I discovered a little scratch in the center of my screen today. No idea what happened I watched all those ipod touch scratch test videos on youtube and figured I wouldn't need a scratch protector. uggg that makes me rather angry. I bought the extended Apple Care though think they might be nice enough to replace it?

I'm going to do that TIFF exploit and purposely make it so iTunes can't sync. I'll BS at the apple store about how it won't sync to try to get an exchange.

Wish me luck..
NO! I do NOT wish you luck. You are cheating.

soo

So for light scratching on the chrome side, anyone recommend anything? I don't mind putting some time and effort in.
My creative/archos touting mate suggested I take some sandpaper to it and go brushed metal. I was not amused. :)

I have an iClear but the screen protector was junk so I trashed.

About to purchase an InvisibleShield now (just the screen protector)

Does the iClear still fit well over this? I've heard varying reports.

I have no clue.. I left it in my pocket and it poof. As for the toothpaste.. yeah it didn't work. Anyone have any ideas to get rid of the rainbow effect? Or do I have to live with it.

I believe you. I have a similar scratch on mine. It's pretty short (a few millimeters) and pretty hard to see when the screen is on; however some videos due create a very noticeable rainbow flickering effect on the scratch.

I don't watch too much video though, so it hasn't bothered me much yet.

I never heard this rumor that that the ipod has a glass top. I'm pretty sure that it does not; glass would be a bad choice because it is so breakable. It's probably some polycarbonate sheet.

Argh!

I was talking about how scratchproof the ipod was, then I scratched it. With my braces. Don't ask how.

I essentially bought it off ebay, and this mother of a scratch isn't going to be easily ignored, right in the middle of the screen. What should I do about this? Put a screen protector over it?

I do wish there was a "scammer" tag that we can add onto right under the person name on the forums. I do wish you luck, on making my wish coming true.

Hey Guys,

I can't recommend a screen protector more. I thought they were tough to scratch then I got out of my car with it on my lap.
It hit the ground screen first and had two tiny (much smaller than a grain of sand) chips in the far left of the screen. barely noticeable.

Anyway, thinking I had got off lucky, I bought a clear case and screen protector the next day.

A day later I found out the hard way what happens when you crack glass. The small chip had spread to a large crack right across the screen. :(

I still consider myself lucky as its still totally usable. If you look at the crack head on it isn't visible. Only when you look at an angle do you see this...

apologies for the bad pic, its taken with a cell phone.

Nothing besides some type of hard case will offer any additional structural support for the glass. Screen protectors WILL help prevent most scratches, but like any product, their purpose is limited within reason.

I scratched MY device and it was MY FAULT so I'm going to bitch and moan and then LIE to the company that makes it so I can get a new one, thus doing my part to DRIVE UP total production costs and make these products MORE EXPENSIVE FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

Oh nevermind, I forgot I'm not an a_____e, so I won't be doing that afterall.

I own a fair bit of AAPL, so I feel it's within my rights to hate this guy. Roshie, I hope they figure out what you did and void your warranty.

What really irks me is that he was able to get a replacement. Three years ago, I purchased a 12" Powerbook, new, from the Apple Store. Out of the box, there were three substantial screen blemishes (similar to the recalled 15" PowerBooks) and over thirty pixels that would not turn completely black. I brought my PowerBook into the Eastview Apple Store five times over the first year of ownership (most within the first 90 days), each time they refused to replace my screen.

They said blemishes and inconsistencies were normal with LCDs and I was "well within Apple's tolerances."

I just am really upset that when I was sold a lemon by the Apple store, they refused to assist me, and when somebody runs an exploit because he scratched his screen, he gets a new iPod.

Whatever, I'm bitter.

but doesn't seem to affect my image quality as you say. luckily my big scratch/chip is off of the lcd area. i really need to be more careful. and stop drinking. I dropped it last night and it landed on dirt with lots of little shards of rock. The first time i dropped it it bounced off a ladder step (dented bezel) and landed screen down in a bubble of sap, but no scratches then and the sap came right off with denatured alcohol

Gotta say, props on the Devotchka song. That is a great song.

don't OCD about this now...

this doesnt affect the function of the ipod touch... i mean, yeah, it kinda sucks, but it still works and you can hardly notice it.

if they can exchange it, fine then, but if not, it's not the end of the world.

So I had my iPod touch in my pocket (nothing else is in there) and I even went through the trouble to clear out all the junk that's in my pocket. To ensure that there's no small particle to scratch my iPod.

I checked my iPod's screen when I went home and boom, a 1 cm scratch that's quite visible (looks like a rainbow). It's very obvious when I watch a video with lots of bright colors but videos with blacks all around are not obvious. It's a scratch, I ran my finger nail through it and I can feel the indent. I cleaned it many times and wiped it many times. It's definitely a scratch.

I bought this iPod not so long ago, I believe the 14 day expiration for returning iPods ends for me this friday. I bought it online but there's a 10% restock fee (which would be around $40 for me). Think I could exchange for a newer one instead?

The irony of this was.. I was thinking of buying the invisible shield but I decided to wait for a case instead. Looks like I'll have to get the invisible shield now.

So could I exchange it for free or do I have to refund it and buy a new one? (Apple online store)

Let me know
Roshie

This happened to me too. I am so mad. I have seen tests on the iphone where they are scratching keys against it and there isn't even the smallest scratch, but on my ipod I have a bunch of little scratches. Some almost invisible but some are pretty visible. I'm going to get the invisible shield but a question for those who have it, Will the scratches still be visible or will it make them harder to see?

Any response would be great, Thanks!

same here.

OMg the exact thing happened to me yesterday. I always make sure to punch my phone and earbuds in a differen pocket but for some reason I got 5 half inch scratches on my screen. They are in different locations but they are all facing the same way as if someone scraped it on cement or something. Luckily only on of the scratches is on the actual screen part but it is still really annoying. I would have gotten a case but I got this touch right when it came out and iskin is barely getting the 2g cases.

I'm annoyed that someone had to be dishonest/fraudulent to get a replacement and then you have the audacity to boast about it here in the forums. So you think there are no Apple employees lurking in here, what a loser!

This only makes it harder for the honest people trying to get Apple service for a genuine manufacturers fault because someone uses a cheap trick/scam to make naive Apple employees believe something that isn't true.

I call out Schnanagans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no respect for people who can't take responsibility for their own actions.

Rainbow scratch

My iPod has these two rainbow colored scratches that are perfectly straight and they bother me because now when I watch videos they are very noticeable and I'm afraid to use it now so I don't get anymore scratches. There's got to be a way to fix this.

InvisibleShield

I bought the invisible shield for my iPhone the day I got it but my brother has an iPhone and he didn't buy a case or anything. He had his a couple months before I got mine. Either way he had light scratches on his screen, thats why I put the protector on my iPhone. He saw my screen protector and went and got the same protector. I put it on for him and you can't even see any of the blemishes or scratches at all. Take for granted they weren't real deep but definitely an eye soarer. We don't like the bulky cases. They really are almost scratch proof. Almost only because if you do go against something sharp like say a knife blade or scissor blade you're not going to like the results. But keys and other things like that you'll be okay.

P.S. Make sure you use a lot of the solution when putting the film on. Try to fill the scratches but be carefull not to ruin your device. And let it sit at least 12 hrs out to dry after you make sure you get all of the liquid and air bubbles out. I think it kind of molded to the scratches on his phone.

Scratches!!

I didnt get the warrenty so i doubt i can get it replaced.
