How is it going for you so far? How many days into your month are you? How many mb's used?

Not bad at all. Im 10 days into the current cycle and I've only used ~40MB
This is with me surfing randomly while shopping with gf...and using Google Voice for text (consumes data) constantly. One thing I have to constantly keep in mind is if I need to download stuff (like updating apps) hold off until I get home and use wifi.

I wont use my GV anymore once I am switched over. I plan on keeping my cellular data just off at all times until needed. Hopefully that'll keep my data in check.

My parents use about 50MB a month on their iPhones, so it's definitely doable.

I'm thinking of downgrading them to the 200MB plan, but I'm afraid they're usage will change unexpectedly when I do.

200MB isn't even enough for a flip phone. It's really a joke of a data plan. Hopefully, you have a FAN discount which will lower the 2GB cause you'll need that. With my FAN the 2GB plan is $18.75 and the 200MB is still $15.00 so it's a no brainer for me.

Browsing net and emails occasionally 200mb should be fine. Just try it out and if it isn't enough you can always change it to 2GB.

We just put in for a work discount (my mom works at Macy's) and we are getting 20% off... but nobody seems to be able to tell me if it's ONLY off the minutes bill or if it can come off the data bill too. I've heard many times on these boards that it comes off the data plans of $25 and up but nobody at At&t is willing to tell me.

There is no way I could survive off of 200MB a month, the WiFi at my school is beyond horrible so I am forced to use 3G all the time. My data usage is usually around 3.0GB so cutting back to 200MB would be really hard for me. When I am at home and I have blazing fast WiFi I barely use my 3G. If you are near WiFi a lot you will probably be alright. I would get the 2GB plan from ATT to start off with and see what your data usage is like. Use your phone normally, don't restrict yourself and you will get a good picture of where you are at.

Depends

For my wife, since June she has not gone over that.

That would not be enough for me!

I believe you only get the discount on the 2gig plan and not the 200 mb plans

Oh I understand that...

I'm not sure if I get 20% off any data plan at all is the question. I'd happily take the 2gb plan if I knew for sure.

If you are around wifi 75% of your day you should be fine. I have the 200mb bit plan since I am also near wifi through the day too.

I'm going to stick with 200mb and just see if I go over... At&t allows you to switch up or down within the month any time you want so I can just switch up if need be.

I have the 200MB plan, but I have my phone on Wifi all day at home and at work. Other than that, I use 3G when I'm out and about. For texts, emails, and surfing the web, it's hard to hit 200MB. Videos, youtube, etc are probably where a lot of data will get used.

It is definitely possible to survive with 200MB though. You just have to be willing to turn off the 3G and use Wifi whenever possible. You'll get a text notice from AT&T when you hit 65% of that 200MB and another notice when you're at about 85% or 90%. I choose to just turn off 3G at that point. It's worth it to save the money I think, especially when every Starbucks, every bookstore, and pretty much a million other places all have free wifi.

You can also get an app called Onavo that will shrink your data usage. It works really well.

I'll look into Onavo now!
