I've always had 16GB and always thought it was enough, but not anymore.
Granted, I don't store movies on my phone. Just music and photos.

But as time passes by, you'll accumulate more photos and some short vids to capture moments, and this definitely needs storage. I don't even have enough memory to update to iOS 8

Def get more memory

I ordered 2 64GB iPhone 6's. I have gone with the 16 for both the 4 and the 5s and was always deleting apps and having to delete photos to download other apps and things. After today seeing that iOS 8 update needs 5.8 gigs on my 5s to update I am very glad I did it and won't ever go back to less storage. I really thought this would be the time around Apple would do away with 16GB and start offering 32GB as the entry level phone.

you will regret having only 16gb. keep in mind you are only getting around 12 gb of usable space with the phone.
as apps start taking advantage of the new screen size and new capability of the device so will the size of each app.
as for music and media you will have to use icloud to steam all your music but this will not work in areas that you dont have service. you can never have enough memory.
the hype and need to have the new phone will only last for so long. then you will be stuck wishing you waited for the device with more space.

I had to settle on the 16GB as it's the only 6+ that showed available on Apple's site last night, the 64GB was showing 7-10 days shipping and I didn't want to wait. I think it'll be fine, all my iPhones until now have been 16GB and it hasn't been an issue.

I can't believe nobody has called you out in this thread. YOU COULDN'T WAIT A WEEK TO GET 4X THE STORAGE ON A DEVICE YOU WILL USE EVERY DAY!! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING! Obviously, you are entitled to your own opinion on what size is best for you. But to make that decision based on a one week delay in shipping time is LUDICROUS!

One thing that can take up a lot of space is SMS messages with media. My wife gets tons of photos and videos of her nephews daily, among others, and they chew up her 16 GB storage pretty fast. There is also no really easy way to sort or get rid of these, other than laboriously going through each message thread and deleting the ones you don't want one by one. Or wiping your phone clean but then you lose all your messages (not just the media), plus you have to set everything up again. Really wish Apple had an option to just wipe SMS attachments, or better yet, back them up to iPhoto or something.

Also, apps now having to include 3X graphics assets for the iPhone 6 Plus (but installed on every device anyway) will make it even worse.

I always had 16Gb versions (apart form the original iphone :))

I don't store more than 150-200 songs and 100-150 photos, a few videos. I never had a problems with memory. But I have to note I hate having zillion apps installed because they all require frequent updates and for some reason I am annoyed by having to update something everyday. I install only apps I know I'll use. Like to keep it clean and neat.

For that reason I went with 16Gb Ip6. Sure I'll be fine (and haven't even used iCloud yet).

If you have unlimited 4G data?
Is there's a way to keep all your music on icloud and play it from there instead of the phone harddrive?

Not going to sift through the thread, so apologies if this has been mentioned already...

If all you use your phone storage for is music, that's superb. You won't need more storage at all. Keep in mind you likely will get throttled at some point (when I had unlimited AT&T I found that music through the cloud wasn't nearly as fluid as something through Pandora or even iRadio once I hit my throttle cap).

I personally have more in just apps that I keep on my phone than a 16GB phone can handle. Add a ton of pictures and video (most taken by the phone itself), maybe some movies, books, comics, and you quickly run out of space. Netflix is great, but not on mobile data if you are anywhere near hitting your throttle point. At least not in my opinion.

More is better, but i live with half of 16 gb very well and i'm happy with it.

I have a few songs, some pictures and videos, 2 games ( tiny tower and Vegas) and other 26 various apps. And free space is 3.3 gbs.

I like things simple and organized. Don't like having a ton of stuff i don't need. Even in my computer, stuff i dont use go to external drive or recycling.

But if you will use your iPhone as primary device, spend some extra money in storage. What is 100 or 200 in a expensive device like this? Yeah, right...

Even my wife, who is not a power user, requires more than 16GB. Streaming helps a lot, but we take a lot of photos/video and those are what takes up most of the space other than apps. I could not get by with 16GB even though I stream ALL my music.

People talk about 16gb like you actually get 16gb.

Try 13/14gb after 'system memory'.

Then back up your images and video to PC..

Yeah, we do, but we'd have to go through this every month or keep very few videos on the phone. It is nice to be able to go back in time easily and quickly. 16GB can be done but it is more work and seems not worth saving $100, at least to me.

16gb is fine if it really fits your usage. For me all my photos go to the cloud immediately, music is all via spotify, i use few apps, and only a couple of games. On my 16gb 5s which i have used since release day I still have 4gb available. As long as you know your usage then you buy the amount of storage thats fits you.

You can do with 16gb but it will be tough. All I bought prior to the 6 plus 64gb were 16gb iPhones with the exception of a 32gb 5s and I always find myself deleting photos, videos and apps to download new stuff. For $100, the 64gb is worth it BIG time. 16gb is just not fun.

I went with the 16gb 6+... I used to purchase the larger GB phones. However, I never would use the space and was always on unlimited. I just use iTunes Match and play my music through the cloud. Generally my space is taken up by photos and videos that I take over time. I have learned to just back up my photos and videos more often. Plus I would hate to lose my phone or it get damaged and I lose all my photos and videos.

So 16gb is plenty for how I use my phone. The cloud storage is just amazing to use and saves me money when purchasing the phone.

To each their own though as well all have different needs.

My wife has a 16GB iPhone 5, and she's ALWAYS running out of space. I know for sure when she upgrades to a 6S or the 7 (she doesn't care about upgrading that often), she'll be getting a lot more memory. 16GB is dead these days- apps are too huge post-retina.

I've been good with 16GB for the past year and a half, but I only have a modest amount of music and photos aboard.

I'm not sure 16GB is enough in the coming years, but a lot depends on cloud storage and affordability of unlimited data plans.

I have had a 16gb iPhone 4 since launch. I would say I am a 'power user' and I am doing fine. Never have more than 500mb free at any time though mind.

It's good to keep old event holiday snaps ok your phone but just think to yourself is it worth keeping on all of it, or just say a select few.

Also security. Imagine if you lost that phone! :(

Because he asked for opinions, and I gave mine. 16GB is terrible. Am I not entitled to my opinion?

Sure you are. It's not what you said but how you said it. I'm sure it's a case of lost in translation over the internet. And I'm sorry. I realise now you mean well. But it just came across to me as "I believe this and I am right". ActuallyI do agree with you. What you said will not apply to everyone but for some people it will.

Thanks again.

OP I have managed with two iPhone's with 16GB, really it's not that bad and I see myself as a power user, especially when it comes to games and apps... I weren't swapping things around often, but as it seems you listen to music a lot on your device (I don't) maybe if you can stretch to the 64GB, consider it.

I was planning to jump to the 32GB this time around, but of course Apple dropped the option from the iP6. So I resorted to the 64GB because I feel I'll utilise videos and games more on the new 6 with the bigger screen and power. Personally I think 64 is overkill for me, but as it's valued at the same amount I would have paid for the 32GB it works out I guess.

I always had gotten 16gig as I never thought spending $100 more was worth it for 32gigs. $100 for 64gigd seemed well worth it. Iphone 6 space grey 64 gigs coming tomorrow!

I'm a storage whore and I really use my iPhone a lot so I have always purchased my iPhone's with the max available storage.

iPhone 3G (2008)> 16GB
iPhone 3GS (2009)> 32GB
iPhone 4 (2010)> 32GB (was really annoyed they didn't have 64GB that year)
iPhone 4S (2011)>64GB
iPhone 5s (2013)>64GB
iPhone 6 Plus (2014)>128GB (coming tomorrow)

I like having a large music collection instantly available which accounts for around 32GB of storage. I have over 300 apps (do I use all of them all of the time? No, but they are there when I need them and I don't have to try and remember what they were called when I need them and have to search the App Store to download them when I need them). I shoot lots of photos and video (and at 1080p60 you can be sure those videos are going to be huge). I don't use iCloud to store my photos. I like playing games and some of those apps are 500MB to 1GB or more. Even the cache files that build up on some apps like the Google app (currently at 605MB) and Twitter (859MB). Not to mention the space that can get taken up by iMessage/SMS, and email. I make a number of voice memos, I download podcasts, sometimes when I travel I will have some videos on my device etc...

I mean, I can see 32GB in 2014 being fine for most people, but 16GB (especially when it is actually less than that) would seem to be a pain in the ass to manage. Plus, if you can afford to buy a 16GB iPhone 6, you honestly can't afford another $100 to get the 64GB model? Especially considering what people pay for the cell phone service? Why not just get a new or used 16GB iPhone 5s then?

The main reason Apple even has 16GB iPhone 6/6 Plus models is to upsell people on the 64GB model. Most people would think, heck why pay $199 for a 16GB when I can get 64GB for only $100 more. That's why Apple did that.

Anyway, to each their own. If you have used iPhones in the past then you know how much space you typically use. But for new smartphone buyers, I would really think about how you plan on using the phone. If you like taking lots of photos, shooting video, like playing games and using a number of different apps, do a lot of messaging and email, those things take up a lot of space and you will find yourself having to delete things and having to pick and choose what you want on the phone which will get annoying really quick.

Went with the 16 iP6. (Wife getting iP6+ w/ 64) The extra $100.00 will go to the next releasing Mac mini w/ 802.11ac

I just pludged iOS 8 yesterday and it took up 700 MB more space than iOS 7. 16GB is getting more restrictive as time goes by.
