A guy here at work (in the UK) ordered a black nano on Monday. He got it yesterday. Maybe it's just the US that has stock issues on deliveries.

Incidently Apple has started the hard sell over here. Full page ads in some of the papers (there's been one in the 'Metro' everyday the last few days) and on the London Underground (Subway). I haven't seen any TV ads but I don't watch that much TV.

i noticed the newspaper ads. is this the first time we've seen newspaper ads from apple in london? i think it might be..

i haven't seen any on the tube (although i haven't been through oxford circus this week, maybe they have some there?)

people are definitely digging the nano. i even had this one dude have a conversation with me, across escalators, about getting one! heh

We had photographed a mini with a sounddock for the front of our Christmas Gift catalogue but when the nano came out, that had to go on the cover instead.

We got two of them in the office on Monday. I swear that over 90% of the office came to have a look and gush over them... we had to wipe the drool off before we could shoot them.

Considering the mini is no longer on the apple website and that there will be a lot of people buying in the initial rush, I don't read much into those figures.

Great, they are going to think everyone loves black electronics...

glossy black Macs, here we come.
I can see that coming. We had the white iMacs, eMacs and iBooks, the titanium PowerBook and PowerMac and then came the silver and white iPod. Now we have a Mac Mini that is almost identical to the iPod in colour sceme and I can see the iMacs going that way too and the PowerMacs and Books turning black. They are after all bringing in an ex-Sony design team for the new PowerBook and so must be looking towards a radical redevelopment.

Well having sold my 2GB nano, the quest for the 4GB is a long and arduous one. :)

Apple Store Bullring are hoping for some next week but their news seems a day behind the Regent Street store so I called them... end of next week or maybe the end of the month. Jeeeesus.

I'm going to take one last look at the black one tomorrow and then order from the website.

Dixons are saying allow 28 days for the 4GB model.

I'm not overly p*ssed off as my screen cover hasn't arrived yet so it's probably good that I can't get my grubby mitts on one. :D

Why did they even make a 2GB? Oh wait a sec... these are the same guys who used to put only 256M in a Mac...

I might buy a 2GB, I'm not such a power user when it comes to MP3 players (I still use my 64MB Rio alongside my Shuffle).

Anyway, my entire music library is only around 8GB, so I could put most of my heavily played songs on a 2GB Nano.

The pricing structure favors the 4GB model though.

Well, I sold a 512Mb shuffle (which had been a great standby for my 60GB pod) and thought a 2GB nano would be more than enough.

However, when you get it, you sort of don't want to put it down (or maybe I'm just a weirdo? Hmmm.) so I'm getting the 4GB and it'll be the iPod I use the most for now.

It's not much more expensive and I really wish I'd gone for that in the first place... lost about 20 quid on my 2GB on eBay.

Hmmm...the Apple store states that both white and black 4Gb Nanos ships in 5-7 days. 2Gb ones ship within 24 hours. Just order a white 4Gb yesterday and I hope I can get it somewhere within two weeks

A little OT:
Anyone else find it just a little sad that the Apple Store Top Ten doesn't have any non-music related hardware or software other than the QT Pro key?

i have to agree, if they just made 4gb they would have bought more supply which would have made it cheaper to sell, which would have sold more. I mean they're the same size adn the size is the selling point. So if they're the same size i'd rather have 4 than 2 gb.

I suppose it may be a little sad. However, you figure that any place selling anything is going to sell more of the less expensive things than the higher priced items. I'm more likely to shell out 200 bucks for an mp3 player than a grand for a new Mac.

The stock levels our branch of John Lewis, (Nottingham), got in of the nanos.

Tuesday
2GB White ~140, (not sure exactly, I was off)

Wednesday
2GB Black - 29
4GB White - 3
4GB Black - 10

Friday

4GB Black - 10, (I think, I know we got about that many)

Expecting some more 4GB Whites in over the next 24 hours, but they are like gold dust by the sounds of it.

Not really, it's just after a new product release related to music. iPod stuff is bound to sell fast.

If the Top Ten looks like that months from now I'd say it was cause for comment.

i was just at the Shinsaibashi store in Osaka, Japan, the store opened at 11:00am and I was there at about 11:45am, they said that they had just received a shipment of 4gb nanos and that they are already gone. They had a ton of the 2gb ones but instead I decided to get a Silver 4gb mini :D

I ordered a black 4gb on Thursday, It said it would ship no later than the 26th, I got an email this morning saying it was shipped last night! Although it was shipped from Chenzen CN, my Mac Mini shipped from there and was stuck in customs for 4 extra days.

In Search Of... the 4GB nano

Well I went to the Bullring Apple store nice and early this morning on the off chance that they'd had a delivery. Few nano adverts dotted around the Bullring which is good.

Asked the guy at the counter and in a semi-exasperated tone he just said "no". I asked if he knew when more were expected and he just shugged and said "you'll just have to keep trying". Brilliant bit of customer service. I always seem to get served by this same guy though and he always acts like it's a chore. T0sser.

Anyway, I went to the little Apple centre in Brum and again, just a lot of 2 GB models. Checked Dixons. Same there... somebody buying a mini though.

So I called John Lewis in Solihull. VERY helpful. It was just a kind of call centre I think but he checked the stock and said they had a few 4GB blacks showing up but only one white and if that was all that was showing, it's possible that it would have gone already. However he said that they have 11 showing as In Transit so they should have more in the week.

Well I had time to kill so I thought I'd nip over to Solihull and just have a look anyway.

At John Lewis they have a little glass cabinet filled with something like 100 nanos. Piled up on top of each other so you can't really see what there is. Looking at the sides of some of them, they all seemed to be 2GB models but I asked anyway. Again, the very helpful assistant checked and said they have one showing. He looked at the big stack in the cabinet and said "hmmm... I'll check out back first". In the meantime I'd spotted a 4GB box amongst all the others so when he came back I asked what colour it was. He had to drag all the boxes out to get at it but yeah... it was white. :D

Very happy my little escapade wasn't for nothing. lol I considered getting the black but looking at them "in the flesh" again, I just prefer the white.

And to keep this on-topic, there were a LOT of people queueing up to stare at the nano while I was waiting. Seems that word is travelling!

I'm sure Applespider will be happy that you found one in good ol' JL ;)

Word does definitely seem to be spreading. I've seen a vast amount of ads across London (in fact, as someone said, every day in the newspaper - snap below)

p.s. OT - is anyone else digging the guardians new berliner format? it's perfectly sized.

Yeah, good old John Lewis and you'll find we now have a much better returns policy. Previously, (and still at all other stores including non-official, franchised Apple stores), you had to deal with apple from day one, over the phone or web. They wouldn't accept them back from us, so there was nothing we could do. Now, if faulty within 28 days, we call apple, get a case number and debit it back to them, excahnging it for the customer on the spot. Outside 28 days, we send it to a company called CRC which deals with a lot/all of the iPod repairs in the UK. They almost always just send us a replacement for the customer, within a week too.

Of course we always have to test it first to make sure it is actually a hardware fault, but apparently if you bought it from lets say Dixons and went back after 29 days, you have to deal with apple. No extra hassle involved there, but our type of customer doesn't like the sound of it. They won't go onto the website, hate calling apple, and apple often say if it turns out to be software, it can be chargable. They prefer for us to test and send it off.

Oh, and yes, I too am loving the new Berliner Guardian, although the Saturday copy today seemed even thicker than usual.
