Mine scratched from dropping it. Yes, it hit some little rocks at the bottom of its journey. but it's so slippery! I am not sure how others have said they have gouged it with keys and knives without a trace of a scratch. Good luck and good screens to all!!! Stay away from silica!!! I still wish the OP would post a pic so I could compare screen damage. how about it? Try 'macro' mode.

I'm going to do that TIFF exploit and purposely make it so iTunes can't sync. I'll BS at the apple store about how it won't sync to try to get an exchange.

Wish me luck..
Make sure to make an audio recording, if it works host the file, that would be worth a laugh. Good luck, I'm sure you can get away with something like that, most places (especially if the employee doesn't know the hardware/software) I'm assuming would buy that.

LOL haha. Right, I'm going to have a recorder throughout the whole thing. I doubt I'd do that, I'm not really that kind of person. I'm just so pissed that I was ABOUT TO get the invisible shield but didn't.

Bah. Now I learned a valuable lesson:

1. Protect your risky valuables
2. You can't buff glass that easy
3. It's a capitalist america
4. THERE IS A VERY FINE LINE BETWEEEN ALMOST DID IT AND DID IT.

I almost got the Invisible shield but I didn't get it.

I'll let you know how it goes

Mine is scratched as well

Mine has a horrid scratch right down the middle!! What to do? Isn't stuff like this covered under the 1 year warranty?

Thanks for any advice!

I went to the apple store and got a replacement. Looks like the TIFF exploit has more than one purpose.

I got a little scratch on the bottom right to

It really sucks even though it is not that noticeable.

I think you're a bit confused. Toothpaste is often used to remove small scratches in plastic because it is mildly abrasive, so sometimes it can be used to polish scratches out. Toothpaste's abrasive properties would definitely not be enough to allow for polishing of glass though.

Leaving it sitting on something isn't going to do anything.

Right on, but what about that stuff that's supposed to polish scratched cd's? Again, probably not abrasive enough.

For what its worth, I too managed to scratch my touch. I had bought an invisible shield when I ordered the touch, but having seen people taking keys to it etc. i never ended up applying it.

Once I managed to scratch it (not sure how, it was just in my pocket), I figured I should at least apply the invisible shield to stop more scratches. After applying the shield I cant see the original scratch at all, so thats a bonus :D

Prob a grain of sand. Since glass is made up of sand (silicon) that and anything that cuts glass (ie. diamonds anyone?) will scratch glass. So mate, you either have a small grain of sand, or a big rock of bling in y our pocket!

To be honest, it doesn't need to be itself or something harder to cut/scratch it. It's also relative to the force that it hits the iPod with.

I'm pretty sure i could scratch it if i wanted to, i just don't want to try.

You can get filler for glass, like they use on car windshields to stop cracks spreading, i wonder whether that may help with the rainbow effect. I don't know if anyone has any experience with this?

gotta love those iPod socks :D had one on my *very* scratchable white 80gig 5.5G since day one, and not A SINGLE visible scratch (although the clickwheel seems to have gotten "unglued" lately - it literally moves around, gotta get it fixed as it is still under warranty). using the same method on my touch (the sock, at all times when in pocket or otherwise not in use). granted it is a pain sometimes 'cause the touch is so damn sexy...

seriously, the socks are pretty much indestructible... you just have to wash them like twice a year to keep them pretty :D IMO well worth the €30 i paid for them (almost 3 years ago).

oh... anyone see the burning-love ipod pouches? they look awesome, although some people say they scratch the the 5/5.5G ipods, but should work perfectly for the touch provided that they make them in the appropriate size.

Sheesh.

Anyone recommend a screen protector then?

I have the iClear case but the screen protector they provided kept filling up with air bubbles. I ditched it all together, just kept the plastic protective case on and clear out my pockets anytime I put my Ipod in.

Seems good so far but I'd hate to scratch such a beautiful surface.

Any recommendations on what screen protector to get? Or if I need one at all?

I bought one off ebay, and I hope to receive it this week.
I will let you know how it goes...

I had the screen protector on it that came with the iClear case that I bought and I had it on the floor and I picked up my phone and it slipped out of my hand and there it was, hit my ipod and lucky didnt scratch the screen but it did do a number on the protector so i had to take it off... now i dont have a protector on it and i worry lol guess i'll have to buy a invisishield or something

I fell on mine from about ten feet. First, though, it feel ten feet onto the concrete.

Took a little chunk out of a corner, but not the viewable area. Also chipped the black border off.

I sanded all the black down and the scratch down to almost invisible. Now it has a very "worn" look, but I think it adds character. It's worn uniformly and cleanly, so it looks like it's just been well used.

I think I should get an invisible shield, though. My last CD player didn't survive my last major fall intact -- hell, I barely did. Almost took a concrete pylon to the boys, ripped my jeans clear in two and gave me one hell of a scar on my chest. Makes for a fantastic story, though :D

sounds a bit dishonest to me

but I could be wrong.

You will do it!

I scratched mine today, put it in the same pocket as a box cutter blade.. pretty dumb move.

One scratch across the middle which will annoy me for as long as I have the device.

Any way to get scratches out of glass?

What the hell do you do? It'd be neat to see this phone. You should post / send pics.... and invest in some good insurance! :D lol

I scratched MY device and it was MY FAULT so I'm going to bitch and moan and then LIE to the company that makes it so I can get a new one, thus doing my part to DRIVE UP total production costs and make these products MORE EXPENSIVE FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

Oh nevermind, I forgot I'm not an a_____e, so I won't be doing that afterall.

I own a fair bit of AAPL, so I feel it's within my rights to hate this guy. Roshie, I hope they figure out what you did and void your warranty.

Re: screen protectors
if you're looking for a good one, id get ExpertShield. its quite thick, non-adhesive and creates no air bubbles. ive tried a really cheap protector before...since it was so thin it made airbubbles like crazy. didnt like the invisibleshield either.

but either way, if you really want to protect from scratches, a screen protector is a must ;)

I agree. Lame.
