Sold Out

At least, that's what Appleinsider is reporting.

I went to my local Best Buy yesterday and they were sold out of all iPod nano models, 2gb and 4gb. I was there to buy a cassette adapter for my black 2gb nano. I have retired my 40gb iPhoto for listening to music, podcasts and books. From now on, my iPhoto will be used to download from my camera and to store everything else just in case.

Big in Japan

Whilst I didn't get to a Mac shop, every electrical store in Tokyo I popped my head in was almost entirely sold out of the nano. The only model I could have bought was a 2GB black model -- and that was only in one shop. Everywhere else had nothing.

Not sure what usual delivery times are like, but the online Apple store is giving a 1-2 week wait for the nano.

As far as Japan is concerned, I can't see it being anything less than phenomenally successful. The only down side to this being I want a 4GB nano and can't get my grubby hands on one!

I really think that we have to wait a while before judging sales. Within the next few months we will have a good idea of how well this product is doing.

Honestly though, I haven't heard one bad thing about it. My friends that have seen it in person are telling me it's smaller than they could have ever imagined. So light and thin that one of my friends considered buying it even though he already owns two other ipods (shuffle and 20g).

I really think the nano will succeed. It's just too good not to. Just wait, next apple financial meeting we will all be jaw gawked about how amazing the nano sales were.

Okay, I can give you one bad thing about them.

Because they are so thin and light, they feel like they would crack in half if I had one in my back pocket and sat on it. With my tight muscular buttocks, (ahem), and the curvature of my pockets when I sit, it is a possibility, in my head at least. I do often sit on my 60Gb in it's case though, (the one that originally came included, with belt clip too), and that is just about comfortable, so I should be able to work around that. They also look more likely to lose.

Oh, and they feel like they are more designed for children/teeneagers, women and those just looking for exercise. I think they are too small as a main music player.

Maybe a tip...

If any of you are trying to buy a nano from a store-- I'd suggest going to electronics stores on/around university campuses-- they stock these items because they're popular, but at the same time, not 'enough' students can afford them ;) so they still have stock on hand. I saw a shelf full of nanos @ UCSC's bookstore.

That's sort of what I'm doing with my old 20 gig iPod. It's not even halfway filled with music, and the other half will be used for pictures, Photoshop, and Illustrator files.

The Nano will be 99% of the time, primary music player.

That's actually a good point, we have two universities within walking distance and our store tends to be well stocked with iPods overall. We rarely get stock problems anymore, only the occasional one being out of stock. Roll on Christmas though and let's see what happens stock-wise.

I ordered a black 4gb on Thursday, It said it would ship no later than the 26th, I got an email this morning saying it was shipped last night! Although it was shipped from Chenzen CN, my Mac Mini shipped from there and was stuck in customs for 4 extra days.

woah.. 4 days.. I think I would have gone mad.. anyway I ordered my nano last tuesday and got it friday. was a bit surprised I got it in 3 days from china. usually I have to wait 3 days for something from across the street. =/ hopefully you get your nano just as fast.

OMGOMGOMG

I am  PISSED  ... I ordered next day air on my iPod Nano... its been like 9 days or something... All apple can say is that its "stuck in customs" which really doesnt tell me anything, because i already knew that. AHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Well to be fair to Apple, they have no control over customs. If it's stuck in customs, it's just a waiting game. :(

Apparently there are some quality control issues coming into play now too with the scratching and now the screen cracking.

The target by my work had a great supply of 2 gig B&Ws, and was still selling 4 gig minis for $199. They'll be slow to sell them at that cost...

Not in Berkeley. We sold out of the 4 GB minis the day after getting the shipment. The 2 GB nanos were gone within about 3-4 days.

Did not go through the site to see how people had the cracked screen issue' but I think I am a "typical" "older" guy whose pockets are a minefield of keys, papers, and much more.

I have been taking my personal nano to work each day to help sell the small numbers of the 2gb models that we got. I have taken to wrapping the nano in micro fiber cloth to reduce scratches; but that is all. And no cracked screen, yet.
