I saw that Boost Mobile is selling a 128gb SE for $199. Anyone thought about buying one and simply not activating it?
Can I get away with that?
I've seen that myself but some fine print at the bottom of the page is causing me some hesitation.

Purchased devices must be activated by 04/15/2018, with at least one payment for one month of service completed to receive account credit; credit applied within four weeks of first month’s payment.

It almost sounds like you'd have to pay more upfront and then you get a billing credit for your monthly services. I've asked in another post but haven't gotten a response yet. I can't seem to find contact info for Boost if you're not already a customer so I'm somewhat stuck on this. I'm not committed to it because I'd rather not get too excited about it and find it costs more than I expected. I did try to go through the purchase without actually finishing the order and it did seem to be 200 plus tax but that fine print has me worried that you might be authorizing them to charge you later if you don't activate. I'm paranoid like that.

As far as actually using a new phone as an ipod goes, yes it's no problem. You only need the sim inserted when you first turn on the phone and at no point do you need to active service. You'll get a reminder when you restart the phone that you have no service but that's easily ignored.

Is the Ipod touch generation 6 worth getting in 2018? Im looking to use the ipod as a mini tablet and was wondering if it able to run all the everyday apps like facebook, twitter and so on with out slow down or freezing with a few games in there to, will the IPOD 6 be obsolete in a few months or can i get it without worring about slow down on apps.

Apple is hinting at releasing a 7th generation touch, supposedly this or next summer.

You know, all I want is the ability to sync my audiobook playlists. I listen to a lot of single/double/quadruple CD radio plays that I have meticulously organized and upgraded over the years into m4b files and the move in ios 8 of audiobooks from the music app to the ibooks app was really frustrating. I've been using a combination of older devices but it would be so nice to have one device with enough storage to hold the entire collection in the grouping of my choice. Synced playlists. Seems odd to long for something so basic.

Getting an iPod Touch 7 means we're still on track to get an iPod Touch X! :apple:
You know, that would be pretty awesome! Listen to music on your nearly-bezeless screen... use Face ID to log in... use the SCREEN for your HOME BUTTON (it may be X, but it still has a few flaws). That would be cool, though.

256GB would be awesome for am iPod Touch - still I'd worry about the battery unless they made it fatter somehow which would detract from its appeal in my opinion.

I'd love a 256gb ipod. Lots of room to expand. Is the battery a big issue though if you're only using it for music. I've repeatedly read that the 6th gen touch's battery doesn't last as long as the 5th gen but I always assumed that was for games. Does anyone know how they compare if you're only listening to music, either via headphone or Bluetooth?

I hear the IpT6 battery capacity and use time is shorter. Period. If you play games, the IpT6 is STILL shorter. If you use your IpT6 for music and Ipt5 for gaming... then, I'm not so sure.

Whatever they do the next iPod touch should get at least a 3,000 mah battery. The current 1,043 mah battery is just too small. If they need to make it as thick as an iPhone (or thicker), then so be it.

Alas, I doubt they will update the iPod touch ever again, but they surprised me once before when they released the 6.

ASIDE - all three of my kids have iPod touch 6es. The small battery does have one nice benefit. I limit the kids to one full charge on each weekend day. They've quickly learned how to conserve battery to maximize usage. This will help them later in life ... haha. Also, it ensures that they aren't staring at their iPod all day long on the weekend and that they get some exercise.
That's very sensible of you and your kids may well thank you later on.

I support over 250 iPods at work. Dialed out with Apple DEP and MDM in place, they have been a magic tool for our Trades & Engineering teams. I couldn't never get the funding to pay for monthly phone bills, but a one time $199 was something management could stomach. Connecting all of these employees who don't historically embrace technology has been awesome.

Problem is, as of late, that small form factor has lost its luster. I actually love the size, for it's less likely to be cracked than a bigger screen, but nonetheless... I'm feeling pressure to upgrade our fleet of iPods to a larger screen device. Even more so, I'm feeling the after shock of the Apple processor slow down fiasco. Whether it affects the iPod Gen 6 or not, the impression by our employees is that Apple is trying to take advantage of the working class by obsoleting perfectly good devices each year, and so it's been an uphill battle to keep our staff using Apple. Being taxpayer money, I need a wifi device that can last 3+ years, and to my surprise, the devices really last. I have iPod Gen 3's that still run. The iPad Mini is way too big, and I can't justify buying iPhone 6S devices at triple the price, just to use in Airplane mode. I'd be super thankful if Apple released an iPhone 7/8 form factor iPod before the summer. Our Fiscal Year starts in July, and I am looking to buy 400 devices. Hopefully, they'll be Apple devices, because I truly don't want to remake 100 training videos showing how to do daily tasks in Android.

I don’t know what sort of specs you need for these devices, but have you ever looked at prepaid phones? Straight talk offers the iPhone 6 in 32gb for 200. You never need to activate them as phones.

I got one last year through them and use it for music all the time.

I’d like to see a iPod/iPad Touch with a larger screen and at least 64GB of storage. So more like a pocket sized iPad Mini. I don’t see Apple selling it too much longer without some sort of update.

Things have changed... I haven't touched my Ipod Touch 5 in 4 months. I play more games on my Ipad since that's at ios8 (instead of ios9). I still use an Ipod Classic for music. I wouldn't mind either leaving the iOS ecosystem, or just not investing anymore into it (and just stick with playing my existing backlog of games). This would free me up to get into Nintendo handhelds.

i was debating about getting ipod touch 6g or not and bit the bullet. it is the dedicated device for a work environment where i want to have my music with me and phone discharges unreasonably fast/do not have enough power for headphones/too bulky.

128g version for 330$~ including tax in Singapore? oh well... not sure how people could compare it with iphones.
ipod touch is much lighter and much more limited then iphones, have better output through 3.5 jack, output seems to be cleaner then with iphones (even with bluetooth/wifi on) - i tried with westone w60 and shure se846.

i left ipod over night playing music. 10h+ of itunes lossless music playback on maximum volume to external amplifier (aune b1s) and i have had 80%~ battery left (i plug it to a charger to see the status, not sure how accurate it is).

battery depletes very fast with screen or wifi/bluetooth on... but it lasts like there is no tomorrow if all you do is just play music.

would gladly get ipod classic but it is PITA searching through second hand market and then replacing outer parts, battery, upgrading storage... and that 30pin connector? i might do that tho, but much later.

what is good about ipod touch 6g in 2018?
- very freaking light. exceptionally when iphones gained some weight.
- iphones got rid of 3.5 jack and many manufacturers got a green light making lightning dac+amp combos for iDevices... and ipod touch as dedicated device wins here again - very nice system to be used as transport.

i would probably get fiio q1 mk2 next + lightning dock :)

i would get a new ipod touch on a day1 if apple ever decided to release it.

I would add that the iPod Touch serves very well as a lightweight, slim camera, which is the main reason I have one. On one charge I can get roughly 100-150 images including videos. I take it on hikes and yesterday took it to the Denver Art Museum. My camera outings are usually 2- 3 hours long, at which point I get the "low charge" warning.

Personally, with so many people now having gone through several iterations of iPhones with many using their older versions as back-ups, as music players, etc, I just don't see a new generation of the iPod Touch on the horizon.

So I'm probably going to get one brand new as a music holder (32GB enough for me) great companion for long bike rides etc. How actually is the battery life? At least for those people who recently got it.. in terms of usage/standby. Back when i got my iP7 in december (didn't really need the 8) a ton of people always said it had bad battery life but for me to this day the battery is awesome still getting 6+ hours of usage constantly and dat standby;)

That is overall the better option as well as the SE but stores often have messed up stocks.
