yeah but usually apple puts the features of the iPhone to the iPod touch.but actually nobody knows until the event
They typically put the more basic features in the touch as they do the iPhone. But not all, and I doubt the iPhone will get a bigger screen either. And some people know before the event, just not a large number.

i think it will have a bigger display. Is time for the iPhone and ipod touch to get a bigger one.People has asked many times for a bigger display and apple will put it,they may be think that if they don't people wont buy the new one

That's why they have the iPad. And I doubt that just because they don't get a larger screen means they won't upgrade similar to if they would if they did get a bigger screen.

I wouldn't mind a bigger screen but my 4th gen iPod touch has a case on it and it's still slim.

Not necessarily. Screen size may be a good way to give the iPhone an advantage over the touch.
But it would introduce yet another screen resolution to their lineup. Unless the left the res alone while increasing the screen size, but that would take away from the retina-ness of it, making it less crisp.

If the new iPod is thicker, I will definitely be happy. The iPod Touch 4th Gen is so thin, it is uncomfortable to hold, even with a TPU case on it.

And if they get rid of the chrome backing, I will rejoice!

oh yes i also want them to remove this chrome back.i just use a case for that.i would like the back to be like the iPad 2,just my dream

Yes, I find it ridiculous that we are forced to keep the back wrapped at all times if we want it to remain in new condition. I literally placed the TPU case on the iPod Touch the moment I removed it from the original packaging.

me too!!!why apple keep releasing ipod touches with this f***ng(sorry for that) back.I don't want anymore to have a case or keep thinking if it's ok or if it's scratched. My uncle's iPad 2 has not a case and is like new.that's what i want from the new ipod touch, please apple :D:apple:

All the rumors floating around lead to the same conclusion.

Without a doubt the iPod touch 5th Gen will be much more slimmer and will come with a bigger screen like the iPhone 5.

Hello:

Which rumors are you referring to? I might have missed some great rumors, I'd like to read them. :)

Below is basically rehash of what I read here on MacRumors and other sites and links to recent articles, to support my opinions. :D

• On slimmer…

On MacRumors and other Apple oriented sites, there been little new rumors on the features of the iPod touch. Possible 3G connectivity was the last big feature raised. Although I'd love to see this, I wouldn't be surprised if it does not happen. It would be difficult to do this and make the iPod touch thinner. There's talk of a cheaper iPhone to replace the iPod touch as well. It might happen, but I feel the iPod touch still has a large demand base that Apple will not discontinue it, yet. So to me, more likely they'll have a cheaper iPhone as an addition, not a replacement of the iPod touch. This has been discussed in other threads here on MacRumors.

• On larger screen size…

The iPhone redesign is rumored to included an edge-to-edge screen which is slightly bigger. It's possible Apple would try to keep some feature parity between the new iPhone and the new iPod touch. But I haven't read reports/rumors that this will also come to the updated iPod touch.

• Latest iPod touch rumor I recall…

Most recent iPod touch tidbit I read was about the white face plate:
"Apple Planning to Introduce White iPod Touch Later This Year?"
https://www.macrumors.com/2011/07/22/apple-planning-to-introduce-white-ipod-touch-later-this-year/
In addition to the white front plate, the source claimed "The forthcoming fifth-generation iPod touch is said to otherwise be nearly identical to the current version."

So I think the most recent rumors that I've read here don't say anything about slimmer and bigger screen this year. Most of the rumors have been about the iPhone rather than the iPod touch, therefore it's difficult to be more definite than stating hopes and likelihoods based on speculation and rumors.

• About that iPod camera…

News item posted a few weeks ago here:
"Omnivision Announces 20% Thinner 8-MegaPixel Camera Sensor for Use in Smartphones"
https://www.macrumors.com/2011/08/0...gapixel-camera-sensor-for-use-in-smartphones/

But that's more likely in an iPhone next year (thickness and also feature progression/evolution), as mass production not expected until Q1 2012.

It's possible if they also go to a "teardrop" or sloped back (thicker top thinner bottom like the rumored redesigned iPhone) so that they can fit a better camera in a future iPod touch. According to iFixit the iPod touch 4Gen's back camera is 6.5 mm squared x 3.3 mm in depth. Seems like the Omnivision 8MP is 4.7mm (down from 6.5mm-ish). Perhaps they can make a lower resolution 3MP or 5MP camera that'll fit the current iPod touch dimensions.

Again, if I've missed some nice juicy rumors and news, please point me to the links to read. Much appreciated. :D

Oh, add me to list of people wanting a non-shiney non-scratch-magnet back on the new iPod touch!

Cheers. :)

Probably because of the whole keynote thing.

yep,i just think that maybe is the end of the iPod touch :( an that's why we on't hear anything,or just because the iPhone wasn't release in the keynote an everyone is talking about the iPhone

Like I said before, the discontinuing of a small touch device from Apple all together would mean major sales loss (maybe not as much as iPhone, but still considerable).

yeah but they will maybe replace it wit cheap iPhones, an i wouldn't like it.It's better to say i have an iPod touch instead of i have a Cheap iPhone lol .but i still think that they won't stop it.It's the 50% sales to the ipod line!!!and they have things to improve

I'm not saying the iPod touch is going away this year, but there is some valid points there.

Anyone with a smartphone and an iPod touch has some tech redundancy in their pockets. There is overlap there. Maybe they have both because their smartphone isn't that great, a few years behind or whatever. But the more technology advances, the littler room there will be for an iPod touch. For example, even prepaid carriers like Virgin Mobile now have android phones with specs comparable to the iPod touch, but with better cameras, and bigger screens. For the same price or even less than an iPod touch. With monthly plans as low as $35 with unlimited data. This sort of stuff will render the touch extinct in not too much time.

I'm on Virgin Mobile and there's a very good chance my next Android purchase will completely take the place of my 4th gen iPod touch. It simply doesn't have the market it used to have with smartphones getting better and better and plans getting cheaper.

A common iPhone alternative was an iPod touch along with a cheap (often prepaid) dumbphone. But now it's getting just as cheap to go prepaid Android.

Apple would be wise to morph their iPod touch into an actual smartphone, just not sure how they make a "cheap" iPhone without cheapening the status of the iPhone brand. Apple has always been stuck between sustaining it's "elite" status while simultaneously selling itself as an everyman's company.

Slimmer - hope so!

"it's too slim now for me to hold" lol

Please, eventually they'll be as thin as a credit card (a good thing)

Apple better not make it thinner... It's so hard to hold in my hands... Now a bigger screen however will be a big plus! Not more squinting at the screen!

Agreed. This thinness BS has got to stop. I could see it if there was a NEED for a thinner devices because current devices were uncomfortably thick, but they're just doing it because they can.
