Battery life on my gold 32GB seems to be very good - down to around 50% with a fair amount of usage.
That is pretty close to what I'm experiencing as well. I had a chance to give it a workout over the last few days on a trip. I HAVE noticed however that battery life greatly depends upon the activity. Audio playback seems to go on forever, but some other activities are a bit more power hungry. That's always been the case but it seems to be more so with the iPT6. That could explain the wide discrepancy in battery life being reported.

Oh, in another thread I was concerned about the speed of taking photos with the iPT6 vs iPT4. No worries, it is as fast as my iPT4. (I noticed serious lag on my iPhone 4 that I used as an iPod)

If you are use airplay or anything with the screen off it will last a long time, once that screen is in use, goodbye battery even on 50% brightness

my iPod touch 6 gen 64gb only lasted 4 hours with just audio playback and 2 hours with web usage.had the lasted iOS 8.4.1 on it.took it back this morning

We returned his iPod and bought a new one, but the battery seems to be the same, even with low luminosity, airplane mode, app disactivated in the background, etc. That's really disappointing because it's a terrific device besides that. But it just had a charge yet, so I hope it will be better after some time.

My battery life is terrible. Half an hour of video, taking some pictures, playing with them a bit, Twitter, Facebook, 2 hours of music and I'm down to 20%. My previous 2 1/2 half years old 5G one is still holding his charge better. Really disappointing.

This is really disappointing. I would of bought the 16gb gold one at Best Buy yesterday but it wasn't in stock. I'll make sure to put it through the ringer before my return date passes.

With minimal screen interaction and brightness fairly low, I used to get just over 30 hours of battery life with my 5th gen touch with Bluetooth on. I think I also bought a dud sixth gen touch as well, since after four hours it went down to 70% with the same usage.

Wifi and Bluetooth off. Screen brightness down to 25%. Under 3 hours of use.

Love it when it is working (when it is plugged in and charging), but this iPod touch is going back. Just not fit for real-world use.

Wow. Sorry to hear so many incidents of poor battery life. :( I'm quite impressed with my 32GB Blue iPT6. Battery life has been fine.

I wonder if there is a common thread... what version of iOS are you all running?
I'm on 8.4.1

Tried it on 8.4.1 and iOS 9 Beta. Equally poor battery life. Great functionality, but let down horribly by its battery.

My battery life has been awesome - I couldn't really ask for more...and I definitely wouldn't want a fatter device with a bigger battery.

I would be more interested to see what the battery model / battery manufacturer / battery serial number is in all the Touch 6 that have poor battery life. Unfortunately, there is no way of finding that out.

Turn off background app refresh and battery life id good. The most awesome thing is the charging time is unbelievably super fast. Take a shower, eat some breakfast, chit chat with wife a little bit. It's full.

I thought it might be a software issue so I also installed the iOS9 Beta (which has improved battery on my iPhone 5c) and still the same result. The battery life is terrible on my touch. After nearly five hours with minimal screen interaction and Bluetooth on it's at 50%.

Likewise my IPT 6 battery life has been very satisfactory, much better than previous iPod Touch models I've owned. I recall an old IPT dying after 50 minutes filming a video, but my IPT 6 filmed for an hour and still had 50% charge remaining. I'm also glad that the maximum speaker volume seems much louder. Great little device all around.

Ten hours use with continual Bluetooth drain doesn't sound that bad to me. Maybe my expectations were lower having experienced much wimpier battery life in older versions.

After a backup and restore to my computer, the battery life is excellent now.

This was mine at the end of the first charge cycle. Nothing impressive, but it at least beats my dying 5S.

I bought my 6th gen at launch but have only really begun to put it to serious use this week..... my battery life is absolutely dreadful, even though I was watching video & listening to Apple Music using bluetooth heaphones I still thought it was pretty poor, a couple of hours and it was ready to charge. doesn't bode well for use as a travelling entertainment device.

I think that maybe a few here did not read up on what the given figures are measured from.
XXh of "music" and "video" is measured from stored files.

If you are streaming then it´s a different story.

When my iPhone 5c was brand new it lasted about 4-5h from 100% to dead with Spotify.
While playing mp3s for 4h took some odd 1-digit % away from the battery..

Netflix is not "video" it´s internet+video+decoding so expect 1/4-1/3 of the quoted number for "video".

There is also a lot of difference in using safari to read articles and to watch youtube..
I can read articles on my MBP for longer than I ever would want or need to in a day, but as soon as I enter the world of Youtube then the % drop by the minute..

Not saying all your devices are perfect, just that you might want to check how well they handle the quoted stuff before you assume it´s broken. If it delivers on those figures then maybe it´s just not the right device for your needs :)

Still, just playing local music seems to drain roughly twice as much battery as it did on my old 5th gen. The A8 probably drains more power than the A5 does in their respective lowest power mode.

They still claim 40 hours of audio playback, but after three weeks of daily usage for 1-3 hours I can safely say that this is impossible to achieve.

Likewise, I wasn't getting the battery life I wanted and it turned very poor after loading IOS 9. I then followed the advice of backing up my Touch 6 and doing a restore. My battery life looks much better now and I highly recommend backing up and restoring your Touch 6 if you are getting poor battery life.
