Have an iPad mini 3 and find it mostly useless. It's one of those things people whined about forever but now that it's here, it's not really useful without a mouse. In execution you quickly realize that true multitasking should be reserved for the Mac.

I'd imagine it be even more useless if they ever brought it to Iphones like some think they should.

Tonight, I had a group text convo going on for a bit while I was watching Hulu. Then used split screen to check out a link that was given to me while putting what I was watching on Hulu on PIP mode. It's a pretty useful feature when needed.

I use it all the time on my Air 2. Most convinient use is to be able to briefly make actions in other apps without having to quit the app you're using at the moment.

I find them useful for both Slack and Twitter. I can be reading an article while also watching over a discussion on slack, without having to switch apps. Basically short messaging apps are the best IMO.

My only complaint about it is the way you switch apps...if you have a lot of slide over compatible apps it is a lot of scrolling and searching...there should be some kind of "home screen" for the slide over panel where you can pin your favorite slide over apps.

I didn't knew that Slack also offered Slide Over / Split View. I added it to the list of supported apps.

I absolutely agree with you that Apple should come up with a different way in regards to (de)selecting Slide Over / Split View apps:

1) open the app that you have open in slide over/split view to change to main app (full screen)
2) search bar to search your favorite app (if it supports this feature)
3) deselect apps that you don't want to show in the list of apps that support Slide Over/Split view

Using an iPad mini 2, so no multitasking for me. I do use slide over for accessing my podcasts from overcast when I am in another app. Still don't use it all that much, but it's nice to have for when I need it.

Two browser instances would be useful but not yet supported on iOS.

You can if you use multiple browsers that support Slide Over / Split View such as Safari and also Chrome, Puffin Pro, TileBrowser, uSurf, WebProtectMe.
There are also a number of other browsers which can show two websites side by side which also works on older iPads (and iPhones in some cases) see also this topic i created recently.

Can you watch youtube on one side and use safari on the other?

Yes with 3rd party YouTube apps such as ProTube and YouPlayer which support this iOS9 feature you can do that.

I use split view quite a lot:

Photos/Calendar - after taking a photo of my work rota for the week, I add my hours to my calendar
Maps/Notes - planning a travel trip
Safari/Numbers - updating a finance spreadsheet while looking at bank details

And slide over:
Messages - quickly adding to a conversation
Podcasts - quickly changing what I'm listening to

Before the multitasking features, I'd use my iPhone as a second screen for each of my split view uses.

Fantastic feature.

Safari/Tweetbot
Word/PowerPoint
Excel/Notes

Some of my most used combinations. I use SplitView far more often than SlideOver.

Protube is great, recent convert.

I mostly watch locally stored video on my iPad versus streaming. It's disappointing that most video players are yet to support PIP, be it due to Apple restrictions or not.

Set both my Macs running a huge batch conversion* of tonnes of mkvs over the weekend, now compatible with the stock player. It's a pain using iTunes for video management, but it's really great being able to use the pip functionality properly. So smooth and really well implemented imo, on the Air 2 at least.

Toying with the idea of getting an iPad Pro, on which pip and split view will really come into its own.

*I use Subler for a simple, quick remux usually, but said files still weren't compatible with the stock player.

I'm also using a lot of locally stored videos and play them on my iPad however i have them stored on a NAS and use Infuse 3 Pro app with it. Unfortunately they do not yet support Slide over / Split View and Picture and Picture. Mainly because of the limitations to video files which Apple set see also this topic and the response from the developer.

local PiP apps: FileBrowser, FileBrowser Lite, nPlayer and Plex (only support Quick Time video files in PiP).
for a complete list check this wiki topic.

Yeah, I've used Infuse for ages and initially was critical of the devs for lack of pip until I read that support thread a while back. Blasted Apple restrictions.

Prior to Infuse I used AVPlayerHD for years until they dropped AC3 due to licensing. Felt very retro transcoding video files again - bah! - but fortunately quad core cpu's are soooo much faster at transcoding that computers of yore, so it wasn't too much of a chore doing the transcoding. I remember when it'd take 3 hours to transcode a single video file on a then fast PC/Mac, pita.

I'll go back to Infuse at the earliest opportunity if/when pip is supported. In the meantime I am really enjoying the ability, feels like the Air 2 is getting something of a workout.
