after 2.1 update, genius on the ipod touch says that genius playlist are not enabled and to use itunes to enable them. but how? genius is on in itunes.

Does anyone know of a way to run the update with iTunes backing up my iPod first? Mine has been backing up for about half an hour now and its less than half way through

Syncing my iPod touch again made genius appear. After you sync, you'll see a green indicator in iTunes showing how much MBs of apps you have.

I noticed Installing apps is much faster, and now preserves the location of updated apps. Also, when updating three or four apps I just had to type in my password once.

I keep getting this error after I try to sync with the 2.1 firmware that I got from the Gizmodo link

Does anyone know what this means?

I got that error after updating through iTunes (not gizmodo). I fixed it by cancelling the sync on my iPod then disconnecting it. Quit itunes then reconnected. This time it completed the sync correctly. Had to sync again to enable genius playlists though.

I'm glad backing up is much faster, you can also disable sounds for specific functions instead of one global switch.

Oh thanks! It's working now.

Figured I would give itunes one more try before going with the Gizmodo link andwhat do you know it worked. Maybe this will hold me for a while before I buy the new touch. I really want a speaker and the Nike+ To bad there is no GPS

anyone having any issues after the 2.1 upgrade with exchange? I can't retrieve my email or see my calendar anymore, I get a "Cannot Get Mail - The connection to the server failed".
I can access everything just fine on my computer.

Up now

after a few unsuccesfull trys, it appears to be up now

or at least for me it was  :apple:

My favorite new feature is pretty small, but significant I think. Instead of just marking new and played podcasts, their are now three states, new, unfinished, and completed. A full blue dot denotes completed, a half filled in dot uncompleted, and no dot for finished. Unfinished podcasts even show the amount of time remaining. I listen to a bunch of podcasts, so this is really neat IMHO. I just wish iTunes had this as well.

brightness change possible now directly in video playing mode?

Hi, could anyone tell me if after the upgrade to 2.1 it is now possible for 1st gen iPod Touch to change brightness directly when in video playing mode (like you can with iPod 5th gen and later).

That would be the only reason for me to upgrade.

Thanks in advance for your help on this.
