you'd be surprised at how easily you can void the warranty with the water detector..be careful about bringing your phone into the bathroom while you shower..the steam can screw it up

the other day i was about to step into the sauna for a minute at my gym and i realized my phone was in my pocket so i avoided going in

What are you wearing in a sauna that has pockets ... ?

(laughs) that's what I was thinking. I do use my iPhone in the rain if it's not pouring out, held horizontal so water only goes on the screen if anywhere, and with the headphones so nothing can go in the jack. Served me well so far.

One of my local news stations ran story about these sensors last night and the lack of response from Apple in regards to them….

If they where using them at the Gym wouldn't there be headphones in the jack? When it is drizzling I always cover the headphone jack with a finger. Also during football season the lockers get really steamy from showers and my iPhone gets moisture on the top off the screen and it works fine. I would not intentionally bring it in the bathroom. If you do get a call in the shower are you going to answer it?

Yes. I've done it more than once. Have the iphone for over a year now. Never had any trouble with it.

No big deal to poke your head out of the shower door, slide the Answer slider and say "emergency? or can I get back to you?"...

And yes, I do deal in emergenices, this isn't me having to stay connected 24/7 ;)

Man, I'm shocked at the number of people who shower ( ) with their iphones in the bathroom.

I take BOOKS I want to keep 'fresh' out of the bathroom when I shower. I wouldn't dream of leaving my iPhone in there, on purpose, time after time.

They probably don't care about their phones so much. It it gets busted they just buy a new one...

Or in the case of yoavcs, needs to respond to emergencies. I, on the other hand, don't have an excuse for leaving my iPhone in the bathroom while taking a shower other than using the iPod. My situation is more a matter of choice than obligation, and I accept the consequences of setting off one of the water sensors. If you pay for something with your own money you have the right to use it how you please, as misguided as that may seem to some.

i have weeks when i'm "on call" 24/7, and i MUST answer all emergency phone calls. That means even when showering....so...I guess i'll have to worry about it now that i found out about it....
that sucks.....

I'm a Paramedic that sometimes works 24hrs a day for weeks on end depending on what the call volume is like and when I'm in the shower I have my department issued pager but never my iPhone. I used to bring my BB in but I just don't wanna risk it with my iPhone.

Doesn't your agency give you pagers?

i definitely am paranoid. because i end up re selling everything..

however if i do upgrade to the new iPhone (or a 3G anytime soon)... this one is goin' to my girlfriend (unless i get her a 3G first)

i hardley think about and i have my iphone out in the rain (in my rain gear) while im working so i guess you might say im not paranoid

I don't think I'm really worried about actual WATER DAMAGE but more about false activation of a sensor. I think the iPhone has been proven to fair pretty well with water accidents, but the sensors seem to activate for minimal reason.

My true concern is that something will go wrong with my phone that will be covered by my warranty and it'll be. Voided by a false water sensor activation.

I try to not use my iphone in the rain, mostly because of the headphone jack.

If there was a little plastic plug for it (that came in the box), I'd probably make a point to use it.

One bad drop right in there, and boom - no more replacements/support.

This would actually be really cool. Like plugs to seal up the phone completely. I'd spend a couple of bucks on that if it saved my phone from water damage.
(Btw, hi everyone, long time reader, first time poster :D )

Hey! Welcome, and maybe I'll invent that and get RICH!

I'm actually seriously considering doing something like this, as it seems like false positives are a huge problem for a lot of people.

Just hope :apple: doesn't shut me down for cutting their profits in half :p

It's NOT being paranoid

My iPhone flipped out one day. Constant rebooting.

It has never been in the wet. I don't stand in the pouring rain speaking on it. I don't keep it in the bathroom while I shower.

The "Genius" found that the sensor was red and that this caused the problem.

Here's a little clue for all you guys out there who think this isn't an issue.

The phone hadn't been out of the house for 6 days when this problem struck and the rebooting began. Explain to me how it got wet?

This Googles as a problem because it is a problem.

You must live in one of those liquid free houses!

Little plugs for the iphone (dock and headphone) for like $5 or $8 bucks or something like that would sell.

I'd probably buy a set of I saw them in the Apple store.

I slip into the bathroom while hubby is taking a shower to remove his phone if I sense it's in there for fear of excessive humidity turning that da*n thing red.

I think stories about false positives might be exaggerated a bit. I shower with my phone almost every day with no precautionary measures. It sits in a soap dish that I mounted to the wall specifically for this purpose. The phone gets covered with condensation and water droplets. I have a microfiber cloth that I use to clean it off when I'm done and it's good as new.

I've never had a problem and my sensor is still pearly white.

I was, just not paranoid enough I guess. I never had the iphone in the bathroom while I took a shower, never took it out in the rain, never spilled anything on/near it, etc... But my water sensor still turned red. I was told it was caused by the climate I live in. It gets cold here, so the condensation that can form on my phone after leaving my car in freezing temperatures and entering my warm home set it off. So... I was SOL with my iphone. They had already sent me a replacement too, so I was on the hook for another $400. Awesome! So, now I'm trying to sell the replacement phone and make my "broken" iphone (mute switch sheared off) work.
