Also, can someone confirm is the black effect was solved by the update? I mean, there's no neg black effect at all? Do you guys think its ok to buy a week 37 now?

Sounds weird. So many people returned their iPod. Apple even admited through Walt Mossberg there was a screen problem. If they knew it was a firmware fix, why didn't they tell people to chill before they got tons of returns? Anyway, Someone with a 38 week iPod let us know if the update messes up anything. Want to make sure they aren't overcompensating for a week 36/37 problem.

the good ones supposedly already had the update.. :)

I don't see a problem, or for that matter any difference.

All that my iPt seemed to do was restore itself so i lost all of my settings/bookmarks, and had to watch it chug along with usb 2.0

So just turn your brightness back up, and it is exactly the same. I have to go to class in about 50mins and when i get back i will let you know about safari crashes ect. on week 38s after update.

Edit: Also I checked and still no VPN support >: (

Hopefully this new driver/profile or whatever the heck it is doesn't jack up the screens on the 'working' ones.

If this update just increases the brightness on the faulty screen batch then I'm still holding out. Its going to eat into the battery life somewhat awful.

Suppose its better than nothing though.

my screen is perfect now. totally psyched. still no adding events in calendar. oh well.

If I install this update, will it wipe out my ipod back to factory settings? Meaning - will i have to reload all of my music, video's etc..?
If so I will wait until tomorrow since most of my stuff is on a different pc

im thinking the update did nothing for mine.

i can still see the negative black.

ughh now i still have to return.

Yea, it's a PHYSICAL DEFECT. Up-ing the contrast or brightness or whatever is just a bandaid and will eat your batteries...

I get "negative blacks" on my iPhone when I tilt it off to a side angle - shows that it's the LCD screen coating.

Apple trying to release a software "fix" for a hardware defect is lame...

While I agree, its better than nothing. I'd rather have that fix than none at all.

Hopefully Apple will still accept returns on the faulty batch. If they don't, then thats the time to get pissed.

Updated my week 38 and the screen looks the same if not better (so fixing the negative blacks didn't alter good screens). After updating, I did not have to resync everything, so it's not doing a restore.

I did have a few podcasts to sync after the update and they definitely synced faster. So transfer speeds seemed to have improved.

Well, it worked. If I notice any significant battery issues I'll let you know.
