbs DRM free on everything. Now that would encourage me to buy more music there. Until now I only buy DRM stuff you can't buy in shops on CD (old stuff that stores don't stock on CD). Bring on the DRM free tunes!!!

I've been posting my speculations around and haven't seen similar opinions on this thread yet, so here it goes.

1. iPod Nano: internal wifi antenna

2. iPod Touch:
A. IR +/- RF and light sensor for expanded remote functions
B. Some hardware updates to make apps more cross-compatible (e.g., camera, crappy speaker/microphone; probably not GPS, just because they have no other source for maps than Google. On the other hand, a lot of the best apps include localization features, so who knows).

3. iTunes 8.0:
A. audio streaming to Nano
B. audio streaming to Touch (maybe video)
C. streaming functions over any network
D. music stream is tied to each individual user/PMP to collect behavioral data (music listening behavior) which are used to generate individual playlists and to suggest new music
E. sharing library with friends (just like Simplify Media's app)

I'm a little skeptical about Apple getting into the individualized music streaming business, just because it's a new business model involving paying streaming music royalties, which have caused so much trouble for Pandora Radio, internet radio, etc. However, maybe they'll ask you to buy a certain amount of music in exchange, just like those CD clubs where you got 12 CDs for one penny and then tried to scam your way out of the rest. But there's no doubt that that behavioral data connecting listeners to new music is valuable to an effort like the iTunes store. I just hope they push event information like LastFM does, instead of just pushing recordings. Living, performing artists benefit most from live performances, and a lot of people would like to know where to see live music, not just buy recordings. However, Apple and recording companies really only benefit from the sale of recordings, so who knows.

Anyway, my two cents.
