Okay then!
So do you think i should buy a mbp or not?
I mean, soon.
Id be willing to wait a few weeks for one, but not january!
And if its just some new tocuhpad features and an appearance change, im not bothered.
Its the specs im bothered about!
However, i dont think we'll be seeing any "cheap" mbp Quads, but i guess this doesnt affect me anyway cause ill be getting the cheapest one!

So yes or no to a mbp by the end of september guys!
Thanks :D;):apple:

At least wait until the end of September.

I just gave my laptop to my sister. I now await a macbook pro. They better be bringing a new one out soooooooonish!

If you want it, wait until the new one ships, whenever that is.

If you need it, buy now.

What's the difference between want and need? That's up to each individual to decide.

I wanted an MBP up until mid-July. At that point, I needed one. Once I knew Apple would not release the new model until after mid-July (right after WWDC), I bought because the want became the need.

Ah right then guys, i dont really really need it, although i am buying it for college, so ill need it kinda soon
Id say if nothing in september, then buy one!
Cause im gunna need it pretty soon!
Plus im 16, and im just impatient, so i just want it now :p
Ah right, thanks anyway people! :D

AppleInsider recaps many of the circulating rumors which expect both iPod and Mac notebook updates in September. Some rumors have pegged September 9th as the possible day for at least some of the updates.

The iPod Nano and iPod touch are expected to see revisions, and long standing MacBook and MacBook Pro rumors point to revised case designs (MacBook, MacBook Pro) that adopt an aluminum/tapered look.

Newly reported, however, are expectations that the Apple iMac will see a refresh prior to the holiday season:An iMac update would be contrary to expectations as the iMac is the most recently updated Mac. The iMac was updated in April of this year and introduced early Montevina-like technology. As a result, there would be only marginal improvements if it were updated to the most recently released Penryn/Montevina chipsets.

I like the potential revisions to the macbook and MBP, the tapering gives the design a more futuristic and sleek look. Even if the keyboard and speaker layout is changed, a surface cosmetic change isn't something i would bother trading in or selling to upgrade for.

I hope they do make changes to the imac - lessen the "chin" maybe make it completely aluminum with a white apple, and if they brought in the option of a matte screen again, I would consider this as a next potential computer.

I think that if you're buying a computer to last you through college at that age, you can afford to wait, unless you're really smart and have skipped several grades.

Do you wish you had a time machine to fast-forward through time? :D
Oh yes ;)

Haha thanks for that :p
And i am going to need it real soon though!
Plus its not like any hardware revisions are going to be SUCH an increase, as in, would help so much, to improve grades and such, haha.
Ill wait september out, then when classes get serious, after september, and theres still no signs - then ill just buy one.
However, i do personally think their will be updates soon, due to all the research don on the net etcetc, and it is the right time to bring it in - holiday season.
Rather than aforementioned january, that would be a bit of a stupid sales idea if you ask me (right after xmas!)

I vaguely remember people saying the same thing about the Back to School season...

HMM...

Makes you wonder about dropping the name 'computer' from the Company.

Could Apple be done with desktop/laptop hardware sometime in the future, to focus completely on iphones/ipods? In other words the computer in your pocket? I remember reading a quote by Steve Jobs saying that the war for the desktop is over, Micro$oft already won.

Could Apple be the new Palm? Only way better? ...and then transition to a software company on the other end and just begin the monumental task of writing Drivers for all those other PC vendors?

Actually, I hope not, but dropping the 'computer' from 'Apple Computer' does make me wonder?

Jobs has said many things over the years. This is that actual quote: "The desktop computer industry is dead. Innovation has virtually ceased. Microsoft dominates with very little innovation. That's over. Apple lost. The desktop market has entered the dark ages, and it's going to be in the dark ages for the next 10 years, or certainly for the rest of this decade." -- Wired magazine, February 1996

I think that Apple's strategy over the 12 and a half years since then shows that it is still committed to the desktop (and laptop) market.

Apple is not going to dump the investment it has made in OS X and its computer products. But you're right, they now also have a focus on consumer electronics, and the name change was meant to indicate that.

You know it is pretty smart for jobs to sell a new product this time of the year... for college students anyway, this is the time when college students get their checks written to them that the financial aid doesn't need and all the extra money u get... then you get this product that is supposed to be better than the already great macbooks.... this is a smart move by apple to have something new this time of the year and sell it I mean come on it is smart... I personally would love to see the new alum. macbook with the white and black intergrated into it kinda like the iMac with the black linen and the white keyboard... this could be really nice.

Probably not.

iPhones and iPods depend on a computer to sync with. Considering the imminent release of iTunes 8, it seems like that will continue for the foreseeable future.

Apple also enjoys high growth of Macs, so why discontinue a profitable product segment? It's true that Apple is not focusing as much on the Mac (at least relatively speaking) as before, but I don't think that points to discontinuation. Rumors of case redesigns and other innovations, as well as patents for Mac multi-touch point to continued innovation on the Mac front. Even "0 new features" Snow Leopard is a base for future Mac OS X developments.

The pro segment does seem neglected compared to yesteryear, with slower Mac Pro update cycles as well as the absence of Phenomenon (so far, there aren't many rumors for software unless it's updated at an event). It's possible that this could trickle down to the consumer segments in years to come.

The iMac still need to get the LED background lighting. It did wonders for the MBP.

I don't think we will see that till next year. The new Cinema Displays are rumored to be coming at Macworld, and they likely would be LED considering the redesign. After that they probably will go into the iMac. That's my guess anyway.

Just to annoy people, no. To annoy MacRumors readers, yes.

Probably yes. I sometimes wonder if Apple has their own small department designated to MacRumors, who do nothing else but reading what other people say and add rumors about how cool the next new Macbook/pro will be and when it will come out, saying it will be soon but than procrastinating. Perhaps to raise demand or add some time so they can perfect their labtops without having Mac User switch to PC (Not that I think that really happens).
WHo knows? Maybe its a personal plot against me :D.

Anyways, I really hope the new MBP comes out September!

Are you kidding? Give people what they want? Not the Apple way.... They will tell you what you need and then you'll want it.

Well, I know. I am working in a startup, http://www.vectorirb.com and have convinced them to go Mac. What I want is a $300 Mac that can do basic web and document handling. What I'll get is the same old $400 PC running OS X for $800. Or maybe the same old $1200 PC for $2000.

They gave me a budget, and it only had three zeros on it.

I don't really care if they don't have the notebooks available straight away, I just need an announcement to put me out of my misery!

I agree. I don't need a notebook, I just want to see what they have in store, especially since I always enjoy watching Steve Jobs give his keynote address. Thank god there's the event tomorrow, I can't wait to see what they have ready for us. Personally, I just want a better visualizer and maybe a quicker iTunes, along with cheaper/more powerful iPods. That would be good for me.

And maybe we'll have a Mac event next month. That would be worth waiting for. :)
