Is $200 (for Plus) Really Worth Not Waiting for the X?

It is funny though seeing people making all these reasons(some valid sure)to not buy the X. I been there before myself haha so I’m not hating.
I should have known better. I was looking for actual honest 8+ owners reflection. I can certainly do that. I have been "stuck" with a phone for 10 months wishing I waited for the next cycle, etc. in the old contract days. I was honest that I really wanted something that was out but made a poor decision.
There are a few candid answers above and thank you. To each his own. Most everyone I know over the last few years that got the plus phones all admit that it is BIG and they wish it was in between the the regular and the plus. I think most plus owners if honest with themselves would say the same.

Have to give it back a little here. C'mon, the X was the real cutting edge announcement a few months ago for Apple. You know that for sure. The 8 should have been called the 7s.

Because I'm not going to sit here and say that I'm never going to upgrade my phone again lol. I am simply comparing the iPhone X to the iPhone 8 this year. Cameras are identical, which is huge to me, and so is the processor/graphics. I'm honestly very much in love with Apple's current displays, and don't want to "upgrade" to OLED, until it becomes more a necessity.
If they introduce a 120hz screen next year, that will likely be enough to push me over the edge. Otherwise I may actually "downgrade" to the SE 2 (never liked the 4.7 inch form factor anyway, due to width, and the X is even wider).
Just depends on the lineup next year.

So anyone that says they are happy with their Plus isn’t being candid? Only the Plus owners that say they wish they got the X are? Got it.

I'm not surprised at all, although that's not to say that I wouldn't be happy to upgrade if I cared about what the X had to offer.

both phones are almost the same in terms of camera functionality ... as much as i like to say it i still hate the X's 2X zoom lens... it still can't hold a candle to the wide 1x f/1.8 lens in terms of IQ. This is coming from a professional photographer who uses iPhones to casually shoot and craft photos for the social media publications.
whether 200$ is necessary for the new screen design, and the gestures is up to you to answer. after 1 week of using my iphone feels like any other iphone pretty much just with a newer screen + more gestures to tweak around with... so yea, try and take this into consideration. at least if u buy one now you have until Jan 8 to do an exchange due to the holiday period.
No regrets with the 8+ considering most of my medical apps on the X are about the same size on a regular non plus iPhone. Medical apps are notorious for being slow to update and I’m not going to downgrade to that screen size until all my main apps are updated. Which will about the same time as next year. Plus I drive a lot so having Waze in full brightness and not worrying about burnin after having the same image for hours at a time is a big advantage for me
coming from the 6s+ the X screen feels SMALL. but ... after 3 weeks I got used to it and frankly LOVE that the X fits into my front jeans pocket easily and when walking it doesn't feel like you are carrying around a giant 6s+

I got the 8 plus because I needed a new phone ASAP and couldn’t wait a couple more months. I destroyed my 6 Plus like an hour before they announced the Apple Keynote, so I held on for that and then held on for the actual delivery of the 8 Plus, but that was as much as I could stand. Otherwise, I would have gotten the X. That said, I’m perfectly happy with my 8 Plus. It still feels like my pretty, shiny new toy, with my great big screen I love. I don’t mind sitting out until the app developers figure out how to optimize everything for the dimensions of the X. Next year, I might get an X Plus if they come out with one. But maybe not... I really am enjoying the 8 Plus. Maybe the extra dimensions aren’t as big a deal for women, because we are less likely to carry our phones in our pockets and more likely to carry them in a purse/bag?

This is what makes 2017 all the more disappointing for this release though. We’ve got a phone with similar internals to the X but in a very similar design to the 7 and we’ve got a brand new iPhone that is seriously lacking the wow factor.
If the X is cutting edge then I’m seriously going to have to consider my options. I can’t justify dropping over a grand on a phone just for FaceID and Animojis. The latter being that I’m probably too old for this to be a serious feature.
You’re right I know the X is their ‘cutting edge announcement’. Where has the cool stuff gone Apple? At this point in time if I was upgrading I’d get a boring 8 and save the extra £300. That’s pretty much how dire I see this years offering.

I got the 8 Plus because it was available and is every bit as fast as the X. I also didn’t see the value in the X, especially since there is less usable screen space. Once there’s a Plus version I’ll be interested.

Good points. Honestly, for those who are truly undecided between iPhone X an iPhone 8, I would usually recommend the iPhone 8. Mainly because somebody will still Have a similar experience in performance, as it shares a lot of the same features and capabilities as the iPhone X, with the exception of Face ID an OLED being the major factors. But the iPhone 8 is the most refined iPhone in Apple's lineup currently in my Opinion.
Well, the wow factor and cool stuff is a different issue all together. I agree with you but I am not quite sure what any manufacturer can do at this point. The devices are jam packed with features how do you distinguish a product cycle? Unfortunately you aren't going to get more than an new feature, better screen, battery, camera, etc. at this point. At least FaceID was something brand new and not a better camera. I'd argue that the X might be boring because FaceID is so seamless and transparent. The switch to no home button could not have been more seamless.

Well it’s a very saturated market which is why price has suddenly become a key issue for me. Being told if we want the best iPhone Apple can offer we have to suddenly pay over a grand, that doesn’t sit well with me. Especially if it fails to get me enthusiastic. FaceID maybe new, but I struggle to get excited about a new method to unlock my phone. The technology may offer more in future I know. There has to be more than talking giraffes and poo to send to your loved ones as some kind of quirky gimmick?
Right now to me the X is a nice looking version of the iPhone 8 with exception of the letterbox block at the top of the screen. I hope next year the novelty has worn off and this phone can come back into the market for the majority. Maybe it might even put it into more people’s hands and help Apple develop it in the right direction?
You’re right though, what are other manufacturers doing in competition? They are doing pretty much the same thing but seemingly without ripping off the consumer. If I could install iOS on a Samsung I’d be all over it at half the price.
I tried the iPhone X, didn’t like that the notch make it impossible to fit all the info I had at a glance with the 7 Plus, battery percentage etc. FaceID feels like a hassle compared to touchID, and the screen is basically just a taller 4.7inch iPhone 7. Went back to my 7 Plus, and now want to get an 8 Plus to have a more future proof iphone with a fingerprint scanner and no notch. I never thought I would leave apple (tried the note 8 for a little bit but came back) but if there is no fingerprint scanner and more "notches" in apples future it’s going to suck. So I’m upgrading my 7 Plus to an 8 Plus knowing I might hold on to that device for many more years until Apple no longer supports it. That’s how much the X made me realize I love Touch ID and a "nothcless" screen. 🙁

If I had a 7 Plus now I think I’d waiting until next year as the phone you have is pretty decent for at least another year.
You’re right, buying it when the 2018 iphone(s) comes out will be a lot cheaper. But I have this fear it is the last iphone with touchID, and that it will be discontinued in 2018 to force people over to FaceID. 😱

I wouldn't call this future proof, more like having the last Dinosaur.
Tell me about it. At least Samsung is working on a fingerprint scanner under the screen that will work no matter where you place your finger on the display. That could be the day I permanently switch to android. It’s also a bonus if they don’t copy the "notch".

Is it really that important to you to convince people on a message board that your phone is the best and the only one worth owning? People buy what they like and want and yet you think you have to denigrate their choice.
And you are? The voice of the people? Message boards are for debating among other things. I have agreed and liked many posts throughout this thread that are in support of iPhone 8 choice. However, when I see someone defending the home button and putting down faceID without trying it, I am going to weigh in.
Analogy - I wish I bought the last LG Phone with a slide out keyboard to future proof against those electronic keyboards that make so many errors and are hard to use.
Other manufacturers see a future in the fingerprint scanner (especially under the screen) so I don’t think it’s fair to compare it to a slide out keyboard. I’m just hoping Apple will join the bandwagon once Samsung gives people the choice between fingerprint recognition embedded under the screen AND Face recognition. I was hoping to hold on to an iPhone 8 Plus waiting for that day, I’m optimistic about it.
Well if you are referring to me, I did try the faceID for over a week, and still prefer touchID. I gave it a fair shot, but only got more and more annoyed with it.

I wasn't referring specifically to you, more the people that post vapor about it without trying it. I had had zero issues and I still have the switch on where it has to see my eyes. I would imagine if one shuts that off, it is like butter.
