I am assuming these screenshots are from the Mac version of iTunes. Just wondering why it gives the amount of videos, songs etc., instead of the Gb size like windows does? Can you choose which one displays?

This should work in Windows as well, Just click anywhere on the colored dots, name area and it would switch.

Also clicking on the grey status bar below wile in the Music/Movies etc tab will give you more information.

With Home Sharing in iOS 4.3 for media streaming at home (Wi-Fi) combined with ZumoCast for streaming outside of home (either at another WiFi location, or tethered to the iPhone), I find the 16GB WiFi only iPad is more than enough.

I don't understand the need for people to have their entire collection of MP3's, Movies and TV show stored on the device, then complain that 64GB isn't enough. Seriously, sync what you need when you need it. Or stream what you can.

Apps don't really take up that much space, again, if you only have what you use installed. Why keep apps on the device that you don't use.

It's really just a paradigm shift -- from having everything on your computer to having things stored remotely and accessed from there. Once you've gotten used to that, 16gb will perfectly adequate for most people. Of course when you're on a plane or somewhere else where you don't have either wifi or 3G, you won't have full access, so that's something to consider.

Sounds like 16gb will be just fine for you too.

Oddly I seem to be going against the trend and am planning on going up to 32Gb from 16 primarily for holiday use. I've found 16 to be more than enough for daily use around the house or on the road but I've started to ONLY take the iPad with me when I'm away from home for a few days or longer. No books, no portable gaming system, just the iPad. In that instance I find myself having to be very careful in my media and app selection before I leave as games, books, audio books, music, video and the usual misc apps end up taking a fair bit of room.

Other than that though I've rarely found myself desperate for more storage space and with Home Sharing coming in 4.3 I'd say an iPad that spends the vast majority of its life around the home should get away with 16Gb.

I will be getting 64GB wifi only. I don't have an iphone to tether and when I am away from home I don't want to have to have a wifi hotspot to access files/music etc.

I want all my music/photos etc on my Ipad. I also will be adding tons of apps :)

16gb is plenty.

Between MobileMe, dropbox, and air video you shouldn't have any problem.

Lifehacker put together a nice article here

I think that 16gb is not enough. As a college student, a lot of my reference apps are 300mb to 400mb in size. Complex games like dead space are a few hundred mb large and don't forget about music. I encode movies for my apple tv and the average size is anywhere between 700mb to 1.5gb. I do not waste time creating a separate file for the ipad meaning I can easily have 8 movies on my ipad that takes up 10gb or more of space. I think I could probably get by with the 32gb but I just went for the 64gb and could not be happier.

If you are going apps only 16gb is more than enough room. It's rare to see an app bigger than 100mb, and that's the fancy game apps. You would get 200+ apps easy on 16gb...

Apps, are getting bigger, I got chem pro, it was like 2 Gigs, and Elements was like 1GB

Honestly I have a 64gb wifi iPad 1 that's filled up. I can only imagine the iPad 2 with the cameras and iMovie and bigger apps. I need 64gb again.

Those are also apps with HD video and Images with a lot of offline data. Elements is just super fancy looking - if you really need to check element info there are a slew of websites detailing them which take up no hard drive space. Apps aren't getting bigger - games are because they are going HD, the 'useful' apps will still remain small. 16GB would be fine for me.

I guess I just don't understand why you started a thread saying 'i only use 10gb, is 16gb ok?'

16gb is the way to go. You'll be happy you didn't splurge on a more expensive model when iPad3 arrives at the end of this or beginning of next year.

If you plan on playing a lot of higher-end games or purchasing lots of video content, then I would recommend 32 or 64 GB models. Other than that you're good to go.

I had the 64GB and never used even half its capacity. I don't store video on my iPad and most of my music is through Pandora. I'm going with 16GB this time.

A year is a long time. Your resale value will be lower too. There are plenty of reasons to go with 16GB but yours isn't one of them.

Unless you plan on storing a huge amount of music or a bunch of videos, 16GB is plenty.

Personally, I have a 64GB iPad 1 and would have loved a 128GB iPad 2. I'm storing a lot of video, so I need the large storage capacity. Despite the advances in cloud storage, I prefer having the videos locally, in case my network connection goes down for some reason. The extra $300 is well worth it to avoid hearing, "Daddy, why can't I see Simba right now?"

Disagree. You may not have read OP's post: "I will not be putting my music/photos/movies on it." 16gb is indeed the obvious choice here.

And yes, a year is a ways to go, but goes by faster than you think. Who has the money to waste on things you don't need or won't use in this economy? Resale loss on higher-end iPads are always more than on the base model (as with any computer hardware).

Ill be going 64gigs. I have the 16 gig one and it's a big pain to always remove the files I download or have to limit my pdf collection. This time no more games

As you can see, most people who needs more than 16gb put music, photos, and movies on their iPad. What this mean is that, since you will not put these kinds of media on your future iPad, 16gb will be enough.

I've been debating this back and forth but I figure if I can afford the extra $100, why not? The resale value will also be better later.

This is exactly how I came to the same conclusion. My previous was a 16gb and it was fine. But I did find myself having to offload stuff from time to time and since I got the extra $100 covered, done deal. I'll have no problem getting a good chunk of it back if and when I sell it later.
