This couldn't be farther from the truth, and this is coming from a Plus owner. You get the smaller phone because you prefer the smaller size. Not everyone wants the massive phone that is the Plus.
Other than preference (including pricing), would there be another reason?

The iPhone X looks really nice. I will get this as it will be very handy working mobile, on the go, like a small tablet that can make phone calls. I'll be upgrading from the 6s+.

Because for me personally it is too big and heavy. While I can appreciate it when reading but it is still too large to carry around if you are not a woman with a purse and wish to put it in pants pockets IMHO.
Are features not important as much as your prefered size?

I'm getting an 8. Never liked the Plus, it's way too big for me (I have small hands). Excited to be upgrading from my 6S.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks Face ID is a horrible idea. You get pulled over and the officer can unlock your phone by just holding it up to your face. I can see this going wrong in so many ways and I’m not going to spend $1,000 on a phone like that. No flipping way.

I’m sticking with my 7+. The 8+ doesn’t really seem different to me other than the processor.
Just because Apple came out with Face ID doesn't mean the 4th Amendment ceases to exist.

No one is getting it except a few guys in Peoria, Illinois. Apple will sell exactly 7 of them, and 2 of those will get returned. Because Apple, despite being almost a trillion dollar company, had no idea no one on Macrumors (and thus the rest of the world) would be buying the 8. Just like no one bought the Apple TV or iPad Mini or Apple Watch.

Yeah the damn cops are always pulling me over and asking me to unlock my phone. I should have never moved to Orwell, Florida.

But let me get this right, touch ID opens up to the home screen immediately, but facial recognition still requires a swipe. 8 or 8 plus this side for me please.

Touch ID:

Laying your finger on the home button unlocks the phone, pressing the button takes you to the home screen.

Face ID:

Looking at the screen unlocks the phone, swiping up from the bottom takes you to the home screen.

The X and the 8 are both mass produced consumer grade electronics that will be sold at Wal Mart to Wal Mart shoppers. Anyone who can afford the 8 can afford the X.

TouchID is discrete and quick. I need that. The X is putting me off at least until I can try it in person. But it's not looking too good for apple to get an X in my pocket.

and because it's huge....and...? (fill in the blank)
There is no blank to fill in.

Huge phones are not desirable.

I'm getting the 8. not interested in the X. don't want to deal with the face ID, I get a feeling there's going to be problems with that. the sides of that phone are scratch magnets, and the black bar on top of the screen I know I'll never get used to.

I do think the side of the iPhones with the stainless steel will scratch on the X. If it's similar to how the 316 L stainless is on the Apple Watch, perhaps they can be buffed out. But I do think this will be something that will be more discussed later on.

I'l be ordering an 8 Plus tonight.

Fast TouchID
Save $250 (Includes AppleCare difference)
A11
Portrait Mode Lighting
Available unlocked at release (being on Verizon prepaid, this makes it super easy to get and use)
I'll have my phone for 2 months before most people get their X

I'll be getting the 256GB 8 - never wanted the plus due to the size.

I would have loved the iPhone X as it has the same form factor as the 6 but with more screen and better camera, however the lack of Touch ID is a deal breaker. I'll wait till next year when they integrate the Touch ID into the screen with Face ID together and they come up with a better solution for the notch. Also the lag issues with Face ID should have been worked out by then

Not for me it doesn't: with TouchID, I don't have to press the button to go to the home screen, I turned that off in settings.

it's just preference.

Right, it's just down to everyone's individual preference. Why do seem to have a need to convince others that they really want the plus? Some people don't want to have a small tablet for their phone and prefer to be able to use their phone with one hand. If I need a bigger screen I've got an 7.9" iPad, a 15" MBP and a 55" TV.

People say this a lot but if you have raise to wake, you can literally lift the phone with your finger or thumb on the home button and you’ll be taken straight to the home screen without needing to press anything.
