Lol people are complaining how much thicker the X is. Like it matters, most of you put it in an ugly case. Yes the X is thicker than the previous design but if you go naked with your phone it’s hardly noticeable to me. It is still a thin phone!

About a week since going from 8+ to 8.

Still like the smaller form but not going to lie .. missing battery and screen of 8+. I browse and ‘research’ via YT a lot and I’m realizing more than I thought.

Technically I can go back to the 8+ but at this point they may run me out of the Apple Store and I wouldn’t blame them.

I’m not 100% on wanting to return to the Plus.. I’d say about 70%. Both are great phones.

    Day 9.

The battery on regular 8, for those not interested in the Plus, isn’t bad. It’s just that the battery on the 8 Plus is ridiculously good.

I’m noticing that I’m typing with two hands most of the time so that major advantage becomes an medium one.

Still wish I had Plus screen.

Random note. My wife went from Plus & X and I’ve owned a Plus for years. Tosay I asked my son to hand me my phone and right away he says.. “this is LIGHT!”

As much as I love the size of the 8 I think the only thing holding me back from going back to the 8 Plus is the walk of shame I would have to do in the Apple Store as they’ve been so helpful with the speaker issue. Honestly, I shouldn’t feel bad since the issue is still there but I’ve done several transactions on just this phone line.

I should add that I’ve had what’s seem to be mic and phone issues with this 8. Haven’t spent any time seeing if they are prevalent.

I have had several calls where people can hear me when I use speaker phone but cannot hear me using normal mic/phone to ear.

I’ve had more dropped/failed calls than I am used to. I would say about 5 in a week.

    Another thing...
    Camera.

I do kind of miss Portrait mode.. but I can live without it. I do have some images I took of my kids and was pleasantly surprised with results.

Pixel 2 comparison... VERY LIMITED comparison.

So a weakness of the 7, and to a bit the 8 was images taken of my kids. I actually left the 7 Plus and went back to the 6S Plus because of how bad the images were of my kids.. mainly skin tones all jacked and focus. Apple saw these results and agreed with me.

So I went to a Verizon store and took some shots of my kids with the 8 and Pixel 2 and the images out of the 8 were, IMO, WAY more pleasant. The focus was great and the skin tones were much better. I know editing could be done but TBH.. this made me pause on the Pixel as I was there to check it out in anticipation of buying it from Google but as of now I think I would stick with the 8/8 Plus.

UPDATE.. yes.. since 5 minutes ago.

I just had the call thing happen again. It's like the mic goes out in-call. I am taking to someone and all of a sudden they cannot hear me or I cannot hear them. Yesterday I could hear my wife but she could not hear me and today a person could hear me (I think as I said please call me back and they hung up) but I could not hear them.

Well. I made it 10 days.

First things first... there will always be quirks with hardware no matter who makes it. It's all about what the priority for each person.

The 8 is an awesome phone. The battery is really good..obviously not 8 Plus level but very, very good. I was having days where I wasn't far from an hour per 10%. Keep in mind, I disable a good bit of Privacy/System settings and Notifications. I also don't need my screen brightness at 80%+. The camera on the 8 is awesome and, if you don't want or need the Portrait thing.. possibly the best or top 3 cameras on a phone right now (hardware/software combo).

WTS, I found that I watch a good bit of videos (YT and sports) on my phone and I like to take and edit photos on my phone and the Plus really is the device for that. I will miss just tossing a phone in my front pocket or not even noticing that I have a phone on me it's so light but there are always trade-offs.

    I was/am 75% 8 Plus - 25% 8.

I investigated the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. I held them, took photos with them and read the Android forums to get up to speed on how things were going with the screens. If you think this site can get into the weeds.. just spend a few hours on the Android sites.... I am too old for that.. I like things that just work these days.

So I am back with the 8 Plus and I love the phone. I still feel it's the best phone Apple has ever made. Yes, I have used and have access to the X. That phone, right now, is not for me. It might be in a year, and it might be at it's current size.. but not the X.. maybe Lucky 11.

This thread is in no way a shot at anyone using an Android, Pixel, X, etc. etc... the whole point was the learning experience and sharing...and ultimately finding the right fit.. and that right fit is different for each person.

I won't name names.. but Apple was awesome in working with me. Yes, there was/is an issue but at this time the 8 Plus, in aggregate, is the decision and I'm stoked to have it back.

Just curious if you still have the speaker clipping issue on your 8+? I tried downloading some of the apps you said caused it (YouTube, SkyGuide, etc) but couldn’t replicate it on my 8+.

Space Gray.. I love how the matte sides flow into the black back and front.

I will let you know as soon as I can. Ironically, it locked up on me while installing my apps. I always setup as new. I installed the new iOS update and while installing purchased apps I noticed a 'ghost' YT icon not installing .. and the YT app was already installed on a different screen..

So I am forced to DFU and start fresh but I am ok with that.. glad I am familiar with all of this though.

Haha quite the journey. I don't remember, but did you ever consider the X? Has crazy battery life, smaller, portrait mode, a lot of the things you said you missed from the Plus. Any reason you didn't go that route?

I like the X but not as much as the Plus. My wife has the X.. using it solved my temptation. I don't like FID and I want a tad wider screen.

Just my luck.. something is wrong with this phone.. it is locking up. Right now I am trying to make a folder for apps and I can't exit the folder setup.

Going to try a soft reset but any more quirks and I have to take it back.

At this point, I will chalk it up to things trying to load.. I do know that my Apple Watch is being a bit aggressive about being setup RIGHT NOW. :)

Definitely still there. Is your side selector on Silent? I hear it in Sudoku Master Edition and Sky Guide. Just going to live with it.

I think something is up with this phone. It is giving me hell to sync with Apple Watch.. finally got it to work. Also, When I do a soft reset, a thin white line of pixels stretches across the black screen before the white Apple logo appears. I have never seen that happen on any of my iPhones.

I always use the example to say how far technology has improved from 10 years ago how thick and bulky cell phones were compared to today. I think as a society, we are spoiled by technology and our expectations are set much higher and we should appreciate all the little things how smart phones have changed and convenienced us.

You're right, people don't realize what they have nowadays. I'm old enough to remember when calculator watches came out. It was AMAZING technology to have a calculator on your wrist. Today we've achieved Star Trek levels of technology and people still quibble over things like it's 4 grams heavier, or it's .032 mm thicker, or one of my favorites, I have to charge it during the day. Really? Just think of all you do on these devices daily that you couldn't 10 years ago. I don't know, first world problems I guess.

I agree with you, but at the same time we should always be striving for better! Otherwise those calculator watches would still be the best thing around.

And I agree with you, however there is a difference between striving for better and just plain old-fashioned nitpicking.
