Mine's been sitting at "Preparing iPod software for restore" for a good 5 minutes now. There's a progress bar but it's not showing any progress. Did everyone else's bar behave the same way?

Edit: And the moment I hit Post, it changed to "Restoring iPod software"

Well... I can now finally update my iPod touch to 2.0. Had it jailbroken before, but the only thing I'll really miss are some of the customized themes.

Here's what I imagine happened about 30 minutes ago:

Apple headquarters were empty as all the software people went home, happy as can be that they survived their launch and blissfully ignorant about the ipod touch issue.

Along comes a janitor who realizes that the "ipod touch 2.0" switch on a server is switched to off. "that's odd" he says as he flips it back on to the delight of the country

Can I imagine that with you? Or do you own the rights to that fantasy?

;)

Lol, someone needs to make a comic on that!

I'll take my royalties in the form of app donations thank you very much.

It's crazy lightning here in Chicago. It's like a frankenstein type thing bringing my ipod touch to life again

Crazy lightning indeed. The thunder was actually shaking my house yesterday.

I gave up at 02:00 last night (well, this morning I guess), then woke up this morning like an excited kid at Christmas...and now I find that Apple has got its ass in gear, I'm crazy happy. Best morning ever! :D

Now I can finally use the £20 of App Store software I bought yesterday. Impatient, me? Well, maybe just a little.

plugged the touch in - iTunes says there is a new software, bought it, backed up, installed, works. 20min :)

Works good so far! But scrolling through mails is sluggish and not smooth  Any idea?

I'm relatively certain that skipping tracks from the now playing screen is slower than 1.1.4...which sort of annoys me..but I guess I can wait for the next update...beggers can't be choosers.

I love the Chinese handwriting recognition! It's fun drawing the characters on the screen and seeing whether the iPod knows what the heck you're trying to draw. :D

Verifying iPod Software!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::D:D:D:D

this is a very exciting process especially after waiting 12+ hrs

Did it really take 12 hours to run the validation? I am having so much trouble with this stage of "Verifying iPod Software" it has been running for hours and nothing is changing

It takes a screenshot.

Which then shows up in iPhoto as a camera roll (surprising to see for this iPod Touch owner) :D

2.0 is nice so far, lots of apps installed (this was a 1.1.1 iPod Touch when I bought it in September/October) but I'll probably go back to 1.1.4 with the jailbreak - there's just not enough useful free apps on the App Store compared to what's available from the jailbreak community.
