I use the slide over on my iPad Air quite a lot already. Examples are grabbing login info from 1Password to use in Safari, or opening my calendar to add a new appointment while in a meeting (without leaving the document I'm taking notes in). Looking forward to an update to OmniFocus to let me check and add to my task list via slide in. If that happens I will use it many times every day.

As for split screen, my first gen Air doesn't do that but I just got a mini 4 yesterday so have been experimenting. It's surprisingly usable on the small screen and I think will be great for having a reference document and a note taking app open at the same time. Or to have a work doc open next to Safari so I can surf when the meeting is boring.

If you don't use tablets for productivity/work purposes I suppose these features would have less value but I think they're great.

Edited to add: here's a non work example: just made my grocery shopping list by having the recipes I want to make open and sliding reminders in to type out the ingredients I need to buy. I think I'm going to use this a lot.

And are you doing this with a physical keyboard. Because if you were trying to take notes, the onscreen keyboard would obstruct the entire video. It just seems so impractical in practice.
Not ideal, but it gives me an option that I didn't have before. I like it.

This has been said before, but 1password and email are amazing with slide over. I haven't found split view to be useful yet, but that doesn't mean I won't at some point in the future.

I was sceptical in the mini 4 but it works quite well. There is not a particular reason one can say to convince anyone else, except that it is a feature that one will just get used to. One will expect to have after a while as more apps support and apple tweaks it. Makes the device feel much more open and less restrictive now.

It was extremely useful for me on the past Saturday. I needed to quickly update a spreadsheet with some points I saved in the notes app. I just dragged the screen from the right and opened the notes app there and copied the points to my Excel worksheet without quitting anything.

It makes sense for a "slide over" or "side-by-side" app to be some kind of notes app. I see that Apple's Notes, Mail, and things like Slack work in there... Where's Evernote? Are you joining this party?

I am finding it very useful to answer the main question. I use it when surfering safari and also useing twitter. Also, having messaging open on one side and Email on the other makes it super convient when I'm at work and get busy.

If they allow third party support for this and the pip it would be infinitely more useful.

Third parties are supported. It's just a matter of waiting for them to add support to their apps. Many already have, so it doesn't seem that the process of adding support is overly complicated.

I only have an Air so can only slide over, but it's great for when I'm surfing MacRumors and simultaneously texting my girlfriend :)

I haven't really used split view other than testing it but slide over is handy for my text messages.

Apple will get there. Samsung already provides that type of customization for their multiwindow capabilities.

There should absolutely be a search option for the split view/slide over and also become an option to hide certain apps. I think we all agree on that. It's a shame that Apple didn't include that in this 9.0 version.

I only have an air first gen so slide over and pip are the only things I can do. And to be honest they are not very useful especially slide over. Wish I could do split screen but will have to wait till I buy the pro

Slide Over and Pip are nice but i would love to have the option to lock it for e.g. e-mail, Twitter, chat app but for that you need split view unfortunately.

The more annoying issue right now is that apps I want to support it (Cabinet and Paper for example) don't support it yet.

It would indeed be nice if more and more apps will soon update their app to support all these Slide over/Split view/Pip features (and other iOS9 features such as Spotlight search with apps). A list of a lot of apps can be found in this wiki topic. Through that topic i found a YouTube alternative which already support these features hurrah and also another browser!

Split view is kinda pointless on a mini. Works well on the Air though

I would love to have split view on my iPad mini2 but unfortunately it only supports Slide over and Pip. I do want to own an iPad mini4 in the near future which has this great split view feature. I would love to lock my e-mail/Twitter/WhatsApp/Facetime/website on one side and show e.g. a game, video, website or Notes/Word/Google Doc on the other side. I use my mini now with slide over for e.g. e-mail, twitter feed and love it but it's unfortunately that you cannot lock it now.

I upgraded my fathers iPad Air 2 to iOS 9, just to see how these multitasking capabilities turn out to be. And I actually like it! I mean, at the time I tested it only the standard apps supported it, but it works incredibly well.

Getting myself an iPad mini 4 later this week, and soon I'll grab a Bluetooth keyboard as well. Really want to see how working with a physical keyboard is done with an iPad. :p

Email/calendar
Messages/calendar
Safari/messages
Email/messages

My main use has been to keep messages open when looking at holidays etc in safari.

Nobody memtioned anything about split screen tabbed browsing which is imo is the most useful feature, yet apparently it is not implemented. Complete oversight. It does not seem possible to have 2 safari app opened in split view either.

I'm actually finding Split View really useful, especially for work purposes. For instance, say I'm in Notes, and then I pull up a second window, and I open a page on Safari for reference. Then I need to make a calculation, so I switch to the calculator. Or I get an email and quickly check it. Or I decide I need a break and check my Twitter feed. All of that with Notex still open on the side. I find Slide Over pretty useful as well, but only for quick reference, like checking an email or searching for a certain detail on a webpage. And Picture in Picture is also good for me, because I watch TV series a lot, so it's good for multitasking in that manner.
Probably the best thing about iOS multitasking compared to TouchWiz or LG UX is native support. It really makes the world's difference.
I'm still waiting for certain apps like Facebook, Pages and YouTube to support these features though.

That's actually a good point. There are many occasions in which I've wanted to be in two tabs at the same time. I guess the only way I can do that now is to install a third party browser that has been updated alongside Safari.

How well are you managing finding the second app you want in the app scroller?

Anyway I'd love to hear if people are actually finding the multitasking in iOS 9 useful. So far I'm underwhelmed, but perhaps there's cool stuff I could be doing?
For me the biggest issue is the lack of mouse.

"iPad purists" will call that blasphemy but if the point of split screen and multiple simultaneous apps is to optimize a workflow then you're already twisting the "simplicity" origins of the iPad. So if these are now to be productivity machines then the more input the better. Keyboard, Pencil, Touch, Voice and Mouse. Having these OPTIONS will only improve he experience.

That said, even though these devices weren't made for split screen, I'm glad the option exists as I plan on (trying) to use it more. but I do feel there's a more intuitive solution beyond the one we see right now. Because what we have feels glued on rather than well planned.

This x100. Exact reason I will still be sticking with my rMBP for "productivity". There may be an iOS of the future that can replace my laptop, but iOS 9 ain't it.
