Put it in DFU mode and then try again.

I did this and it worked... eventually

I had this same problem with frozen restore screen. Tried all these suggestions and none worked. Then I tried this and exactly this:

Step 1. Turn off your iPhone/iPod (or if frozen hold power and home buttons to reboot).

Step 2. Hold down the power and home button.

Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down.

Step 4. Open iTunes immediately. You should then be prompted to plug your iPhone/iPod into iTunes. Do this if you haven't already got it connected.

Step 5. iTunes will then tell you that it needs to restore this iPhone/iPod. Agree to this and hit the restore button in iTunes. iTunes will download the restore package and install it.

Step 6. Now this failed for me at this point. It got about halfway through the install and then I got a message saying the iPod could not be restored and iTunes gave me a big massive error details thing in Textedit. However, I switched my computer off and on and tried these exact steps again. This time it worked fine. iPod restored and latest OS installed.

Give it a go.

By the way, not my fix. Got the idea here. There's a few other things you could try here

I tried doing this but it still doesn't work.

My ipod had been freezing for about a month, ever since I first connected it to wifi. Then it just stopped turning on once the battery died. Now it just freezes on the logo and doesn't charge. Plus if I leave it on the back starts getting really hot, I don't think this is normal.

Ipod touch 16gb jailbroken NOT WORKING due to cursed apple screen -.-

My Ipod Touch (jailbroken) has the same problem. it was working perfectly until it died one day. when itried to recharge it, the apple sign appeared and hasnt gone away since T.T itried the suggested "treatment" with the recovery mode but its saying that my ipod is not eligible for the requested build!! any new treatment would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem with the ipod stuck on apple logo with loading circle.
It happened after i erased all data and settings on ipod..
the beforementioned approaches dont work.
itunes doesnt see the ipod at all. (neither does the computer)

I just sold it and now im screwed!!
Can someone please help!

4: YOUR COMPUTER WILL MAKE A "CHIME" SOUND AND THEN THE IPOD WILL SHOW THE LOCKED SCREEN WITH THE BATTERY LOGO...

It's not as pleasant as a chime...and it's your iPod that makes the sound.

By the way, if you want to know what killed mine, it was The FreeAppADay Gold App(which I actually find useless).

still not working

My ipod touch has done this many times!!!!

THE SOLUTION

1: PLUG YOUR IPOD INTO YOUR COMPUTER!!!

2: HOLD THE "HOLD" AND THE "MENU" BUTTON UNTIL THE TOUCH'S SCREEN GOES BLACK AND SHOWS THE APPLE LOGO AGAIN THEN RELEASE THE BUTTONS!!!

3: WAIT ABOUT 5-15 MINUTES!!!

4: YOUR COMPUTER WILL MAKE A "CHIME" SOUND AND THEN THE IPOD WILL SHOW THE LOCKED SCREEN WITH THE BATTERY LOGO...

This works every time for me when my ipod crashes, the screen is stuck on the apple logo or if the screen goes white...

Hope this helps

I tried this and it didnt work. No matter how many times I've tried it, it just goes back to the apple icon. Any suggestions on how to fix it or should I take it to the apple store?

My ipod touch crashed like this 12 months ago. It was only this thread, already a very old one, that sorted out the problem. Lets keep it or make it a sticky

So can you shut down your iPod? if you can just shut down your iPod, and connect with iTunes, hold on Home and Power till iTunes tell you there is an unknow device need to be restore. But it just my persional experience, my iPod Touch 4g became to :apple: and can't shut down. When I hold on Home and button to shut it down, and it will automatically power on, so I used this way to back normal.

@tclift065, this is a normal thing that happens when you jailbreak your iPod Touch and then try to erase all settings. Don't worry because you can fix it!

There are 2 modes you should know about.
-Recovery Mode puts the device in recovery so that you can reflash it with new firmware. But Recovery Mode makes the device boot the OS. Because you had a jailbroken device, you can't do this.
-DFU Mode is like Recovery Mode, but does not require the device to boot the OS first. You can find some instructions here:

Can you tell us if this works for you?

Maybe one of these two procedures will help:

Also, there is a utility called iRecovery which might help:
Recover iPhone 3GS from Apple Logo or Recovery Mode loop | iPhone 3G S
