I don't think I've seen anyone just getting the regular 4.7 inch model. If you are, what are your reasons?

I am. Because I'd rather have a proven and reliable platform (fingerprint ID, traditional home button) for at least the next three years. I do not want facial recognition ever, I just don't. What works works well. Apple is trying to re-invent the wheel. Let them work out the kinks and then maybe I'll hop on board..

why not plus then?

Yes. And I have a perfectly good 7.

Reasons:

1. Upgrading costs very little if you use a case and sell your phone in perfect condition each year. Waiting 2 years between upgrades doesn't really save you that much money due to the decreased resale value 2 years later.

2. I have no desire to carry around the behemoth plus model. Way too big. I find the non-plus size perfect.

3. Band 66 support in the 8 (not in the 7). Verizon customer here and I could see this becoming valuable soon (hopefully).

4. While cool, I don't really need the X model. Not loving the Face ID, lack of a home button, etc. I'll wait until people have it and start posting opinions before jumping on that bandwagon. My gut feeling is that the X is going to be a buggy 10-month model and that it's successor will be available in September 2018. Perhaps I'll move to the X's successor at that time.

The plus is kind of ridiculously large IMO. I don't want to carry an iPad around in my pocket either.

I don't find the plus to be very pocketable (I've tried friends plus models) and I don't love the idea of needing to use 2 hands for EVERYTHING I do on the phone. Maybe I'd get used to it, but I don't see the point. The 4" iPhone 5 was a good size at the time. The 4.7" 6/7/8 is even better, although I wouldn't want it much bigger. I think the form-factor on these phones is just about the perfect blend of portability and screen size.

I am....I am playing "musical phones" for my kids as part of their birthdays (14 year old is getting my 7 and 9 year old is getting his 6)....I need a new phone prior which is early October. Also, I am leary of the facial recognition unlock. I end up sitting through a lot of meetings and "sneak check" my phone a lot....

How is $849 for a 4.7" phone "on a budge"? Yeah I can save $150 and get the 64GB model, but that's not enough storage for me. As they say on Shark Tank... and for that reason I'm out.
Dude, if that's too much for you then how about you trade something in to get some credit? Ip8 is the "budget" model of the 3 models.

And that's ridiculous. It's priced at what the plus model used to be.

Anyway, I'm probably going to either hold onto my 6s+, or "upgrade" to a 7. (Kind of getting tired of the plus size)

Seems like you're trying to justify carrying an iPad sized phone around. :)

Some people LIKE the smaller form factor. If I handed you an iPad and said this is your new phone, you'd probably say no way. Well, some of us feel the same way about the plus. To each his own.

Issue: too big? I ain't trying to justify anything. I'm saying if you want it, get it.

I think i am getting to the point where i'm getting tired of the size on my 7+. I might be getting the normal 8.

I most likely will. I too have ip7. On iup so the 8 will be exactly same price so almost no reason no too. Would be up grade in performance too. Can't really justify nearly $1500 for ipX. Guess I am drawing line in the sand. Also tired of Apple giving us what they want when they want and setting a price like that.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks Face ID is a horrible idea. You get pulled over and the officer can unlock your phone by just holding it up to your face. I can see this going wrong in so many ways and I’m not going to spend $1,000 on a phone like that. No flipping way.

I’m sticking with my 7+. The 8+ doesn’t really seem different to me other than the processor.

I am downsizing from a 6s+ to an 8, I'm tired of carrying around a giant phone. What I find interesting is a poll on 9to5 Mac, where they ask which of the newly announced products people were planning on buying. The iPhone 8+ and 8 were last with only 4.22% and 3.72% of over 42,000 votes.

looks like it's easier to order ip8 and plus then...just merely basing on that particular poll.

Size basically. Also, I'd need to play with FaceID before I give up TouchID. I would prefer the 8 if it had an upgraded panel with higher resolution. Yes, a Plus model looks sharper to me. I'd prefer an OLED panel, but that ain't happening.
