It's still not a good value comparatively speaking and even if you don't use it there is still resale value.
Resale value? What resale value? You'd be lucky to recover $50 for each step-up in storage capacity.

Is 16GB enough for you?

?

Are you saying recovering 50% of retail value on a Chinese mass produced consumer electronic product isn't good?

Let's not forget that's storage you could have been using aka benefiting you while you were the owner.

My point is dollar for dollar, you get better resale value from lower end models. Besides, if you don't actually use the extra capacity, then it's just money down the drain.

That said, if you need the capacity, by all means, go ahead. I personally own a couple of 128GB iPads. Percentage of resale value based on retail pricing compared to the 16GB model is likely pretty abysmal but I bought my iPad for my enjoyment and convenience—not for its trade-in value.

My iPad mini is 16gb and it works for me. I only have Comcast's app for watching tv live and on demand on it, various tv channels' apps, Netflix, Youtube, Kindle, and a game or two.

My iPhone is 32gb and works with the apps I have on it, and my music is all on the cloud, not on the phone itself because I have an iPod classic that I keep the music on.

I haven't found that to necessarily be the case. Using Swappa for comparison a Mint 4S 16gb is 215, mint 64gb is 350. Using new prices of 650 for 16gb and 850 for 32gb. The 16 gb model retains 33% of it's original value, the 64gb retains 41% of it's original value.

Obviously prices will vary I just used Swappa because it's a popular iPhone buying and selling site.

The miser in me picks 16gb or 64gb. The 32 gb is the worst value, 16 extra gb for $100 more. 64 gb gets you 3x that for 2x more.

There is value in anything if you actually use it! Paying $200 more when you only ever "use" (not store a lot of stuff) 16GB is still money down the drain..

That's the way manufacturer does to make you upgrade. buy what you need, don't buy one with the best value otherwise you'll just spend more and more.

Paying $100 for extra 16gb is a pain. but paying $200 for extra 48gb is a bigger pain unless you really need that space, of course.

I have a 16GB model now and about 2GB free so I could buy another 16GB without having to worry about free space every now and then, but I'll be happy to buy a 32GB model and keep more photos-videos on the phone.

I hope Apple will double the storage keeping the same price with iPhone 6, leaving 16GB for the "cheap" iPhone, so
5C 8GB 0$
5S 16GB 99$
6 32GB 199$
and so on...

is time to move to 32GB for the entry level, is 2014

I agree with that. That's why I referenced myself. Paying 2x as much doesn't work for me. I can find media to fill several 64 gb iPhones.

Everyone is different obviously.

First time I think I've ever read someone say, "don't buy the best value". Of course you spend more and get even more in return. And like I mentioned above get an even higher return on investment.

.......

Don't get me wrong I have no problem with the 32gb model. And yes it makes sense if you are absolutely sure you'll never exceed 32gb. Or if you can't afford the 64gb but need more then 16gb.

I just find it to be a tough sale to spend 100 on 16gb when you can spend 200 on 48gb. 100 seems like a rip off when a lot of the competition only charges 50 for then bump from 16 gb to 32 gb.

The "bigger" the model the less it devalues through time compared to the 16GB or 8GB in the past models.

16gb used to be a lot.But my iPhone is basically full now and it's hard to find stuff that a want to delete.

I think alot of it has to do with personal preference. Some people only use their iPhones for calls and music, and others use it for videos and games. I am more into social media apps (facebook mainly) so I want a 32 GB minimum. I have a 32 GB 5s and I don't see it as limiting at all. I used 20 gigs so far, so for me, 16 gigs wouldn't be an option.

16 is fine for me since I stream all my music and don't hoard photos or large games.

16gb is doable for me since I can stream most of my music if I need to but I usually opt for 32gb phones so I don't have to manage my apps as much. Right now I'm using a 32gb LG G3 with a 64gb micro sd card for my music and movies and that setup is great for me but the iPhone will never have expandable storage so I'm hoping for 32gb to replace 16gb with the iPhone 6.

I mostly end up using it for email, general surfing, various social apps, etc. and 16 GB seems to be fine. Not sure why social media stuff would really end up eating much space.

On my Moto G I have 8gb and always have around 3gb free - it's never been an issue.

I'm glad my iPhone is 16, but I never reach that limit, either, around half (7gb or so) free.

16 GB was fine for me for a long time. I had an 8GB 3GS and a 16GB 4S, but when I upgraded to the 5s all of the sudden I kept bumping up against my storage limit. I will try for 32 or 64 next time.

Who the hell buys iPods, when they got an iPhone? I have music on my iPhone, what would need an iPod for? But hey, it's your money...

well my story is kinda different because I had an iPod classic first. I use it still because it holds all my music, and I still have a gang of space on my phone. its an 80gb and its like an 1/8 full. Have had it since 2001

A lot of good reasons to own one.

More storage space and its mostly dedicated too music.

Don't have to worry about music crippling the battery of your means (sometimes only) of communication. Plenty of times I've stopped listening to music due to trying to conserve battery.

You can be a little less careful with it. Use it on the beach, at a party etc. Things where you wouldn't want to just leave you phone laying around.

On the previous point you don't need to detach yourself from communication when the audio system requires the device being plugged in. Basically at a party you aren't tethered to an audio system.

I find them better for working out because I want to be disconnected to the world but can't keep my phone in airplane mode (on call, need to still receive message). On that point DnD has done wonders for me HOWEVER I've occasionally been bothered through DnD when listening to music.

Anyway, there are good reasons to have one.

I too used a classic instead of my iPhone. I have a 160 gb Classic to hold all my music on. I have since replaced it with a 128 GB iPad mini. And I have a 32 GB iPhone.

i used to be a 16gb kind of guy, i actually enjoyed mirco managing the space, but i got some great deals on some 32gb items, and well i haven't looked back. :D Having more than enough space is awesome, i usually have around 4gb free even with all my music, videos and apps.

Sometimes the other space gets too big but icleaner helps me out every now and then
