Nope. I already tested it and it's a no-go. Do you know for sure you just bought a 640x480 H.264 music video?TheNightPhoenix said:just bought a music video will see the new res and if it works on "old" 5G iPods in about 5 minutes

OK Please play on computer and get info - Command i - while playing to know for certain it is 640x480 H.264. On the bottom it says Normal Size: What numbers are there? In Format: it will say H.264 if it was encoded that way. Also what is the FPS Number playing? Should be 30.TheNightPhoenix said:hmmm works fine for meTook a while longer to load on the iPod (had ablack screen for about 5 secs) but plays fine.

Edit: Tested on Three iPods now. One bought days after the first 5G was realsed right up to one bought in july... all work with itunes purchase and home encoded content.
Please explain exactly how from where you did that. I am still trying with handbrake and EyeTV. The EyeTV2 export is supposed to be connected to the QuickTime but the iPod default is not H.264 640x480 in the EyetV2 Export windows.TheNightPhoenix said:just encoded 5 secs of video using the quicktime default export for ipod... now the default is 640 x 480 that plays too.
Keep Your Powder Dry. It's coming. When we don't know. But no doubt on the way.chopsuey158 said:What does this mean for the long-rumored widescreen ipod? Are they saving the new samsung 120gig drives for that? Will they wait until the hype dies down then hit it hard with the new 6g ipod like last year? Personally I like the updates, better battery, brighter screen, gapless playback(!), more storage. I just don't want to buy this and then have an uber ipod out in a month's time...
How are you home encoding? From What source type of video?TheNightPhoenix said:picture attached

LaMerVipere said:Okay, so it appears that owners of 5th generation iPods (before the latest release) who update their iPod software to version 1.2 get a few cool features that come pre-loaded out of the box on the latest 5th generation iPods, but not all.
We get:
Gapless playback
Ability to adjust backlight brightness (I'm particularly excited about this, I've been wanting it for ages, I bet it increases battery battery life immensely with the brightness turned way down)
When rapidly scrolling through ARTISTS we get overlayed alphabet letters which correspond to where we are on our list
Ability to play games bought from iTunes
We don't get:
New search function
** Video playback details yet to be determined
OK Great. Thank you. Got it. Never used 100% Quality before although I noticed it's only a 1 pass export. But I'm willing to give it a try. So far I noticed that the H.264 doesn't look any better but is 150% larger in file size so I'm not sure if this is going to work out. Need to test on HD material.TheNightPhoenix said:just before i jump between covers.... a rip from handbrake in 100% quality i had from before, DV Pal footage, 720p and 1080i footage all opened in quicktime and just gone to export for iPod all worked fine.
i Have not tried any other software, but tomorrow i will have to as its kinda my job to be up on these things. will let you know how it goes
