I never knew touch screens also had this problem. Interesting!

ALL LCDs will do this if pressure is applied and whatever material is covering it is even slightly flexible. It has nothing to do with the fact that it's a touch screen.

We actually have a Woogie on the way, since there aren't really any cases out for the 4G iPod Touch at the moment.

Her iPhone 3G was just inside an InCase Slider and it was in perfect condition when we sold it. She was pretty good with it, and hopefully will continue to treat the iPod Touch the same.

But yeah, Woogie looks awesome.

Cool. I just saw it earlier today and thought it would be great to get one for my 2-yo grandson.

She's 2 and a half and really knows how to work it, for real. She knows how to play her movies and is very discriminate about which one she wants to watch. And if she gets tired of watching movies she plays her games, which has really helped to develop her coordination and touch, as well as help to identify shapes and colors.

I was hesitant at first, but really I think it has helped her to grasp technology at an early age. She knows it's her iPod and doesn't mess with mommy's or daddy's as a result, which is a good thing.

The greatest thing about the iPod Touch is now she can facetime with her Grandmother in England. Just have to keep her from facetiming when it's 1AM over there.

I totally agree with you. Smartphones/ iPod touches/ tablets have great educational potential for young children, so it shouldn't be wasted by denying them until they get older. Teach them young.

Today I noticed that the new iPod Touch is susceptible to warping and distortion when pressing firmly on the screen. I put together a little video demonstrating the problem and how it's unique to the 4G iPod Touch.

It's because the screen is now so closely fused to the glass, and the glass itself is less stronger than previous generation. Again, it's the Apple's reducing production costs even more...

I tried this and you really have to be pressing really hard for it to happen on my unit. It happens on the 2G version also, again if you press really hard.

Maybe, but as shown on the YT video, it's more likely to happen in the new touch, than iPhone4 or previous gen touch.

It's also not a "problem". LCD is a LIQUID crystal display, thus you see the "water" effect as a result of the liquid being disturbed.

Assumes facts not in evidence.

Also, don't mash it like that people. Seriously, are people on this forum 2 years old or something? Oh, wait, even 2 year olds can use it without doing that. Maybe we have some 1 year olds on the forum.

Also news: If you mouth it and drool all over it, you may cause problems. Also, if you throw it repeatedly against the floor, you might break it. Really people.

Please don't lie or do not post before reading the first post (inc. provided video ). Author of this thread actually gave a YT link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPtwGfzchA8 with clear evidence that touch4 has the weakest screen glass of all the iOS devices he tested, and he tested touch4, touch 2/3gen, and the iPhone4.

Nope. First of all, you can't link this definitively to the strength of the glass. It may have to do with the bonding between the glass and the screen (they weren't directly bonded in prior touches), or the screen itself (totally different panels in the two models with screens that are bonded as you yourself have helpfully pointed out).

Second, and more importantly, you said:

You have given no evidence it's more likely to happen because there IS no evidence it's more likely to actually happen outside of someone sitting on a youtube video pressing absurdly hard. As I said, even a 2 year old apparently has enough motor control to use an ipod touch without this "problem" occurring.

This is just more pointless carping that has only a tenuous grip to actual use. I can't even try this one out because I'm not willing to press on the screen THAT HARD. Don't store your ipod touch loose with an icepick is my suggestion. Your toilet tank is also a bad place to store one.

YOU need to get a grip. the touch is fine, except for use by paranoid-anal-perfectionists of epic proportions who won't be happy with ANYTHING. You must drive those around you, CRAZY!!

The 8GB touch is a killer pocket PC. I have several friends at work who bought last year's 8GB version for use on the job. They downloaded job related software and references and use it constantly at work. You can't beat that functionality for the price.

Of course, YT vid is only testing done by one person, but it doesn't change the fact it's something worth a thought. That video is better proof than any talking here by you or me. I'm not saying we have a 100% proof, but I think it may be true that glass in the new touch is weaker and screen can be pressed much easier than on previous gens of that device. iFixit teardown actually somewhat proved it by showing that in new touch, screen is fused to the glass very closely, much closer than it was situated in previous gens. That might give us a worthy point. Of course more people have to test it and we all see how much is it of a problem.

yup. remember when Jobs announced the very FIRST touch? he proclaimed it to be the "funnest iPod yet". can't argue with that!

are you serious burg calling people 2 year olds?! the dude that made the video is showing how the ipod/iphones devices compare with the same amount of pressure placed on them!!(he isnt saying try this your selfs because the thing is busted and he is going to go and return it for a new one or throwing a fit about it). to me looks as if mr borg has experience with many idevices so he knows what he is talking about, and he also clearly demonstrates it in his video.
