The phone gets covered in condensation and lightly splashed. I follow up with a shot of iKlear and a microfiber cloth and the day's grime is gone. My sensor is still white.

There just must be a huge gap in sensor sensitivity If mine's not triggered after getting this wet several times a day. I've also had it in extreme cold, stifling humidity and light rain with no issues.

*IN* the ******* shower?!?!

Holy damn you're crazy.

Yeah, seriously, that's pretty stupid. I at least put mine as far away from the shower as I possibly can (provided the audio cable can reach that far).

I am paranoid about finals, I am paranoid about my future. But a sensor?
No it never crossed my mind far too many important things out there in the world to worry about a sensor going from white to pink or visa versa.

I've used my iPhone in the rain. Have gone camping and put in my backpack in all weather conditions, take it into the shower, etc. The sensor is still white. I think you really have to drop it into the tub to make it turn. But I won't test that theory...

Little plugs for the iphone (dock and headphone) for like $5 or $8 bucks or something like that would sell.

I'd probably buy a set of I saw them in the Apple store.

I don't mean to ruin your idea but they come with all Switcheasy cases. I use the ones that came with my Switcheasy Colors. It fits the case perfectly so there is no gap for water to get through.

I don't understand all these replys where people are saying they got false positives and ended up not getting service for their iphone...

You don't just roll over an take it! Bitch up a storm! Believe me, they'll help. Apple is a SERVICE ORIENTED company. That's the whole reason you pay the Apple tax!

I had this exact thing happen to my iphone (red sensor, unrelated software issue) and the lady helping me pointed it out at the Apple store. I told her I didn't get any water on it and I refuse to forfeit my warrantee based on something that she couldn't prove was my fault. For all I know, the sensor was red when it came out of the factory (manufacturing error). She didn't push the issue and just authorized a replacement.

Lets face it, there IS an Apple tax. But because of that, I expect service. I've purchased an old macbook, new macbook pro, iphone, time capsule, mac mini, and at least 6 ipods from my local Apple store. I've probably spent >$6000 there over the years, and it would be a cold day and hell before they refuse me service based on a tiny sticker. I have no reservations about telling them just that either.

However, so far, I've never even had to raise my voice with Apple store support. That's why I'm so confused by these reports of being turned away. In my experience, if you even start to sound annoyed, they do anything you want them to. They usually replace things no-questions-asked.

I'm actually seriously considering doing something like this, as it seems like false positives are a huge problem for a lot of people.

Just hope :apple: doesn't shut me down for cutting their profits in half :p

These plugs already exist on dealextreme, they are very handy. I got some to keep the dust out the headphone jack mainly. I'll post some pics of them on my phone if you want?

So I've never really taken a good thorough look at mine since I am confident I haven't done anything to activate them, but the other day I decided to take a thorough look and while my headphone jack sensor was pearly white ... My dock connector sensor was ..... Not there! I looked really hard and I can see where it's supposed to be, but it's not there. I've never actually looked for it until that day, I've always just glanced to make sure I saw no red. And before someone says "The Original iPhone doesn't have a dock sensor", just take a glance at what I'm working with in my signature.

two things

A) You live in southern California, why the hell are you paranoid, it never rains here and its never humid. Just avoid dropping it in water and you should be fine. Consider ourselves lucky that we never have to worry about the "weather"

B) the sensor is there its just hard to see. What you need to do is have your phone with the glass facing up. Look under the 20 pin connecter, you will see a small recess and In that small recess is the water sensor

It's small and really hard to look at, but with the right lighting you should be able to see if its red or white

A) Thank you Capt. Snarky. We also live in a very diverse climate where I can spend the morning boarding at Bear, then cruise down to sure and have a Bon-fire in Huntington. I'm not worried about actually setting the sensor of legitimately, I'm worried about getting a false positive because I leave it by the dishwasher and the steam sets it off.

B) I'm glad you know my phone better than me, or maybe ... Just maybe I'm familiar with my phone and have compared it to others to notice my dockside sensor is missing. I just ordered a new digital camera cause mine broke but when it comes I'll take a picture of my recessed area with no sensor in it.

C) Don't take my sarcasm personally.
