With the iPad 2's specs (2x CPU, 9x GPU) Games and Apps will be MUCH bigger than the original..

We will probably see most games hit the 1GB range, and even more powerful games max out to 1.5GB.

If I were to get the 16GB iPad 2, I would only be able to fit all of my music (4GB)
and 5-10 GOOD quality iPad 2 games..

Developers are already releasing iPad 2 geared programs. Infinity Blade itself is half of a GB large. I think when Real Racing HD is re-released this week, it will be about the same size as well. I'd go with the 32GB to make up for some of these larger programs we will be seeing.

Up until now I was almost sure I was going to get a 16GB iPad, but like you mentioned, a lot of game are going start being released and are going use up so much more memory (compared to iPhone apps), with even Apple releasing Garageband at 350+MB.

I am now going to get the 32GB Model instead, just to be safe.

My first gen iPad was 64GB. I only had 12GB on it and that included 2 movies I never watch. I bought a 16GB because it was the only 3G available today at BB and that size will be just fine. I thought I'd need more but after almost a year I found out I did not. I saved 200 bucks this way. Life is good.

With all this talk about music size, maybe someone can help me understand my situation: (Mac)
I have 4374 items with 32.33 GB in my music.
Sync entire library. Most in library are 256 kbps.
I have "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC" selected.
The music tab of my iPhone says 4008 songs, 14.78 GB.
Cool so far, but strangeness with the 2 pictures.
1 says 16.6 G music. Ok, but little big. The other says 22 G music.
Why one or the other? I don't know. It jumps between the 2, not sure what triggers it. My iPhone says 1.2G available.
Recently did a restore due to failed upgrade to 4.3.
Any ideas?

I have the 32GB 1st gen, and just ugraded to the 64GB iPad 2. I was always running low on space and had to pick and choose the content that I wanted to sync. Can you get by with it, sure, but if you use it for apps, books, PDFs, email, videos, music, you may find yourself picking and choosing what you want on your iPad. And if you travel alot for long periods of time, you may get bored of the content in a couple of days.

16GB is more than enough if you don't plan on putting a lot of music or video on it. Music takes up much of my space on my 32GB iPhone.

I'm on the same boat though. Since all my music is on there anyway, I won't need it on the iPad so the 16 is perfect.

And if for some reason I don't have my iPhone on me but want to listen to music, pandora app is great on the iPad. (oh and so is netflix!)

I got the 16GB iPad 2 on Friday. I'm just using it for web browsing and other entertainment things, but you can always cloud or stream things so there isn't a real need for me to have bigger.

On that note, I'm glad I chose this over the Xoom. (Even though I'm an avid Android user).

Im getting the 16 because im almost certain i can last another year with out cramping up in the space department, however i keep all 900 of my songs on my iPad, Im not sure why you wouldnt want it on here, i've even read on these forums about people adding music to there iPad later and finding it to be a hole other experience. To me what ever size makes it more computer like is the best one too chose for me thats all my music all the apps i could want say you by 2 apps a month, books whatever really. Right now you sound like a 16. This time next year for me at least 16 is gonna a tight fit (upgrade!)

I had the 64 first time around. I ended up with the 32 this time (wanted the 64 but they didnt have them at launch... And realized I probably didn't need it). I have almost 2000 photos, 300 songs, about 50 videos (short films and home-movie type stuff) and maybe 30 apps. I still have about 14gb free.

Nice thing about syncing photos through iPhoto is that they are resized/optimized for the iPad so don't take up a lot of room at all. I'm a photographer and picky about how they look and i have to say, they look fabulous.

I'm glad I ran across this thread. It's made me feel better about choosing the 16GB model. I was afraid that maybe I should have ordered the 32 GB model instead. I don't really have to sync my music to it because I have an iPhone and an iPod Classic. If I do put video on there I can rotate them out as I plan on streaming video for the most part anyway. Apps shouldn't be a big deal, I've got 129 installed on my iPhone taking up only 6GB of space.

I had a 16GB iPad 1, but decided to go with the 32GB iPad 2 and I'm glad I did. I found that it wasnt really the music that took up all the space, but the apps and movies. If you aren't putting much music and only a movie or two, then 16GB may get you through. Depends on the apps sizes, some are 400MB+.

It's not like you need to have 20 big games on it at once. You just keepnthe 5 you actually might play, and synch others in and out. And lots of small games.

I've got the 16 gb completely loaded with high res photos, some evooks, critical music(iPod for rest), podcasts, one movie in case i want some offline viewing, and a ton of apps including several 500 mb games, and I've still got 4.5 gb left. I dont foresee any problem keeping it under 16 gb. Sure not having to bother unsynching things I don't use now and then would be nice, but for 100 bucks I can use to improve the functionality with apps and accessories... fine with me.

I'll just use Netflix for most movies, pandora for extra music, link it to my pc with various apps to watch whatever I want on wifi at home. If arnt on wifi/3g most of the time sure I'd want more space, but Streaming + 16 gb seems perfectly manageable.

That said if money were no object, obviously I'd take a 64gb 3G.

Since you can now home share your entire iTunes collection wirelessly - both music and video - 16 GB should be enough, IMO. Only depends if you need a lot of video/music for long trips.

I had a 32gb first time around, but there were occasions (business trips etc) when I found that I was having to swap out some apps to fit enough video on (I rip a whole season of a TV show e.g. West Wing for long flights, and I also have all the music I've added in the last six months synced), so I went for the 64gb this time around. It's overpriced for the extra space (esp here in the UK, where you pay £100 for the extra 32gb), but I'll get the utility.

That's how I feel. I'm sure I could deal with the 16/32 but I rather just sync everything and not bother with in when I'm in a business trip. Or even worst - on a plane with no internet. TV seasons and Movies take up a lot of space. Plus my music library is about 20gb now and I rather not start to check and uncheck music.

And obviously when I sell it I'll probably recover 50% of my 'Flash memory' investment.

i have 16GB iphone and i'm full, i've been deleting things now to put newer ones on. I mean, you can easily manage with 16GB, but if you start putting music and videos on there, you'll have to meet compromises between what you want.
Apps are usually small, but there are some that are getting bigger and bigger.

The extra $100 for the 32GB is less than $10 a month if you figure you keep the ipad until the next one comes out. The price drops even more if you keep it longer. If you can't afford that, then perhaps you shouldn't be buying an ipad in the first place.

You know.. If 100$ is worth the extra 16gb then the extra 100$ has to be worth it for 32 more gigabytes :)

Just sayin'. I guess they got me where they want me.. LOL

I'm seriously considering swapping out my 32GB for 64GB because after a major download of apps, I have 9GB of apps. I consider it my starter iPad so I'm waffling on whether I'll really go for 64GB though.

Depends on you're music/video library. Or at least want you want with you at all times.....

FWIW, I was gonna go with the 16, but because of low availability, I ended up with the 32. I really appreciate that extra space, I loaded it up with movies I never get tired of (all Harry Potters, My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away... Yeah, I'm kind of a nerd). I put the leaked Britney album on there and some large apps my girlfriend can use in the classroom. Still have 20GBs left, not stressing about space. It's nice.

If you don't need to view video or audio outside of your house then 16 is fine. With the new Home Sharing feature of 4.3, more then 16gb isn't needed really.

I agree. People have different needs. Why pay more for something you aren't going to use? I can afford the 64GB, I just don't see the point for the way I'm going to be using it.

I have the 64GB model and sometimes I wish it was bigger. I carry a lot of data with me, plus tons of apps (some are big; I know I should remove the ones I don't use often). I have some audiobooks and iTunesU videos as well, tons of photos, but almost no music and just 2 movies (I stream my movies using AirVideo).
Currently I only have 8GB left.
I would strongly recommend getting at least the 32GB model or higher.

Here's my usage breakdown:

Audio: 2.80 GB (Mostly Audiobooks)
Video: 16.50 GB (iTunes U and 2 movies)
Photos: 11.00 GB (Some photos I synced from iPhoto)
Apps: 20.00 GB (some apps are offline GPS data for other countries about 2GB)
Other: 1.37 GB (Mostly ReaddleDocs local data such as docs and karaoke files, plus lots of synced data from Dropbox and WebDAV.)
Free: 7.80 GB (Working on recovering some free space back, but it's sometimes hard to do).
