The GBA doesn't have enough power to give you complex games, so it loses out on 2 of the 3 criteria

Wow ... So you never played Golden Sun? Or Zelda/Minish Cap? Metroid Fusion or Zero Mission? Advance Wars? The GBA Castlevania games?

You missed a ton of really great games for a really stupid reason.

Since you're so defensive about the GBA why not post these killer games you think are so awesome.
Hmm...
The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
Super Mario Advance 1: Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World
Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island
Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3
Mario & Luigi: Super Star Saga
Metroid Fusion
Metroid Zero Mission
Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green
Pokemon Emerald
Advance Wars
Advance Wars 2: Black Hole RIsing
Wario Ware, Inc: Mega Micro Game$
Wario Ware: Twisted
F-Zero: GP Legend
Golden Sun
Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Wario Land 4

That is just a small sample of the best GBA games.

Sure they are chum.
1 of the 3, and BAD graphics is definitely a criteria for not playing a game.
The GBA doesn't have enough power to give you complex games, so it loses out on 2 of the 3 criteria, especially when trying to emulate other systems or use MAME. I've owned both, and the GBA is ancient and weak, the DS isn't bad, but the only part of the triumvirate that the GBA games have is fun/replayability, and that available on most gaming devices, or else they won't be used.

Show me a complex story 3D game on the GBA that even comes close to the dozens on the PSP.

Since you're so defensive about the GBA why not post these killer games you think are so awesome.
3D games does not mean they are better, most of the time they are boring. As a retro gamer, meaning i'm not one of the new kids who think gaming started with Playstation, I'm into 2d because its alot more fun. There are complex stories though, mostly in Strategy RPG like Tactics Ogre and fire emblem, and some killer games are of course Mega Man Zero series, Castlevania, Zelda, the Final Fantasy Series, Advance Wars series, and even some games on GBA being ported to PSP like Riviera and Yggdra Union. Also the PSP controls are not as tight as the GBA, I'm able to pull off moves easier on GBA version of Street Fight Alpha 3 than on the PSP version because of that torn up 4 pieces Dpad PSP has.

iPod touch does everything PSP does (besides play games) but is SUCH a better way. Music, videos, and photos look a lot better on the iPod touch, and to my knowledge, the most data you can put on a PSP is 4GB, compared to 16GB on the iPod touch. I would also like to throw in that the web browser in the PSP is not very good at all, while the iPod touch's is probably the best portable web browser out there.

And this is just my opinion, but the PSP's game library is a little on the mediocre side. Without a doubt, get the iPod touch.

I agree but the psp could do everything a itouch can do just not in such a good way. It aslo has skype,so now its a phone too. there are also so many hacks that the psp has that could potentially make it better. The psp also has a bigger screen. The itouch cannot take a beating like a psp can(trust me Ive dropped my psp tons of times).I dont know if u knew this but there is a psp hak called ipsp look it up.

Quoted for truth.

It's been proven time and time again, NES had worse graphics than its competitors but gameplay won. And the GBA was one of the best selling portable game consoles, and there's a reason Nintendo owns that market.

There's some good games on the PSP, but I prefer my DS/GBA most days, for the simple fact that I enjoy the games more.

In regards to PSP versus the touch, in regards to Music playing, get the touch.

Really? Look, I don't want to knock the importance of improving graphics in games, making them more realistic, et cetera. However, I don't understand this whole "graphics make a game thing." Why is a game not worth being played if its graphics are sub-par? So, any game made more than five years or so ago isn't worth playing? Games become less good as they age and the graphics become more outdated? I find the Marathon trilogy way more captivating than the Halo trilogy, bad graphics and all. The storyline is great, the game play is great. Perhaps I'm missing something really big here, as I'm not a gamer, but I couldn't really give less of a **** about top-of-the-line graphics (which the PSP is not, by the way, nor will any portable ever be). Gameplay, storyline, captivation. That's what matters to me.

+1,000,000. Golden Sun is among the greatest games ever made, in my opinion. Love both of them. Super Mario RPG is #1 for me.

Alright,
I have the money, but I can't decide. PSP slim or the iPod Touch. I have been raising money for an iPod Touch and finnally have enough. When I asked my friend if I should get or not, he showed me his PSP Slim. It looked amazing with the games, the big screen and portals and stuff... and I almost bought it. But I don't wanna give up on Apple. Many people say iTouch its not worth the money and all, but is that true?

I joined this forum late :( ...which one did you pick? is itouch any good? personally I prefer the psp because it has just about every thing a ipod does music/video/pictures/internet..and more (games/bigger screen) after adding costom firmwire you no longer have to pay for games and there are soo many homebrew apps such as gba emulator,n64 emulator, remotejoy (plays psp on computerscreen, psx games,tv remote,gps,rosettastone...so much more the list is almost endless ,and about the space problem get a MicroSD to Memory Stick Pro Duo addapter which allows you to put in 2 8gbMicroSD's(16gb total) or 2 16gbMicroSD's(32gb total) for about 45 for the 16 gb total (come with the 2 micro sd's) and about 60 for the 32gb total (also come with the 2 microSD's)

for my conclusion psp>itouch ;)

The Topic Is Going Off-Topic

The guy who posted this just wanted some opinions on what to get (Ipod Touch or PSP Slim.) NOW, the thread turned into an arguement :/. Its more like people flaming others that one is greater than the other when the guy just wanted which electronic he wanted. I'm not blaming anyone though. :p, enjoy the rest of the time spazzing at each other. BTW, since the guy already chose to get the iPod, here my opinion. Get PSP if you want to play some FEW decent games (Sony barely releases games now a days for the PSP and if they do, majority of them SUCK). Get the Ipod Touch if you want to have a lot of FUN. Dont get the PSP because of the over priced memory cards unless you buy them from those sites where they sell it cheap, dont get it cause its big and barely no games. Dont get the Ipod Touch because of not many (Hard to describe but like you wont have the same experience as the PSP games) of those games.

Conclusion.... Ipod Touch wins cause you get to have more fun with it and its easier to carry around with other than the PSP. Who would want a big, long, hard, etc (Thats wat she said :p) in their pocket when their walking,at school,at work, etc. Ipod Touch is SLIM unlike the PSP Slim (False advertisement) and it's easier to carry around.

I will probably get Spazzed/Flamed here but these are MY opinions.

I never understood the hemming and hawing over threads going off-topic. I think the topic changes over time.

If you havent gotten either yet I would wait on both. ipod touch -september
psp 2 announced in june released before Christmas 2009

Did any of you happen to notice this topic is over a year old? (excepting a couple of more recent November posts). The guy probably isn't even around anymore.

I have owned both, psp slim and ipod touch. Sold my psp. No where near as much productive and fun as the ipod touch. And the browsed on the psp was brutal IMO.

I have the original PSP and a brand new iPod Touch. I got my psp about 2 years ago, and the last time I played it was in the hospital a year ago. It has some amazing games like syphon filter, the socom games, etc. My ipod touch is brand new, and it was a gift (I DID NOT HAVE TO SPEND MY OWN MONEY ON IT). Before getting it, I used to tell everyone that it is a complete waste of money... but now I love it. It's hacked, customized, and filled with GBA games... has 16 gigs of music and a well functioning mail, internet, movie times, notes, and many other applications. The iPod touch is much better and more functional for EVERYTHING but gaming. It is however a rip-off with the current 16 GB maximum..

How did you jailbrake and put GBA games on your iPod Touch?

If anyone is thinking about getting a PSP, hold out until E3. Sony is bound to have some PSP announcements since the PSP has lost a lot of steam in America and has lost a lot of third-party developer support to the Nintendo DS. Rumors range from a whole new PSP2 to a significantly different model of the original PSP.

More directly to the original poster, if you like games and own a Wii, the logical solution to me is to buy a DS if you want the best console for games. Of course, you lose the media functions that the PSP has (although the new DSi can surf the web and play music) but for strictly gaming purposes, any hard-core gamer will tell you that the DS game library kills the PSP game library.

If you want a media player, the iPod touch wins no question. The PSP is a bulky machine, which immediately makes it inferior to the iPod touch as a music player. Plus, the iPod touch has connectivity to iTunes, making it very convenient if you like to listen to podcasts, or buy a lot of music. In terms of watching movies, both are great. The PSP has a slightly bigger screen, but if I remember correctly, the iPod touch has more pixels per inch, so it really is a toss-up. Safari on the iPod touch destroys the PSP's web browser (on screen keyboard WITHOUT a touch screen ;)) and then after that, the iPod touch has the App Store which matches and surpasses everything the PSP does, besides the game library which, for obvious reasons, the PSP beats the touch in.

DS - Best for games
iPod touch - Best for media stuff
PSP - Somewhere in between
