It's a marketing term, not technology if you were in doubt. Besides, the Touch has all the markings of being an iConsumer Product.
I believe the iPhone is locked into AT&T in the United States until around 2010 or so.
Digital FM radio is now being broadcast (we have a few stations here in Seattle), however there are absolutely no plans whatsoever to stop analog broadcasts of AM and FM radio in the United States. Only US analog terrestrial television broadcasts are being ended in 2009.

I Really Want a Camera on The iPod Touch!
I would like to see a camera, a 20 GB HD, for $300 or less. That would really take the place of all the gadgets for me, since my cell phone I pay $15 every 3 months with Virgin Mobile. I need a phone, but don't use all the minutes.

Large hard drive, lower price point, more useful apps.
If I am about to go spend $200 or more, I want something worthwild. otherwise I might as well stick with my 2004 antique model
i have over 500 songs, tv shows, pictures, apps and musicvideos on my iPod Touch (16 GB) and i have still enough space left

I have an iPod Touch, 6 months now, and I love it. The two features I would add if I was in charge of Apple (and sometimes I pretend I am) are speakers and improved location ability via GPS or better Wifi triangulation.

I read through this entire thread and by the time I got to the end, had totally forgotten that it was about someone's mother using an iTouch with GPS.
For me the advantage would be to run my airport extreme network in N only mode so i can actually get full N speeds and not half.
I really don't like the new design. Not after it looks like a more tapered version of the 2G iPod nano. But I'll wait and see before judging for real.
I want physical volume controls too. I hate having to take my touch out of my pocket in the metro for fear of getting mugged haha. It's inconvenient too. I hope the make the buttons high quality like the 2G iPhone. I love the feel of those buttons!
It would be cool if they added a camera too. Imagine an 8 mm thin camera with a huge screen. It would be even cooler than an iPhone IMHO.

If they have cheapened the buttons on the Iphone, why would they make quality ones for the Itouch?

Just a question about the rounded back of the iPhone and upcoming iTouch: If you put it on a flat surface, would it wobble around like crazy? I could think of a couple of apps where that would be really annoying.
Anyway, the blueprints for the new iTouch look cool! I really like the external buttons on the iTouch. Not sure about the rounded back on the iTouch, though. Either way, I'm pretty sure I am going to buy this new iTouch. I can't wait until they officially announce the new iTouch soon! iTouch rocks!
