and still no bluetooth? that's the killer app for the nano. what's the point of having a tiny, unobtrusive music player if there's a cord tangling about you while you're working out?

Am I the only one that noticed the Mickey Mouse clock? Either way, its nice to see a small price drop. Hopefully a 32GB version will be made later.

Yeah a 32GB version would have been appreciated. I bought a 16GB nano in early July and I thought I bought too late in the cycle. A $30 price cut is underwhelming to say the least.

After 4 years of the same capacities I'm inclined to think capacity updates are over for Apple in general. They are just wanting to ram their iCloud crap down our throats, never mind the outrageous costs from providers to be able to access the cloud from anywhere outside of Wifi.

Heck, we only got 16GB thanks to Microsoft, Apple viewed their 16GB Zune as a threat at the time and threw it in at the last minute. There is now no competition that is even close to the nano except perhaps the Sansa Clip.

I was hoping that like you said, the receiver wouldn't be required any longer, but looking at the website it says no receiver and no sensor, so I am very confused how this can be accurate. Also what about the nike+ heart rate monitor?

From the Apple site:

Yeah, I read that and it's confusing. I also wonder if the Polar heartstrap would be compatible without the Nike+ receiver. I'd hate for this to be a one step forward/two steps back kind of deal. Might as well go with a 6g nano if I'd need the Nike+ receiver for the heart rate.

"Hey everybody, we're releasing the brand new Nano today with cool features like a Mickey Mouse watch and larger icons. The capacity will also be the same as its been for the past four years!"

The iPod Nano got a software update and they're marketing it as a newer version.

I'm confused, is this an all new iPod or just a software update?

It seems like just a software update...

Was hoping for new features as well, have been waiting for an update to purchase as I recently decided to put my 2nd gen on ebay and let it go to the highest bidder...

With only 16gb capacity (same as my 2nd gen), no bluetooth connectivity, no camera (not necessary, but an interesting feature of a previous nano), etc, etc, I don't know if I'll be buying one or not. The price drop is nice, but they were already selling "brand new in sealed box" on ebay for +/- $30 less on ebay...

SO the lack of hardware upgrades to both the nano and ipod touch probably explains why Apple wasn't clearing them out with the Back To School summer promotions....

Over on 9to5mac, they have an internal support document from Apple that in fine print states:

iPod software update version 1.2 brings all of the features from the October 2011 iPad Nano models to those introduced in September 2010. It is available as a free upgrade through iTunes.

Does that include the Nike+ feature built into the nano itself? I would think there is some hardware in tehre running that as well.

Here's the picture showing the Apple document for the new nano.

Looks like their will no longer be a need for the Nike+ kit if all you want is to track your pace. I suspect the new nano (or updated 6g) will still require the kit if you want to use a heart rate strap (Polar Wearlink+) in your workouts.

I was really hoping the 7g nano would have the actual receiver built-in, but it looks like everything will be routed through the nano's accelerometer.

WOW I AM UNIMPRESSED. New clock faces and nike + are you kidding me?????

The price drop is nice, but utterly warranted given the lack of any substantial new features, the same lame colors (give me a black one for *******'s sake already!) and the same hideous and unbalanced design!!!

FAIL FAIL FAIL. What has the nano team been working on for the last year??? Absolutely nothing.

Yeah, word on the street, Main Street in Walt Disney World to be exact, is that Mickey just said WTF when he heard about the "new" Nano pimping him as a major new feature.

HA! I would have preferred an Eric Cartman clock face. But in any case, 12 months to photoshop some new clock faces is not impressive at all.

I was so exited to get a new nano... but my black 3rd gen is alive and strong. I will not be forking out my cash for this... epic fail.

Hey, still rocking my 16GB nano 4G as of today, but I'll take the price cut. Pays for a new waterproof armband. They're so much smaller now.
