i think that must be it.

Im sure Apple arent foolish enough to let the unavailability of 5gig ipods run *much* longer.

It must be if not losing them money then at least meaning they arent making as much as when theyre available as Im pretty sure 5gig are the top sellers.

Apple is selling 20 gb refurbished ipods for 399 - they must want to get rid of them? I hope they don't wait until April to release the new ones.

Still Here

So, I caved...

Instead of waiting for the new 40 gig ipod (next tuesday, right?), I got myself an external fw LaCie 120 gig drive & snagged a still in the box 5 gig ipod from ebay (it arrives thu-friday, knock on wood!).

This just seems the best solution for now, My music collection wouldn't fit on my Ti hard drive anyway & this way I can add music at 192 kb for some time & not worry about running out of space (only 96 gigs left!). Later, when the new ipods come out, and it seems most likely that will happen with iTunes4, I might start thinking about upgrading, but whatever.

But they are selling refurbed 20's real cheap at the applestore! doh!

does anyone know, do any of the 5 gigs have that clock/contacts stuff that seems to affect the battery life, or is that only on the 10s and 20s?

see you all next teusday!
:)

With the latest firmware and isync all the ipods do that contact/calender thing.

My 5gig ipod does that and i dont have a battery problem so i expect its just some ipods.

It might be two weeks.... it might be a month. Yes waiting is hell.

I've been waiting for updated iPods for two months now... It sucks but I will be one happy camper when the new ones are released, whenever that is...

First Apple offered refurbed 5gigs, then 10s, and now 20's. It can't be much longer.

New Discount Coupon for the Apple Store

Hi there, I just received another email from Apple with a discount coupon; the promo ends the 31st of March, and it sort of mentions that it's the moment to get a new iPod. Since I live in Spain, I am not sure if this promotion has been sent to fellas from all the world out there. The following is the text of the email, translated to english (my personal comments written this way; oh, and please be patient with my english):

Dear customer,

Thanks to your confidence, the Apple Store has stayed for four years as the leader in systems, accessories and software for Mac. Therefore, we are pleased to offer you a special 50 Euro* discount in your next order being it of a minimum value of 499 Euro* (casually the price of the 10 GB iPod in Europe) (promotion ends 03/31/03).

It doesn't matter if what you're looking for is the latest innovative digital device or you want to take advantage of the juiciest promotions: it is the moment to purchase a new Mac or iPod , software, a digital still camera or videocamera, speakers, soundproof headphones and much more. We are eager to receive your visit and enjoy your trust in us.

Tha Apple Store team.

The asterisk * stuff refers to the VAT tax in Europe.

Well, this is it; as for me I am probably getting a 10 GB iPod now (if I can return it in, say, a month). Greetings to all,

Angel.

I got one of those coupons too for $50 Canadian off of a $499 Canadian purchase. The 5GB iPod is $479 Canadian so it doesn't sound iPod specific. I was hoping to use it on an iPod though. I am still hoping for the update before March 29, 2003 so i can use it.

Regarding that stupid question

 That would be soooooo stupid for Apple to come up with something that wasn't compatible with the Millions of potential customers out there with their gigs and gigs of MP3s. People want players that will accomadate their thousands of songs ... songs that they don't have CD backup for because they've been Kazaaing, ShareBearing and Napsterizing lo these past several years.

And even if people had CD Backup -- who wants to re-rip 300 CDs to some new propietary format.

Think before you write this type of stuff. Sorry, but that is about the lamest question I've ever heard.

JAN 29 - MAR 06

GEESH!

Apple has to release the new iPods soon, b/c they are losing customers. I have been waiting for a long time to get an iPod, and was on the verge of buying one about a month ago. But then I thought, "I've heard apple is going to release one soon." Every tuesday, during my lunch break I go online to see if they have released it. I will wait until they do. But not everyone else will. I don't know if I'll be able to wait 'till April. And a lot of others defiantly won't. Apple has got to make their move now!

I'm getting nervous, because I was fine with waiting. I figured that any time in February or March would be fine with me. But if I have to wait until April... I guess that will be okay if it's early April. But in addition to the normal going to the gym use I'd get out of my ipod one of the reasons that I started thinking of buying one this year is that I'm going on a business trip in April, and I was really looking forward to having that music with me on long cab rides and flights and even nights in the hotel when I just can't read anymore. If there isn't a new ipod by then (I am only willing to pay $400 for an ipod if I can back up my entired hd on it, and I can't do that with a 10gb, and there are no "cheap" 5gb machines left), I'm just going out and buying an archos or whatever it is. I'd buy from ebay, but I'm nervous about having a battery die on me after a few months - which seems much more likely if I buy an ipod that already has had a lot of use.

So yeah. I'm sure Apple cares so much about my puny little purchase that they'll cater their release date for me ;) But gosh, I'm going to whine. Ipod by first week in April, or I'm going with a different company. By necessity.

.

if you think that's bad, i'm going on a 16-hour flight (east coast to far east asia) this may, and all I gotta say is it better be out by then or else.....................

Should I take my iPod back?

I bought a 10gb iPod from Best Buy a week ago, I have 30 days to return it and from what I've been reading the new iPods should at least arrive in April to coinside with iTunes and the new music share service. That would definately be passed my 30 day return.

I'm afraid I'm going to get screwed with the release of this new iPod, iTunes and Music Sharing Service, plus possibly a price decrease.

Should I take back my iPod and get a refund and wait for the new ones to be released or should I hold on to the one I have and hopefully it will work with the new iTunes and music share service.

What would you do???

Thanks!

I would take it back, it can't be too much longer until new ones come out as there have been no low end models for the past two months. Also, for 399 you should be able to get double the space.

Keep it and enjoy it :D Why send it back if you like it? Of course it is your decision.

i would imagine exisiting ipods will work with the new music system. I cant imagine apple blocking current ipod users.

The delay is probably work on itunes and/or the system for purchasing/downloading tracks.

Im sure they want to make sure nothing goes haywire on launch.

Remember Apple has provided software updates for the iPods before.
