This is what I would like:

128 gb. but if they were to offer 256 gb, I'd buy it, regardless if it tacked on another couple of hundred bucks. Then I could finally hold all my music, games,and regular apps in one place.

Better camera. Add the flash, and more mega pixels.

Better battery life. Make the damn thing thicker, use all the space for battery life. I can hardly hold the darn thing at times it's so thin, I have to keep it in a case just to use it. Super frustrating.

Otherwise, I can't really think of anything that needs upgrading other then (as always) more ram and/or cpu speed. But to be honest, I find it really great in those areas already.

Thank you everyone for participating. All your thoughts are valuable.

Keep them coming - at least until the end of May. At that time I will be contacting Apple and giving them this thread as consumer feedback. That leaves enough time for marketing and engineering to take this into account before they launch the iPT5G in September or so.

We know they can't give us every wish, but it will put in their mind what it is that's most called for from users. We are a random group, and that's valuable data for Apple's team.

iPhone like aluminum black back
Oleophobic screen
16 GB base model
At least a 2MP camera
AM/FM radio tuner
A5 processor + 512 mb RAM

Seems just right, not too much to ask for but it is enough of a change for a new generation of itouch

Flash, mmm. apple always bash flash of iOS. I dont think they will EVER do that.

I think he meant a flash for the camera like the iPhone has. That's most likely a good idea, basically put the iPhone 4's camera in the touch when the technology gets advanced enough to make it cheaper and as thin(if not more so) then it currently it is.

Really going out on a limb there.. Don't get your hopes up for ANY of those.

You think? Choice of Black and White doesn't seem to radical, nor does the 120GBs(most likely it will be 128GBs).

If I recall the touch has 2 32GB chips, so I'm not sure what the price of 64GB chips are today, but hopefully they are widely available and cheaper enough for Apple to put two of them into the touch(and 1 into the iPhone, so we have a 64GB model of that)

This is what I think the 5G touch will have:

A5 Dual Core Chip at either 800MHz or same clock rate as iPad
512MB RAM (Needed)
Same size screen with same resolution (small chance it will go up to 4.0")
Redesign
Better back camera (3MP or above)
16GB - base model, 32GB, 64GB
Same prices

Some things about which you are mistaken:

Apple is not going to wait until May to figure out what they are doing with the next iPod; it's not enough time to change their plans, especially to accommodate the things suggested in this thread.

Apple is not going to care about what you send them. They pay people full-time to think about these things. Everything suggested has already been thought of and evaluated. They will not change their plans because of an e-mail from somedude@email.com.

This group is not random in the least (lmao). You should learn what selection bias is.

Here's an easy one, Apple. Quick software tweak... Enable crossfade. If you can do it on a nano, you should be able to do it on a touch.

For sure, a real camera is needed. I would have upgraded in a heartbeat had they put one on the IPT 4G. As it is, I'm languishing back with a 2G and avoiding iOS 4, too, to preserve battery life.

Now, if we're going sci-fi, let's have a clamshell, foldable device, with two screens, or screen/keyboard options.

Most of all, though, give us some solid, aesthetically pleasing, full-feature PIM programs (to-do, calendar, etc.). I don't understand why Apple doesn't update the look of that ridiculous 19th century roll wheel date picker--or why there's no ability to snooze an alert that pops up?

Hoping for an OLED type display, I think that is likely. Top on my list of wishes.
Hoping for the new A5 chip with dual core graphics and 512MB ram.
Hoping for a Phat Touch. Something under 6 inches is rumored for the Fall. That would give a bigger screen for reading and gaming and still be pocketable. It would hold a larger battery too then.
Hoping for GPS but that is probably not likely. I bought a GPS plugin module so I can use it on my iPad and Touch and not have to wait on Apple to give me what I want.
I think that Apple is already using a Gorilla Glass type product. I saw how they made the iPad screen glass very flexible and impact resistant.

Would like to see a dedicated analog direction button for games. I don't like the virtual d-pad in games, there is no feel to them & your finger takes up screen real estate.

And so you don't accidently hit the home button to exit a game, make it that you have to hit say the power button & home button to exit a game.

the RAM issue

I think you will see the improvements in RAM you talked about if Apple bothers to make the move to the A5 chip which it probably will. You won't see a 128GB model yet, the price of the flash memory would be too high to make sense for apple AND I don't really see that many people wanting it - if you want space buy the HDD model and get a classic.

No way we will see a GPS chip but vibrating alert maybe and finally the back of the iPod touch is already aluminium isn't it? I thought it was part of Apple's green drive to make everything aluminium?

I'm reasonably excited about the prospects for a 5th Gen iPod Touch. The rumors of a larger version and the carbon fiber case rumors are both possible for this Fall. The A4 in the Touch was a big improvement but the A5 will be an even bigger jump in gaming power. I think Apple is planning on really making the Touch a killer game platform in the next gen. I still have my Gen 1 Touch but I'm going to finally replace it with the Gen 5 when it comes out this Fall. I replaced my iPad 1 with the Gen 2 and just got rid of my shuffle for the new iPod nano so I'm becoming an Apple regular "cough Fanboy cough". No shame in that. :)
PS I just ran across this blog post which I found encouraging. Ive said it before that a 6 inch Touch would be a killer gaming platform and would wipe out the 7 inch android tablets.

:apple:Increased capacity! ("64" gigs too small at times with TV shows and movies, but 64 is probably enough for most people)
:apple:FREE 4G! (joke.)
:apple:Improved camera. I heard it was a .7 megapixel? It just sucks. Whenever you zoom in, it just looks like you're zooming in on a really small picture--the quality gets worse and worse as you zoom.
:apple:The design is terrible. Without my leather case, it slips out of my hands literally every 30 seconds. It is impossible to hold. But I don't care so much 'cause of my cheap-o leather case that adds more bulk to it, but for those without cases...I'm sure they'd prefer a more iPhone 4-like body...
:apple:I would say more RAM, but I found apps that allow sufficient running of everything I need so it's good. (Even though I'm sure they'll add the A5 chip anyway)

Definite:
- Better camera - at least 3mp;
- More RAM - 512mb;
- A5;
- Better graphics card.

Possible:
- Camera - 5mp;
- Video - 1080p;
- Camera - Larger sensor with flash;
- More storage - 128gb.

Dependent:

- 4inch screen - dependent on the iPhone;
- 128gb - if the iPhone 5 doubles in storage, then the iPod Touch probably will as well;
- GPS - dependent if there's a 3G chip (which there won't);
-FM Radio - dependent on the iPhone and iOS 5, as the iPod Touch 2G and above has a FM Radio - it's just disabled.

Unlikely:
- 3D no glasses;
- 3G / 4G.

Nobody mentioned a mini USB or SD slot. I'd be nice to have memory upgrade without having to purchase a new device, as well as that would open it up for so many other devices.

As far as the screen goes, I think it's really impressive resolution right now. The camera, yea it sucks, I've got a $19 2 year old phone that has a better camera. I'm sure they'll upgrade the camera.

Just wait and see
