I've only recently made the decision to switch to mac, and so I had no idea how this site usually works. I've been caught up in the frenzy over the fabled new macbooks, and I've gotten myself all excited over the rumors. I did, however, decided to read through macrumors announcements over the past several macbook updates, on the day they came out, and I'm starting to get over the hype. It seems that every time it gets close to update time, everyone starts believing all the rumors, and the update just ends up disappointing to all involved. Don't get me wrong, I wait with bated breath for an aluminum macbook with glass trackpad and multitouch, but I know it's unlikely that we will see all of these rumors come to fruition. Who knows, Apple could come through with something awesome...

This post is probably reiterating what all of you have come to accept as fact, so I apologize for my naivety. I sure as hell hope I can read through this in a couple of weeks and laugh at how wrong I was.

While I agree with you, please don't get him started again. He finally stopped yelling at me about that, I don't want you to get involved with his crap too.

Its a fair comment though.

How many of us have made smart arsed Vista insults and jokes about windows PC's, Virus's etc..

Mac Gaming is in the same league, when you compare it to PC Gaming

The 2.27GHz quad-core has the same TDP as the current 3.06GHz dual-core and the price for the CPUs is the same.

The 2.53GHz quad-core is about 10w higher, but the fans should be able to handle it. However, the CPU is about $300 more expensive then the 3.06GHz unit.
Wait… so the 2.27 GHz is 45 W and the 2.53 GHz is 55 W?

Got it wrong:

Q9100 quad 2.26GHz TDP is 35W, $851
X9100 dual 3.06GHz TDP is 44W, $851
QX9300 quad 2.53GHz TDP is 45W, $1,038

No MBP update?

The current interent buzz is that MBs and MBPs won't get their update till October.

or September 16th.... (for the notebooks)

eirhter way it would be great for the Christmas season. Macworld may be the time for blu-ray, snow leopard, a major update to apple TV and may be the new mac "nano". you know the major product updates.....

No, my recall was faulty when I typed that.

The 2.53GHz QX9300 has the same TDP as the 3.06GHz part in the iMac and the 2.26GHz Q9100 has the same TDP as the 2.6GHz part in the MacBook Pro.

So we could conceivably see the QX9300 in the iMac and the Q9100 in the MacBook Pro.

I was not yelling at you, I was just discussing and why do you assume that I am crap?

In single-threaded and two-threaded tasks, the 2.53 GHz quad-core is 83% as fast as the 3.07 GHz dual-core.
In multi-threaded tasks, the 2.53 GHz quad-core is 65% faster than the 3.07 GHz dual-core.

You guys have jedi-powers with all the number-crunching. :D
I was thinking....how about if you compared a MacPro Quad 2.66 to
a futuristic Imac Quad 2.27/2.53? How would they compare? And which would you go for?

If you want the raw numbers, assuming perfect scaling and CPU-bound workloads:

Code:
Mac CPUs 4x 2.67GHz Mac Pro 4x 2.27GHz iMac 4x 2.53GHz iMac
100% app usage 1.000x Mac Pro .850x Mac Pro .950x Mac Pro
75% of 4x 2.67GHz app usage, ≥3 threads 1.000x Mac Pro .800x Mac Pro .933x Mac Pro
75% of 4x 2.67GHz app usage, 1~2 threads 1.000x Mac Pro .850x Mac Pro .950x Mac Pro

Also, the Mac Pro has a faster bus (2x 1333 MHz) than the iMac (1067 MHz).

Hmm

I dunno really, was going to buy a macbook pro today.
Then when i saw they were out of stock (from the site pixmania) i decided to take a look if there was any updates.
Now, if the rumours about the updates of macbook pros are true, then im pretty sure that itll be on september 12th -
Why? Because thats when pixmania gets stock back in. If there are updates, im pretty sure thats when theyll be released, or perhaps even a few days before - 9th of september maybe? :D
Because why else would a retailer get stock of a product which is going to be updated, surely they would have been notified!
Looks kinda promising :p

Oh, and heres the link - http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/10722/xx/xx/105/9/criteresn.html

If you look at the 2.4Ghz macbook pro, it says its going to be brought back into stock on the 12th of september (not the 9th of december - this is english!) However, it says the other macbook pro is due in stock tommorow (or technically, today for me) So not too sure about an update really

Any thoughts?

I don't think we'll have a MBP update on September 9, I just think that store was out of stock on that one type of MBP. The notebook update will probably happen in about a month, or maybe January. Of course, this is all speculation.

I doubt it will be January

Okay then!
So do you think i should buy a mbp or not?
I mean, soon.
Id be willing to wait a few weeks for one, but not january!
And if its just some new tocuhpad features and an appearance change, im not bothered.
Its the specs im bothered about!
However, i dont think we'll be seeing any "cheap" mbp Quads, but i guess this doesnt affect me anyway cause ill be getting the cheapest one!

So yes or no to a mbp by the end of september guys!
Thanks :D;):apple:

How badly do you need it? If you can wait for another one, wait. If not, buy now.
